Agree with your comments about what won and lost them the game, but I feel the problem is with the wording of the rule. “Opinion, would” … it is too subjective. Did the unfair play directly affect the opportunity for a try? Yes. Penalty try. Simplify the rule and eliminate subjectivity.

Why have we stopped awarding penalty tries?

Rugby definitely have a better ruling on penalty tries IMO.

Sounds a win win situation so far for the Club … guess actions will speak louder than words though.

Newcastle Jets officially sold to Chinese company, unveil Lawrie McKinna as new CEO

Mahrez and Schmeichel are the only two players I think a “bigger” club would get a return on a sizeable transfer.

Vardy could be great for a mid-table team, especially one that counter attacks. However, in strong teams I think his influence would greatly diminish. Don’t see him getting a chance in Europe outside Leicester either.

I hope for Leicester’s sake a lot of the team can be retained, for I think they’ll struggle next year. Every team will be out to beat the Champions, and I think a mid-table finish would be a great achievement for them next season.

Are Leicester FC players worth buying?

Other options would be Chatswood, Hornsby or Epping/Ryde (three main areas outside Manly on the north side).

One NPL2 team (Northern Tigers) plays out of Hornsby (which is owned by the local association that covers from the harbour to the Hawkesbury)

Another NPL2 team (GHFA Spirit) plays out of Ryde area

And a third NPL2 team (Northbridge) plays out of Northbridge (near Wiloughby) – the local clubs play in the association that owns the Northern Tigers

What is the FFA’s vision for the A-League?

The FFA do put a little about their strategy for the A-League in the whole of football strategy, but it is very generic and broad. The Perth Glory CEO has been asking for the FFA to come up with a detailed strategic plan for the A-League this season, after he took over at Glory and complained that it was hard for Clubs to formulate a mid to long term strategy when the competition / governing body doesn’t have one.

What is the FFA’s vision for the A-League?

Norths rival in rugby were also Manly … so this shows the divide in northern Sydney. You may get a good rivalry with the Mariners if you put the stadium up Hornsby way. Or an oval in Chatswood / Epping could create rivalry with WSW (train network to Parramatta).

What is the FFA’s vision for the A-League?

I’d suggest Chatswood Oval or a new oval in Hornsby would be a better option. Would look for a 15,000 stadium max though. Lots of money on the North Shore … can they turn it into sponsorship and fan dollars though?

What is the FFA’s vision for the A-League?

Bob Jungels also impressed me. I thought he wouldn’t stand a chance on the mountain stages, but many a time better climbers relied on his steady pace to bring back those ahead of them.

Only 23 years too!!

Nibali and Chaves save the Giro

Lotto do have Gessink and Kelderman also who can climb and finish high on GC in grand tours. I think both of them are in the Tour de France team.

Nibali and Chaves save the Giro

Still my favourite grand tour to watch each year.

Nibali is a machine … such a great rider and deserved winner.

I wanted Chaves to hold on, but after Stage 19 I didn’t think he would have the legs on the final mountain stage to hold off Nibali. Chaves definitely has the edge over Nibali on the steep ascents, but the long high climbs suit Nibali to a tee. His power and team were too much for Chaves.

Be interesting to see how Chaves would fair with a stronger team around him. I know OGE are building towards that but really Nibali and Valverde had team mates with them nearly everyday (and had another team member in or near the top ten on GC). Scarponi who put in two days of tremendous workhorse performances still had better legs than Chaves on the last mountain stage … OGE can only dream of a domestique of that status (Nibali had Scarponi, Kangert and Fugslang).

Nibali and Chaves save the Giro

In sports such as football / soccer and rugby union a red card can also be handed out for repeated infringements (after a warning has been given). Generally in these sports though a foul is given away because it is harder to score from the resulting free kick than AFL … where the reward for winning a free kick is high (especially inside your own 50). I don’t think many AFL players repeatedly give away free kicks because of the “reward” … hence why you get more and more players playing for free kicks in the AFL.

In a high scoring game such as AFL you probably only really need a “sin bin” offence (similar to either 5-10 minutes off, or like ice hockey where the player can return before the allotted time if the opposition score a goal). I’d say you’d have numerous circumstances deserving of a “sin bin” (penalty box) each week in AFL.

Our game is too good for red cards

Will Rogic be around at Celtic next season or not??

If Rodgers wants to bring excitement to Glasgow, Rogic has to be a high priority for him then!

Brendan Rodgers promises to change Celtic's Champions League fortunes

Also in regards to Leckie the appearances and goals are a bit misleading, as this is the first season he has played in the Bundesliga. His team Inglostadt were a Bundesliga 2 team before this season. This season in the Bundesliga he played in 32 games and scored 3 goals (not really a great return from a winger .. although he did manage a few assists, and his stamina and speed were highly valued by commentators and critics throughout the season).

Aussies abroad: Where are all the Socceroos?

I think someone has simply used Wikipedia and the current squad list.

