I understand FTAs not bidding for unfriendly timezone content.
Some Wallabies tests are on fta, eg bledisloes and the 4 nations tournament, but no northern tour matches… inbound tours usu/also on fta. There is close to no SR rugby on fta… 1 random game a week is poor when comparing to other football codes. But, it has improved from absolutely nothing on fta. One of the problems for rugby, is timezones… and putting sr rugby exclusively behind a paywall was hardly going to grow the code outside of the private school network. Killing the Force, i was a member for several years, really put me off tbh. Many problems with rugby indeed.

Prime time paywall: TV rights for Australian cricket's trophy defences go to new player in broadcast market

What does CA say about this arrangement by ICC? Surely, they can’t be happy with the national team buried behind a paywall for such high profile events?
The article suggests that the next actual one-day (50 over) world cup tournament will be exclusively streamed on Amazon Prime, including Aus games, with no fta broadcast… is this correct? Look at rugby’s profile in Aus, that serves as a constant reminder to never lose your fta presence… the BBL and touring series to continue flying the fta flag i expect.
Does the anti-siphoning list not cover the icc world cup events?

Prime time paywall: TV rights for Australian cricket's trophy defences go to new player in broadcast market

A Sydney farewell test match in January seems assured, as is rain. Which is likely to… … dampen proceedings.

Teflon Bailey: Johnson right about selectors being too close to players but Warner won’t be denied fairytale farewell

Never liked that Peter Sutton character 👎

😂

Teflon Bailey: Johnson right about selectors being too close to players but Warner won’t be denied fairytale farewell

Is it “remarkably bitter” though? Seems standard clickbait opinion piece fare for 7west/newscorp/9news. Looks like an awful lot of the piece was replicated in this article… for same purpose?
Still, at least it wasn’t deemed “hilarious” in the article heading, which appears to the most misused word by roar editors.

'Bunnings would sell out of sandpaper': Bailey reacts after Johnson delivers brutal sledge over 'arrogant' Warner's farewell

The Roar editors abusing the definition of ‘hilarious’ again.

'It hurts': Smith out for revenge at Australian Open after PGA shocker, delivers hilarious Richie McCaw sledge

It’s either the beers or the golf carts, you can’t get on both of them 😛

'India still best 50 overs team in the world': Former star blames 'sandpaper pitch' and toss of the coin for World Cup loss

Well done.
I wonder if there will be (m)any bites.

ICC announces World Cup final to be 'best of three' following India's loss, BCCI complaint

Given the amount of babies and children being k.i.l.l.e.d and maimed daily by Israel, and funded by the US, this might be the last Palestinian team able to attempt qualification for the world cup.

'It's horrific': Socceroos braced for emotional WCQ - is it 'bonkers' that we have to play Palestine right now?

That’s correct. And i have specifically talked about the IOC, who has previously penalised Russia for cheating, and am questioning whether the IOC has the moral fibre to penalise over state orchestrated mass murder and genocide.

'It's horrific': Socceroos braced for emotional WCQ - is it 'bonkers' that we have to play Palestine right now?

Both siding, “balance” – yep, we have all heard of these. Very popular with the alternative facts brigade.

'It's horrific': Socceroos braced for emotional WCQ - is it 'bonkers' that we have to play Palestine right now?

I feel for the Socceroos, and good on them for acknowledging the terrible situation.
This got me thinking – the 2024 summer Olympics is not far away. Will the IOC ban Russia and/or Israel?
I would expect large portions of stadium crowds, if not the entire crowds, booing these nations from the opening ceremony and through all events.
If the UN condemns the actions of Russia and Israel, why does the IOC implicitly condone their atrocities by allowing their participation?

'It's horrific': Socceroos braced for emotional WCQ - is it 'bonkers' that we have to play Palestine right now?

Hey Tim, are you going to add Vic teams to the Winners section for getting Home Ground Advantage for the Grand Final? Or are you just ignoring privilege?

