The carniival thing’s a brainchild of the AFL, finding a way to accomadate 17 teams in the Nab cup. The original plan was to have one of North Ballarat, Central districts or Swan districts, a represantative from the VFL, Sanfl or Wafl, or my personal favourite, a rest of Australia team, made up of second teir players across the land.

Sheedy volunteered GWS for the role, and notified the AFL that if GWS was not included, the Blacktown oval was not to be made available for the NAB cup. The AFL wanted to host a game in Sydney, SCG was being rented out to Cricket, and there was no way they’ld play at ANZ. What choice did the AFL have?

Sheedy is 100% to blame for this. If Folau plays, good for him. A point I will have to make is that Folau will have recieved a full VFL/AFL preseason, so he should be in better condition than K.Hunt was. He’ll also have been handling a sherrin for 3 months, and be sick to death of watching the 2010 finals series.

Is it wise for Israel Folau to debut in the NAB Cup?

LeCras should be ahead of the Pav, Chapman, Green and Judd. Why is judd always selected? His name now seems to say All-Australian. And of the CHF Franklin has really been the only one to dazzle us. The Pav if selected, would have had his worst AA year, while brown and N. Riewoldt missed too much footy this year.

How will the 2010 All-Australian team look?

Do you know what? Its kind of hard not to love your coach when his name’s bluey (coached my last 2 years of junior football, probably wasn’t any different, but me and my teammates loved him, and we played finals for the first time ever).

The Gold Coast Suns are set to shine

TY for the mention of my previous home, i wondered if there’ld beany comments about it.

That’s a reason it will survive, for at least another decade or so. Glasgow has already won the 2014 games and is preparing for them, while Gold Coast and Hambantota in Sri Lanka are well into their bidding process’s for 2018.

The commonwealth games gives cities which could not possibly get the Olympics, a chance to host a major event. When Glasgow won the Games, we were all esctatic. Ironically, our school had organised a sports day at one of the centers they were planning to upgrade for the games. What a fun day that was.

Delhi could be the death knell for the Commonwealth Games

It’s Very interesting isn’t it, coming from a UK background, where all sports are on Pay-Tv, which a huge majority of the country has.

Reasons for it? The sport is the major one, watching the EPL, SPL, Super League, Magners League, AViva Premiership, Heinekan cup and in the younger demographic, a lot of overseas Basketball. The other reason is, well a lot of the FTA channels are really quite bad.

The only Legislation is that no Network can hold a monopoly over the Leagues. Sky (Fox) Sports broadcasts nearly all of these games with a few on ESPN (Previously Setanta Sports), and the occasional game on the BBC.

My viewpoint is to protect big events. Olympics, commonwealth games, Winter olympics, World Cups, Finals series, SoO, Tennis Opens, some F1 Racing, and International games Ie) Bledisloe cup, Tri/Quad Nations etc. But don’t stop The Pay networks broadcasting these at the same time.

Anti-siphoning legislation a microcosm of Australian politics

I agree with Harvey. Every player on every list has the ability to play AFL. Harvey had every right to give these players opportunities, especially in the circumstances.

In chess, when playing with at least 3 boards, the aim is to win. However, you cannot use all your time on 1 board. If you don’t think you will win one game, ie. opponent in much better position than you on that board. You can give up that game, to set up play on your other matches, and put yourself in a much better position to win the whole thing. That’s what Harvey did, and I don’t hold a grudge.

Harvey defends selections following Freo's thrashing

Riewoldt is the Saints best player, and Gram should have shared the Norm Smith with Chapman (I’ve hated countback systems, it always seems retarded) and saints will need them both firing to kick a winning score, even with their defense first mentality. With both of them back in form that helps them a long way towards winning the premiership.

However, Collingwood’s press, rotations and depth (along with victories over Geelong and St. Kilda) puts them in an Ideal position, and you cannot discount Geelong’s belief and ability. The Bulldogs as well, although they must recover from this virus, and get their best 22 on the field, which unfortunately means dumping Johnson.

Worry for Collingwood is the fact that their playing finals. In their last 6 finals, they’ve Lost to Geelong (twice), beat Adelaide (twice) and Lost to St. Kilda (twice). And they probably should have gone out in straight sets last year (worst umpiring desicion ever!)

Only three teams can win the 2010 premiership

22 Year old Tommy Walsh signed with St. Kilda at the conclusion of their 2009 season. he was a gaelic Football “prodigy” that County Kerry hoped they wouldn’t lose.
He played In St. Kilda’s NAB cup round 1 win over Collingwood.. he was later described as running around like headless chicken.
For St. Kilda’s VFL affiliate Sandringham, he has played both at CHB and CHF with some success. Looks comfortable at CHB and is actually quite good at it, and usually kicks a goal when in the Forward line (kicked 2 goals 3 behinds at one point).
However. the earliest he”lll play a “full match” will probably be the AFL’s strange Twenty20 Carnival games next year.

Now, coming from a game very similar to aussie rules, he has taken a long time to develop, however had st. Kilda been a developing team, he may have played 6-10 matches because of Good VFL performances.

