I know like to poke fan at the Dragons fans for being chokers. But if the Rooster lose, that will be 5 GF loses in their past 7 visits and only being able to convert 1 minor premiership from their 5 in the NRL era. Could they be classed as “the choker club”?

I agree with your comment that the NRL grand final being play at twilight/night is a tragedy. The first few night GF was exciting and new but a number of things became apparent.
The quality of play is now worse as their is more dew on the ball at night time compared to the afternoon. A lot of kids ( the games future) are too tired to watch the big game as it doesn’t finish until later then their bed time. The day just drags on, some say it builds anticipation and excitement but seriously, by 5pm most people are over the wait.
I may not be the biggest AFL fan but I implore all fans of the big day in either code to push for day GF. Once it’s gone, there is too much money and pressure to take it back.

If you watch the tape, there is no reason why Slater could not have wrapped his arms around the Sharks player and tackled him into touch. Slater instead chose to use an illegal method to stop him. So are footballers the only people in society to get messy on their time off. I’ve been in the city many times on a Friday night to see office workers making an absolute tools of themselves. No coverage in the DT despite many I know for a fact work on multi- million dollars deals every day. Same with in the suburban pub with guys in hi-vis getting messy, yet no coverage of it in the DT.
The sooner people stop putting footballers on a pedal stool and thinking that they are anything better than the average guy in their 20s the better. That includes the faux rage when they get drunk.

I think it is a weak argument to say the that footballers are grown men and rich so therefore they deserve no privacy away from the football on the days off.

To me, Mad Monday is the professional sports version the work Xmas party. Sure it was not a good look by what the Canterbury club did but I dare say most of us have gotten a bit loose at a Xmas party in our lives (cue the righteous “but I’ve never done that” crowd). I hate to see what the telegraph would pull up if they hid and photographed what went on at everybody’s Xmas party.

I think the Commonwealth Games could unite Kiwi sports fan if held in NZ. Unfortunately due to its size, NZ will never host the Olympics, FIFA World Cup and properly not even the Rugby World Cup as a sole host again.
What else besides the a Commonwealth Games could the Kiwis host that would be able to unite the whole of NZ?
Why New Zealand should bid for the Commonwealth Games
I know a lot of people are against the Commonwealth Games but I don’t understand the hate. It’s a sports competition. Is it trying to be the Olympics? No. Do they think it’s as big or grand as the Olympics? No.
I like it, it’s a sports filler when there isn’t much else on. How can that be a bad thing?
I hope New Zealand or Canada do bid and do get the games, it has been too long . The UK and Australia between them will have hosted the games 5 out of the last 6 games by the time Birmingham host in 2022 – Manchester, Melbourne, “New Delhi”, Glasgow, Gold Coast and Birmingham

Growing up in the 80’s, I still look back fondly on Day Grand Finals. I still remember the bbqs with family friends and playing front yard footy before the big game. I remember there still being enough daylight left to reenact the great moves in the grand final like the 1980 Steve Gearin try and the 1981 Brett Kenny dummy. I look at my youngest son now who is knackered even before kickoff. The NRL are denying kids the treasured memories I had growing up.