Brad Smith has been at Liverpool all this season, making appearances in FA Cup ties and the EPL. He even got on the score sheet in the FA Cup. He was on loan at Swindon last season (before going off contract with Liverpool and then was given another contract with Liverpool after trialing for Rosenborg I believe).

Also I think it is a bit silly in the write up of defenders to say how many goals they got. For example, not a very good review of Sainsbury (who started the season with PEC Zwolle in Netherlands before a January move to the CSL). It would be better to include comments about his performances in the CSL and ACL than how many goals he has scored.

Also in regards to Mat Ryan you shouldn’t rely solely on Wikipedia (at least not the summary box). He has made only 8 La Liga appearances, but made 7 appearances in the Copa del Ray and 6 appearances across the Champions League and Europa League this season for Valencia.

Aussies abroad: Where are all the Socceroos?

Yeah definitely think this will be a great learning exercise for him … can he pick up on who to follow near the pointy end of a sprint?? I hope so … would love to see him get up for at least one stage win this Giro!

Giro sprints a harsh reality for Caleb Ewan

I don’t buy the whole Big Sam argument. Look at the difference a decent manager at West Ham has made this season. Big Sam is at best a Championship level manager … or for a club that wants to engage in a relegation battle (but not actually progress beyond that).

Sunderland owe Defoe and Allardyce a debt of eternal thanks

Actually Inman is in the fourth tier (League Two). Luongo was named as Asian Cup player of the tournament whilst at a third tier team (League One).

Socceroos make nine changes for match against England

I dare say given the footage the player will serve a long suspension not just for the tackling but also his reaction afterwards. You could see his team mate near him put his hands straight to his head when he committed the foul … he knew it was stupid and going to be a red card!

Can’t really argue with any those predictions. The Swiss may cause some trouble come the knock-out stages.

Previewing Euro 2016 Group A

Agree Midfielder … I was playing junior soccer in the KDSA at the time that the Northern Spirit came into existence. They really engaged the grass root players (giving out free season passes to juniors helped too). It was all about building a club that identified with the local community (hence for the popularity of the Wanderers too).

Living in WA now the Glory don’t really do a great job of this … it is getting better, and media coverage is improving again (but no where near what they had during their “Glory” days). I believe the A-League’s main objective in their strategic plan is to connect better with those playing the game at a local level … how they do this is what hasn’t really been sold.

Personally I think nowadays with social media this is there greatest avenue. Thousands of kids check out YouTube for “how to videos” … I do frequently for coaching matters too. I have never been directed to any “how to” video by the FFA, or an A-League club. The FFA could show all their curriculum drills on YouTube, or even better run a competition on YouTube. Send in your Club’s best example of running a drill from their curriculum and win something. This way you get lots of clubs engaged, lots posting videos on YouTube (with a reference to the FFA and it’s curriculum) and also chance to announce a winner (and promote that video too). Maybe the prize is the club gets $X dollars or equipment or a training workshop by FFA coach / Socceroo AND also gets the prestige of being the official video for that drill on the FFA’s site.

It’s a cheap, simple and engaging way to get those at the grassroots involved. Also a way to keep interest going over the A-League’s off season, but the grassroots season.

Time for the FFA to turn potential into results

That’s a strong Astana team … I wouldn’t be surprised to see at least two of them finish in the Top 10. Who is Movistar’s team leader?? Nibali I feel is too strong for Uran, the only other real GC contender mentioned in this post. I’d imagine Tinxoff might have a GC contender too. Pozzovivo will be up there (maybe Peraud) but given the strength of Astana I feel they’ll struggle to actually break the through for an actual GC win.

I watched Nibali’s ride in 2013 … he absolutely monstered the field that year, it was amazing to watch (I was a little disappointed he didn’t take on the Tour that year, he may have been tired but his form was irresistible).

Giro d'Italia teams preview (Part 1)

Not sure if there is enough support for Chavez in the hills … although he may be able to piggy back off other teams in those scenarios (fly under the radar then attack near the end … AG2R generally do similar, although tend to have a one two punch for the mountains).

Similarly I’d imagine Ewan may have to piggy back on the end of other sprint trains for certain stages (if they’re trying to protect Chavez). Be great to see the little man go up against some of literally the biggest sprinters (Griepel and Kittel).

2016 Giro d'Italia preview series: Caleb Ewan leads the Aussie charge

Has Milford let the Samoan rugby league board know that he no longer wants to play for them? I would have thought the onus would be on the players to let an association know that they no longer want to represent them, than the other way around.

Bennett proves rugby league is not ready to join the international family of real sports

It would have to be one man short. Basketball only starts with 5 players on the court, so one less is 20% of the players. Most other sports with a send off offense have at least twice that many players on the field (AFL three times).

Ice hockey rules could be applied where a player goes off the ice for a period of time or until the other team scores a goal (considering goals are more frequent in AFL it might have to be X goals or X time … this would be for sin bin offenses). For send offs could have something similar, but that player can’t return but the team can go back to full numbers after X goals or X time.

The AFL must adopt a send-off rule