Karmichael hunt has had Good VFL performances, and is playing in a developing team. I know where I stand.

Why Karmichael Hunt will be an AFL success

A few Problems.

AFL Contracted to play the GF there till 2030 or 2040.

Only other stadium big enough for AD’s Corporates plays the other Grand Final the day after.

Shouldn’t the stadium always be booked for the week after in case of a Draw?

We'll move AFL grand final, threatens Demetriou

The AFL has 4 regions in Australia to take care of. FNQ (probably Cairns), ACT, Tasmania and NT. For NT, either a stronger relationship with Port Adelaide (4 games a year I would think), an Association with the FNQ team (3 or 4 games), or their own team. For the rest, Individual teams are nessecary.

International Development is important, but the Pacific Islands (Possibly excluding NZ) are the most appropriate area. Do you plan for in 5-10 years time that the Pacific team (or even a solo PNG team) plays in the U18 Division 2, out of Port Moresby?

AFL's under 16's National Championship

You beat me to the punch MC, Was in the final stages of an article similar to this.

Hobart is better short term. Team aspirations from Tasmania mean a maximum of 8 years (begin playing games in 2012, Tassie team in 2020) and North would once again be taking money, with no real connection to the locals.

However, Ballarat looms as a likely “Home away from home”. A (very) long term deal to play 3 games a year there (Gws/GC/Freo/Port), would create another fanbase, adding to the combined fanbase from the North ballarat VFL side. Imagine if North could create the same atmosphere as Geelong has at Skilled.

If North could get say 3000-5000 memberships from Ballarat, in say a 15,000 capacity stadium, along with 7000-9000 Melbourne-based Members then 3000 tickets to the general public/opposition supporters, a wonderful long-term partnership could occur.

Ballarat or Hobart for North Melbourne?

Hodge- Defense-9
Midfield-9
Forward-8
Ruck-7
33 out of 40. Whats goodes as a key defender?

Who is the most complete player in AFL?

In the Afls new “Capped interchanges” plan, the punishment could fit the crime. Perhaps losing 20 interchanges and not alllowed any for that quarter? No immediate impact like that, but tired hawthorn players making mistakes could have cost them the game instead.

AFL needs to revise 'harsh' interchange infringement rule

Massively agreed.

Or we could go back to the count where the teams entire score is eliminated.

I think that would be much more exciting!

AFL needs to revise 'harsh' interchange infringement rule

Thought I would have liked it in AFL from a nuetral supporters point of view after the Collingwood Melbourne game earlier this year.

But after watching it from a st. Kilda point of view, I was surprised to be happy and content with the 2 points for a draw.

Golden point extra time a winning change

Maybe trading from some of the more successful clubs for youth who ain’t getting played?

Jobe Watson has come of age as Essendon captain

It happens every so often in matches, If play is switched to that side of the ground, generaly because of zoning there are very few players on the opposite side of the ground. It gives a tactical advantage to the team.

Debate rages again as Hawks and Saints draw

Loving that clash strip mate. Not too sure about he away guernsy, but home and clash are good for me. Stylised Logo not such a good look.

Song is strange, but in 10 years or so it won’t be so bad, hell even right now its better than the power, Freo, Eagles………………………

It's official: the Gold Coast Suns are set to rise

It was very funny. Poll the english speakers on what is football and you’ld get a rabid mix. We all know however that Americans will never ever change their views. so lets give in to them and call it soccer.

Time to reinvent the Socceroos nickname

A game where 2 teams of 46 players wrestle and throw balls at each other.

A game where 2 teams of 25 drunken irishmen kick, punch, slap and maul each other. But no tackling. thats for wimps.

Time to reinvent the Socceroos nickname

South Park reference win.

Time to reinvent the Socceroos nickname

Celtic and Rangers would do very well if introduced into the EPL. The huge sponsorship money coming from everywhere, plus the almost tribal fanbases in Glasgow (CELTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Would probably see them sitting abot 9th and 10th on the EPL ladder.

Scottish Revolution starts at Middlesbrough

Love your attitude MC. No better way to combat prophets of doom than with hard facts, and good suggestions. With no more Gold Coast games what happens? Easy. Canberra, Darwin, Hobart and even Cairns/Townsville are good interstate choices, while playing maybe 2 or 3 games in rural Victoria against intersate sides may provide decent success.

The AFL also needs Melbourne games to be against other melbourne teams. Carlton, Essendon, Richmond and Collingwood must be played at home each year. And Collingwood to change its bloody stripes! The Away team must change!

The kids are North Melbourne's future

Thanks for clarifying but my point still stands due to population density.

ACT- 154.04 people per square kilometre
Tasmania- 7.35 people per square kilometre.

The fact that their “Heathens” to Demetriou, should also help.

Does the AFL care about teams in Tasmania and Darwin?

Canberra wil have a permanent AFL team begore either Tasmania or NT, ACT has the population of Tasmania, in a much smaller location, as well as firmly being a Rugby Area.
