Breaking news: A hole has opened up beneath Optus Stadium and swallowed 22 AFL players.

In other news: The goal review system is farcical.

This is making me feel slightly better about Freos poor showing against Port last week. Port have been impressive in this second half.

Sydney Swans vs Port Adelaide Power: AFL live scores, blog, highlights

Really good attitude from Freo tonight. Put the Bombers under pressure all night and managed to kick a decent score too.

I must say, I love having Alex Pearce, Joel Hamling and Luke Ryan down back together. They are all really solid and can give us some backline stability for a number of years to come. Pair them with the running half-backs of Connor Blakeley and Nathan Wilson and the future looks good!

Midfield did it’s job well tonight by giving our forwards opportunities and helped our defenders with strong pressure.

Another positive performance from Taberner tonight too. He kicked well, scored goals and pinch-hit in the ruck. If he can string together performances like that each week he will be an asset to us.

Gold Coast ‘away’ next week. Need to back up this performance and not get complacent. GC are on the up and it could be a danger game if we don’t turn up.

Stadium was awesome too. Really enjoyed the atmosphere.

Go Freo!

Really entertaining game to watch. Crowd is enjoying it!

Great to be at the new stadium. A bit of the good and a bit of the bad from Freo in the first quarter.

Pretty poor effort to start the year. Was expecting better to be honest! Won’t be happy if that’s the kind of display they put on for the first home game at the new stadium!

His time really is up. I’m not sure what benefit we expect to derive from still playing him each week.

Gives us some hope for the second half. I just want to see positive play and a competitive effort. No blowouts allowed this year!

Don’t give up that easily Josh 🙁

The longer this game has gone on, the more dangerous Port looks. We aren’t stringing together much meaningful possession at the moment.

Need to lift Freo. Can’t let this blow out.

I might have to report some of those overly optimistic comments AD! 😉

In all seriousness though we did look good early but just couldn’t find a way to score. Great pressure and repeat entries ….just no reward for effort.

Time to reset and get ourselves focused for the second quarter. We just got a little sloppy as the quarter progressed.

His prescence down back is really a huge asset to us.

Fremantle Dockers vs West Coast Eagles: JLT Community Series AFL live scores, blog

Yes I’ve been in hibernation during the off season! Been very busy with other things so haven’t had time to get involved on the roar lately, unfortunately.

Good to hear that someone missed my presence while I’ve been gone! Ha! Us Dockers fans need to stick together on this website!

Encouraging signs today, albeit against a West Coast team doing their best impression of training cones.

Hopefully we can carry this pressure and ball movement into the real season.

Very impressed with this kid. Been very entertaining to watch!

Scorchers just keep getting the job done.

Five takes from Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Sixers

I wanted to jump through the TV and do it myself! Pretty pathetic from Wade.

They are in a strong position to take a lead now but imagine if they had referred those two LBW decisins. Could have made it a lot harder for Australia.

Cook finally makes a decent score in this series and then two of his partners get out LBW and he tells them to not refer it. I can’t believe Malan didn’t feel that one. It was very close to the pad but surely he would’ve felt it through the bat.

Great to see him enjoying himself today and showing his abilities. Hoping to see him back to his best in 2018.

Humidor gave that a real good crack!

Congratulations Winx. What a mighty horse she is.

I got my ticket to the 2013 GF via the NM Breakfast. The food was atrocious that morning unfortunately…

Are all teams flat-track bullies now?

I don’t think people are ignoring that fact. It obviously is contradictory but this is not a clear cut easy process to delve into.

Unfortunately for this case, the world is a place where we categorise everything to a degree – including humans and sport. So I think it was easiest for the AFL to just leave her where she is rather than kick her out.

Being transgender is something that has only really become widely spoken about in public in recent years. Whilst there are mixed gender sports all over the world, most elite sports are categorised into two separate ‘Men & Women’ divisions. This is because those boundaries, for a long time, have made clear logical sense. But now because transgender (and other) people are spoken about more widely it blurs the clear lines that we had before. We now have a ‘new’ category that we somehow need to fit into the old ones and it is turning into a bit of a square peg in a round hole situation because people aren’t quite sure where they should fit. It sucks but that is just how it is at the moment until we work our way through it a bit more and can come up with good ways of dealing with these types of scenarios.

A genuine question – considering the AFL haven’t let her into AFLW would you prefer that they kick her out of the Canberra comp? And where should she then play if she was kicked out? Does she have to go to local leagues to play in mens competitions?

I don’t think any of us have a truly complete answer for this topic and we need to move slowly on it rather than just letting everyone do everything because we feel we have to for society & equality. Everyone deserves a go but as there is with everything, there has to be boundaries and conditions put in place. If those boundaries and conditions are deemed to be no longer suitable then we can look to amend them to make way for change (like the SSM poll). A suitable answer to this whole thing will come about over time but it should not be rushed.

The AFL made the wrong decision on Hannah Mouncey

There is so much grey area with this. It is an incredibly complex topic that requires a lot of careful consideration before we let it happen.

I am concerned that people jump on the ‘This is discrimination’ band-wagon a little too quickly without considering the actual implications of the whole thing. If someone is different in any way and they aren’t allowed to do something that someone else is then people will get angry about it no matter what the facts are.

The question here is not ‘Should or should we not let her play because she was previously a man?’ – it is much deeper than that. Looking at it in that kind of short-sighted way makes it sound like the AFL is discriminating when they really aren’t.

The AFL were backed into a corner and they took everything into consideration and made a decision which makes sense. If they had assessed Hannah and her physical attributes and decided that she is not advantaged beyond normal physical and skill development then I’m happy for her to play. I’m going to trust the AFL on this one which isn’t something I normally would do! No matter what they do or say though, there will likely always be an argument with a somewhat valid point as to why they’ve done the wrong thing.

This is a difficult one.
