The West Australian is owned by Kerry Stokes’ 7west media… Kerry Stokes also funded alleged war criminal BRS defamation case against abc etc, paid alleged serial r.a.p.i.s.t Bruce Lehrman for multiple interviews, is the likely secret donor that paid $1m into a blind trust to alleged rapist and disgraced Liberal politician Christan Porter… and Stokes is promoting Basil Zempilas in all WA 7west media outlets as a potential WA Lib leader (ie as future WA premier). It really is a terrible ‘newspaper’.

Cost would be a factor… all the equipment and clothing is expensive. Heat… standing around in the heat of the day for hours on end in hot remote (or suburban) locations would not be enticing. Cricket clubs might not be viewed as inclusive as their football counterparts… more celebration and success on field by indigenous players would help improve this.

Sooo… no one is allowed draw attention to a genocide, or make the most basic of humane statements – ‘all lives are equal’, because you think it is divisive and it makes you feel uncomfortable? Btw, i have yet to hear cricket commentators mentioning the horrendous loss of civilian life during the live game broadcasts so not sure how it interupts your enjoyment of the game… are you perhaps confusing external coverage of Khawaja’s actions as in-play commentary?

Basil is a prat. Jan-Mar is hottest part of year in Perth, but, we occasionally get heatwaves in December. ‘bugger the east coast’ is simple dog whistling and minority bashing… Basil is also Kerry Stokes new WA Liberal leader in waiting.
The lead up to Christmas is busy everywhere in the country, this is not some local uniqueness. If the test is during the holidays, you get more attendees than during lead up to Christmas… at any of the traditional test venues.

Also, and it is debatable how impactful atm, the allure of whole days in the heat of summer, is not that appealing. Global warming is proving to be dry and hot, or flooding type wet and hot, depending on where you are. Do people like spending hours on end in hot stadiums? Or, attending a 5 day game that is washed out?
People took to pyjama cricket (50 over), and people now flock to the palatable T20 shorter form of the game which mostly occurs in later afternoon or evening.

It’s a really odd bedfellow for the BCCI, given Saudi is a muslim country and India, who supports Israel’s current ‘activities’, has fostered antimuslim sentiment against it’s own citizens under Modi. This does look a little like mutual sports washing tbh.

“Supporting Israel” would be a political statement. ‘All lives matter’ is not politically aligned, the fact it is being labeled as such is the elephant in the room that sees anyone who utters it as being called anti-Semxxxx. Since when, as an Australian community, did we allow ourselves to be labeled with this slur because we voice opposition to the ongoing slaughter of children and civillians? It is utterly disgusting.

It’s only a breach if the ICC don’t approve the mesg… a mesg which has no political or religious reference. The ICC, which may be under some duress of influence by by Modi (who is anti muslim) and the BCCI, are in the unenviable position of possibly condemning the most benign of messages because it is by a muslim person.

It looks, to me, as a good move by WCE. I wouldn’t mind having Daisy as coach at Freo women’s team… and i am curious if she was approached by any other teams.

I think it is every ICC run event. Inbound and outbound tours, eg ashes or tour of india, are sanctioned by icc but not run, so broadcast rights are determined by CA. So just the icc test final… that’s how i understand it.

Totally agree. I only subscribe on an adhoc short term basis to streaming services… and i loathe the double up fees required to watch sr rugby : stan + stan sport.

It’s just constant content for contents sake it feels at time. Funnily enough, i think paywalling some of the content helps separate footy season and cricket season. So long as the ashes series in England are still on fta for WA primetime viewing during winter i probably won’t mind forking out for streaming the 50over WC.

Perth has a long history with it’s grass roots comp, and a large expat community from rugby playing nations… rugby has a long established footprint in WA that some on the eastern seaboard just don’t realise, or acknowledge. Melbourne seems to have an almost monocultural sporting env, and the Rebels just never had the same grass roots support as the Force. Having Twiggy as a benefactor has also helped, specifically with maintaing a Force presence during the exiled years and seeing their re-introduction into the sr comp.
