I always thought Tatafu Polota – Nau would have made the ideal fullback. Terrible coaching to play him out of position all those years.

JOC stays on ice as Wallabies team named for second Springbok showdown

Don’t mention that name again on here. I’ve only just come through after years of counselling!

He took some uncontested kicks later on but I counted at least 3 dropped kicks in the first half.

Banks needs to have spent the entire week practising under the high ball. He was pretty awful and given that it seems to be SA’s go to tactic he can’t afford to have another off day. Otherwise nothing much to complain about which is awkward.

Great read Nick. After so many years being told that “the flatter a 10 plays the more talented he is ,” it is illuminating to see that variation is just as important. Quade’s instinctive play has been both a blessing and a curse but on Sunday he got it just right.

Rugby Championship turnaround: What a difference a Quade makes

Thanks for this. I enjoy reading differing opinions, although only when we win. For my part I was horrified when QC was selected but too gutless to admit it on here. I was very happy to be proved wrong.

'A grovelling apology from me': World reaction to Quade brilliance and 'one dimensional' Boks

A point on Hooper’s captaincy. Both scrum penalties before half and full time came after he pulled his pack together and gave them a vigorous exhortation. He took the 3 points when offered, dealt well with the referee and backed Cooper when it counted and led by examplearoundthe park. A fitting captain’s knock to celebrate his milestone.

The Wrap: Quade Cooper finds the sweet spot to bring the Wallabies home

Well I wouldn’t take a 20.5 point start and yet they are only offering 10.5. As an Australian it feels nothing short of treasonous to back against Australia but if I was South African I’d be putting my house on it.

Quade Cooper versus the Boks: What could possibly go wrong?

I agree. Rennie is picking more out of hope than form or confidence. Hooper (deservedly)seems to be the only player that he trusts to start and finish. No player has taken their opportunity which must be very disheartening as a coach. You keep going back to the drawing board only to be faced with the same problems week after week.

Why the Wallabies are losing the power plays against New Zealand

I’m guessing he felt alot more confident of doing it during a 6 week Lion’s tour of SA. Had he done it on a 6 week Grand Slam tour of GB he might have found that public opinion was against him and his plan could have backfired spectacularly.

Why the All Blacks and Wallabies will be thrilled to avoid South Africa in 2021

Dreadful ride. 15 lengths last after 30 metres

Sydney racing selections: Randwick tips for Saturday, August 21

Enduring night in in the 3rd. Backed on Thursday at 16s and now into 8s. Somebody knows something!

Battleground was $3.20 fixed and $2.10 on the tote. Somebody knew something! Tipped mates into your tip but alas it was too late for me!

I met him and Jason Gillespie in a fancy bar in London after play at Lords had been rained out for the entire day It was my birthday and they bought me drinks all night and signed my unused ticket with personalised messages. He’s obviously got a Jekyll and Hyde thing going but I remember his generosity with great fondness.

BRETT GEEVES: 'The day I truly believed Justin Langer was going to kill me'

I can’t help but think that this is a result of the scar tissue that builds up after 19 years of losing. Normally when the bounce of the ball goes against you it’s a case of rolling your sleeves up and having another crack. In a losing team it’s more of a case of thinking, ” dear God no, it’s happening again!” I know that’s how I felt watching on television on Saturday night.

The Wrap: Something is rotten in Australian rugby and it’s not the Wallabies

Still not convinced that there will be that many players overseas that we actually want. The top Wallabies will still get paid ok with top ups and endorsements and the knowledge that they have a golden egg waiting for them in the twilight of their career. Their value increases the more tests they play for The Wallabies. Most, though not all, players have left after they think that their Wallaby chances have diminished not before.

Goodbye Giteau Law? RA set to scrap controversial rule

Excellent post.

NZ VIEW: 'All Blacks' best performance since World Cup,' Wallabies not 'top of the tree opposition'

I was screaming at the TV to take the scrum instead of a lineout. The only time in 20 years we’ve had a hint of dominance up front and we went to our lineout.

MATCH REPORT: Rennie's Wallabies sent out to go big or die trying - it was the latter

Very comforting article Brett. What’s concerning is that I’m sure someone is doing this type of analysis in New Zealand.
” if the ABs can just fix the other 55 minutes we’ll be sweet!”

Analysis: The 25 minutes when Bledisloe 1 got away from the Wallabies

Nice synopsis. On the subject of kicking . Didn’t Rennie forecast a barrage of bombs for the ABs to diffuse? I can’t remember seeing anything in the least bit threatening in the air.

The Wrap: Fast-finishing Wallabies earn respect but Bledisloe Cup remains elusive

Bookies have the Wallabies with a 23.5 point start which feels about right. Sadly.

Foster vows All Blacks fans will see a 'significant shift forward' as they defend incredible Eden Park record

That team looks terrifying. Still, we should be able to handle them comfortably now we are playing our B team.

Bledisloe teams named: Petaia returns, no Quade for Wallabies. Mo'unga given No.10 jersey, McKenzie stays at 15

I don’t know…I’m finding it pretty hard not to have a drink right now.

UPDATED: Rennie on Wallabies' reaction as trio, including Marika Koroibete, stood down for drinking

So. They were reported by a senior player. I would have ideally preferred that he asked them to turn themselves in but I like that the team is trying to set themselves standards before such a big test.

UPDATED: Rennie on Wallabies' reaction as trio, including Marika Koroibete, stood down for drinking

I wondered of maybe the theme was ” let’s go easy on the red and yellow cards as they only infuriate the fans”. Better to have more cards than 30 penalties in hindsight methinks.
