Good thoughts to ponder

What impact could Super Rugby teams ignoring points have in a RWC year?

Nice read, thanks

The best Rugby World Cup bolters of all time

a nice piece, however, i. Izzy didnt ‘turn this into a crusade’. and ii. ‘no one person is bigger..’, it is not Izzy that should go, it is Castle and Clyne – they have brought Rugby into disrepute, not Izzy.

No one person is bigger than the game

With the three person panel to decide the fate , here is my considered anaylsis: Kate Eastman will vote to sack him – based on past cases that she has worked on, John Boultbee from RUPA should vote to keep him, so that leaves John West who holds the power to decide the outcome

Folau hearing drags on into third day

and just to stir the pot a little, it occurred to me that after this is settled, Folau might get a nice contract with a NZ team. Now that would really make me laugh.

Israel Folau saga erupts again as Taniela Tupou weighs in

It took me a while to get behind the blasted pay wall, but persistence has paid off.
I think PFS is clutching at straws and being overly sanctimonious when he says: “The Jesus I was raised on – a kind, protective soul – would stand with the troubled teenagers.” but fails to note that he is now a confirmed aethiest, so he is posing a scenario that he has no belief in as the substance to his story.
And one more thing, while I have sincere sympathy for the troubled LGBTQ teen and the high suicide rates, I point out that correlation is not the same as causation and that those high suicide rates are most likely due to mental illness, not gayness.

Giving tickets to school boy players would have been the obvious choice to bolster numbers. If I look at the number of rugby playing schools in Sydney I think I count about 16 (gps and independent), some have a dozen open teams, some six, so about 8 open teams on average, lets say 16 times 8 times 20 (for number in each team), that is about 2560 extras, and double again if they each bring one parent. I know its a big ask to get players to see a game (for free), but surely, as a first game at the stadium, some might have accepted. If not, the game (super rugby) is dead.

Waratahs miss platinum opportunity in the Golden West

Good read Geoff. I have long thought the NRC was necessary, but you have raised some interesting points: 1. It costs a lot; 2. It lacks organic growth with teams put in and pulled out; 3. Fiji Drua won it, how does that benefit Australian rugby development?; 4. Some players have made the transition to professional rugby after being spotted in NRC.
Now I think perhaps we should build on strengths: expand Shute Shield to include games with Dewar Shield clubs and what ever the QLD, ACT and WA comps are called. Certainly broadcast these games. Keep the state tribalism, but grow the opportunities for players and coaches.

The Wrap: Is Rugby Australia about to kill off the NRC, and if so, what happens next?

$77 is not a bad price for a night of entertainment , and you could pick up much cheaper seats too (you know this of course) and not be in the best spot, but will it be a great night of entertainment? Part of the excitement of going to the game is being with the big crowd, so if the crowd is sparse, I would rather not go too

How Rugby Australia got it so right, and the Panthers so wrong

I think the jury is still out as to whether RA has got anything right at all. All they have done is bide their time until the World Cup. David, could you please explain what the measure of success is that you have used here, because it isn’t team performance.
You say that the appointments of O’Connor and Johnson took courage. Interesting. As we have just commemorated ANZAC day, where courage meant having the strength to do something that you fear, you seem to use it to mean that they saved Cheika’s job despite the overall call for his sack by mugs like me.

Yep, you are right, I have very little idea how sponsorships work. agree with your comments

Izzy and Rugby AU: A monumental misconception

sorry about that – the system has a time delay in accepting submissions.

Izzy and Rugby AU: A monumental misconception

I would think that entity would have to ‘toe the line’ so to speak. Follow my bidding. Yes?

Izzy and Rugby AU: A monumental misconception

I would think that if I paid close to $10 million to an entity in advance, then that entity would have to ‘toe the line’ so to speak. Follow my bidding. Yes?

Izzy and Rugby AU: A monumental misconception

According to the RA financials, they have already received close to $10 million in sponsorship monies, so I’m not sure how it would work if they wanted to pull out. What do you think?

Izzy and Rugby AU: A monumental misconception

Fionn, could you tell me which sponsors are threatening to pull out please

Izzy and Rugby AU: A monumental misconception

Fionn, you say there are “threats of sponsors pulling out, risking the financial sustainability of the sport.”
Do you know who these sponsors are? Is it Qantas? What other sponsors are making these threats?
Finally, with the prepayment of sponsorships of close to $10 million as listed on RA financial statements, I put it to you that RA is now a resource controlled by Qantas from which Qantas is likely to receive economic benefit in the way of publicity and sales , and RA should therefore be considered an Asset of said Qantas.

TWAS when you say they “are saddled with this issue from the past” you infer that it is something that happened to them but they are the architect of what is happening to them now.

They haven’t been saddled with anything. They chose to pump money into Melbourne Rugby ($10.2m in 2017, $7.55m in 2018, over and above what other SR franchises were receiving each year, circa $5.6 m in 2017, $5.8 m in 2018, need I go back further), they chose not accept Andrew Forrest’s money.

This path has been engineered by RA themselves, they have not simply been “saddled” with it.

Rugby Australia names panel for Folau code of conduct hearing

a good analysis of NZ dire situation! (I wish that was the type of problems we faced in Australian rugby)

Hansen won’t rush to swap Barrett for Mo’unga

TWAS you are getting confused again.
A deficit refers to less cash coming in than going out. When there is a short fall between revenue and expenses that is called a loss.
Getting the deferred revenue in advance to prop up the sinking ship so that they can pay wages and superannuation will keep them afloat.
What is happening is that RA have pulled in about $17.628 m of moneys that don’t actually vest until 2019 and even longer – 2020, maybe longer, the notes do not tell us. So those sponsors and Gov grants have been paid up and wont be paying again until 2021. Who will keep the RA ship afloat? They have equity of $26.7 m and once that is gone so are they.

Not at all – you try to bring up distractions and side rail conversations when you don’t like what is being said.

that’s not true TWAS

Not interesting at all. Are they going to axe a home based team to save themselves?