2024 AFL fixture winners and losers: Cats' great run, a primetime Showdown at last, and is Sunday night... ... back?

I like that the AFL has seen this opportunity and gone for it. The evening slot is ideal for this time of year.
Unfortunately, we will see WA teams play on Sunday afternoon (3-4pm) in March and April in stifling heat. And will Collingwood and Carlton be travelling west to play in this heat?
It’s time for Thurs-Sat night games for WA teams in the first 4/5 rounds regardless of timezone difference. Player safety and crowd comfort needs to be considered in this forecasted long hot and dry summer-autumn period.

AFL reveals new concept to kickstart 2024 season, with focus on NSW and Queensland

I am sure the AFL will reward all high finishing clubs equally with primetime fta slots in the other rounds 😂
Carlton is hosting Freo at Adelaide Oval… so we might not even get a game at the mcg next season.

AFL Gather Round fixture revealed: Crows, Port blockbusters to start weekend, Ginnivan faces former teammates

Remember the days when fascist govts, apartheid and genocide where condemned by sporting bodies and the media? Sad times indeed.
And today is Remembrance/Armistice Day. Lest we forget.

Sri Lanka Cricket set to appeal ICC suspension for 'serious breach' after entire cricket board sacked

Agree about the difference in game day use and recreational use and to be treated accordingly. But, geez, i can understand coaches wanting a player to wear a dunce’s hat for a little while.

'You've got to set the tone': Malthouse calls for 'really harsh' ban for positive drugs test

Good to hear Marsh will return.
Now we just need Maxwell and co to ease up on playing silly buggers for the next couple of weeks.

'I'll be back to win this World Cup': Marsh makes pledge to teammates after returning home

You give NRL too much credit, Rugby Union is quite capable of destroying itself 😛

A code war to the death: Why must one national sports global expansion come at the expense of another?

You know the drill i expect… never stop trying to stop. I ‘stopped’ many times – month here, 6 months there. Fall over, get up again.
I wasn’t a daily smoker, but nicotine addiction doesn’t differentiate between ‘social’ and ‘fulltime’ smokers.
11 years now, absolutely no compulsion ever to smoke.

Demon facing four-year ban after positive drug test during season as Carlton recruit faces court over illicit substance

The ‘bombshell’ was Schultz seeking a trade to Collingwood, and as soon as that was reported it was noted in the same breath that Ginnivan likely on way out. It is genuinely the opposite of a ‘bombshell’ – it was expected.

'Jack's decision': Pies deny forcing Ginnivan out as goalsneak heads to Hawks

As others have mentioned, the AFL public would benefit from rotating the GF out to other cities every second year. The guaranteed home ground advantage and the magnitude in cost difference for travelling fans will continue to taint the GF.
Also, i think rising temperature could be the next card to play in the quest to push back the timeslot.

AFL Grand Final day is much more than just the game - why change something so important to our sporting culture?

It is disappointing Australia’s involvement in the RWC is over. And while rugby reporting is now solely on Eddie going to Japan, i am more concerned by rumours that Eddie Jones is also the coach of the Australian cricket team… who are equally rubbish in their WC atm.

Eddie digs in as he flies home - AGAIN denying he wants to quit to coach Japan, while revealing next step

Twiggy has already had a taste of running/funding a rugby franchise and ‘tournament’ in the form of Western Force and the GRR – Global Rapid Rugby. This was definitely a passion project, and also an education. He maybe emboldened, but, more likely, would be wary of what actual value/fulfilment would be derived. Also, with FMG’s massive project investments in green energy etc, i would imagine there would be pushback from investors of having his focus distracted elsewhere. I think Twiggy’s interest will be limited to Western Force only. And not that Twiggy would, but, do you want to risk a Space Karen scenario if he took over RA?

Time for revolution: A hostile takeover of Australian rugby, led by Twiggy, is the only thing that will save it

In 2013 Hawthorn hosted Freo in Tassie during the regular season, then hosted Freo at their home ground (mcg) for the grand final… Freo only played 2 regular season games at the mcg, and their QF against Cats was in Geelong. This was when Ross started using the phrase ‘anywhere, anytime’… similar to ‘anyone, anywhere’.

After years of blowouts and shockers, do we finally have an AFL Grand Final worth watching?
