I don’t want to hate on Ferrer or what you’ve written – because I really enjoyed reading your piece – but

“He also had a fantastic 2012, winning seven titles and reaching at least the quarters in every Slam. He also won the Golden Swing in Latin America and won more matches than any other player in 2012 (50 in all).”

He arguably only got his Masters win because Janowicz decided to destroy everything he touched in Paris, and the Latin Swing is arguably the lowest standard leg of the ATP Tour you can play on throughout the season – not taking anything away from him though. I’d like to see how he’d handle the European leg with the higher ranked players.

You have to compare how that looks to the top 4, or 3 as it stands minus Nadal. Though one thing I’ve always admired about Ferrer is he’s one of those few Spaniards who I believe plays consistent levels on tennis on hardcourt and clay. And that can’t be said for many of them.

David Ferrer - one to watch out for

I was on the west side and can vouch for everything you said occurring around me as well.

No-one enjoyed it.

Western Sydney Wanderers have got A-League's best support

I was at the match yesterday and you guys must be dreaming to think you brought that much. I give you 2,000 MAX.

Western Sydney Wanderers have got A-League's best support

I was in the Western stand yesterday and last time I checked, everyone was booing you all for ruining all the good work you’d done in the match up until that point. You guys are an enthusiastic bunch, but we don’t want stupid behaviour like that tarnishing the club.

Couldn’t agree more. Both players have great defensive baseline qualities. I’d say Andy Murray has removed a lot of that “wait for the bad ball” play from his game and his taken control of points far more often, likely thanks to work by Lendl. It now makes him even closer to Djokovic’s game as you point out.

It certainly makes it a very different kind of rivalry. Federer’s pure strokes and Nadal’s whipped shots meant that two opposing styles were doing battle in that tussle. But this one is about who will make the less errors as opposed to winners, simply because their games have such good counter-punch qualities. But that’s just my opinion. Always an exciting matchup these days.

Djokovic vs Murray: the new rivalry in men's tennis

Fair point, but I stand by what I said. Great win for Tomic, and one bout of good relations with the media doesn’t make up for his pitful behaviour to this point. Consistency is the key for well beyond January and for the rest of his career – both in hiss game and handling the media.

Bernard Tomic: punk to prince?

It’s the Hopman Cup. That means ZERO ranking points being put at risk.

I’d like to see Tomic repeat this against Djokovic when the Serb has all his endorsements, more prizemoney and his ranking on the line.

Can’t believe SA lost that doubles game…

Youth versus experience at 2013 Hopman Cup

I’m really surprised you haven’t mentioned South Africa. They have Kevin Anderson and Chanelle Scheepers. Anderson’s height and serve as well as Scheepers’ vast doubles experience is a massive plus for when they link up.

I’m actually backing them to beat the Spanish pairing who, I believe, are one of the weakest the country has brought forward to this competition for some time. 2nd in the group, and the dark horse of the competition.

And I don’t want to sound down, but once again I don’t see the Aussies getting out of the pool stage.

Youth versus experience at 2013 Hopman Cup

Yeah Galekovic hasn’t had his greatest game either. Some shots that could’ve been blocked as well as a goal kick that went straight to an opponent to set up an easy finish.

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Adelaide United: A-League live scores

You realise this club is effectively half a year old. Mind comparing crowds from the Gold Coast or North Queensland at this stage in the clubs’ existence?

Give it time. This club will thrive!

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Adelaide United: A-League live scores

Because of work, I rarely get the chance to go to any matches but when the Wanderers finally played their first Sunday home game, against the Roar, I had to watch them live.

I wasn’t disappointed. And getting the 1-0 win was just a bonus. I’m glad to have taken this team on board, and you couldn’t be more right about the fans. Popovic has crafted a team where each player knows their place and the cohesion is there to see. I hope some long term signings are made to keep the bulk of them together.

It’s insane how the cutoff has risen so much – and it’s fantastic for the race in my opinion.

Also, picking Americain to finish ahead of Dunaden. All that horse gets is poor runs, and he’s overdue for a good line into the final turn. The extra 1kg may actually help make the switch happen.

59kg: The weight of history to stop Dunaden winning the Melbourne Cup

Really enjoying it thus far.

Getting the most out of the Bathurst 1000

HD set top boxes are the standard these days, and only continue to get cheaper.

And I don’t see why split telecasts can’t occur. Give us the HD option on Mate, while also showing the SD broadcast on the main channel. Same advertising on both channels.

AFL Grand Final: Channel Seven coverage a disgrace

You obviously didn’t watch the NRL Grand Final.

Cross-promotion in the middle of the match?

The AFL got Marina Prior to do the anthem (phenomenal), while the NRL and Ch9 decided it would be a great idea to use someone from The Voice to sing it as yet again another form of cross-promotion.

In comparison, Ch7’s coverage was exceptional.

AFL Grand Final: Channel Seven coverage a disgrace

Thank you.

The fact that these stations persist in keeping these big games in standard definition is beyond belief. Government, no joke, should actually step in and force them to show them in HD.

Pit strategy can be critical, and many teams can get caught in very unlucky situations when a yellow flag comes out.

It could be argued that Craig Lowndes was robbed last year simply due to his team’s decision to put him into the pits the same time as Jamie Whincup, his teammate.

And on point 3, this is something that can’t be stressed enough. It would be easy to look at the money involved compared to other championships around the world and dismiss the V8’s as inferior, but the front runners and their drivers in particular (Triple 888, FPR, SBR) are full of class.

Pretty darn obvious he did it.

Handled as best as possible by the refs. Hope he enjoys his time on the sidelines

I heard rumours that Bernie is considering scrapping the new engine regulations.

I guess I’d like to see that happen just to see Lewis’ face.

Lewis Hamilton follows the money to Mercedes

Exactly. Game one attendance will be the first key figure. Then about game 15 or thereabouts.

The Golden Goosestep Awards 2012

You say winning a gold medal is not going to change the way we live…

I’d certainly like to see if participation numbers at both a junior and senior level increase in sailing, athletics and cycling after these Olympics. You think of all the viewers watching these Games, and many of them wanting to take up something they’ve watched (particularly the younger ones). Gold can actually make social change if it is publicised enough.

This sense of entitlement has only come from overachieving ever since around Atlanta in 1996 through to 2008. It’s hard to blame the public for expecting something that’s happened over and over again. Look for a more subdued approach from the media in the lead up to Rio.

Australians are greedy for Olympic gold

You know better than anymore my love for AJ, and part of that is because of the potential she has to create a similar stir that Caviar did if these results continue. And also her ability to run into that mile-and-a-half zone makes her a completely different machine to Moody’s mare and a different show for the crowd.

We are spoiled.
