Felix Magath needs a new job.

Sydney FC coach Ian Crook resigns

Y u no Pete Siddle?

Selector Inverarity hints at no spinner for the Gabba Test

I’m loving being a Toffee man at the moment, but it could be interesting when we square up against Chelsea and Arsenal. Before those games, it’s crucial that we don’t make banana skins for ourselves, like Wigan almost were at the weekend.

A moment to reflect on the EPL Top 10

From what I’ve read elsewhere, McKay looks like he’s going to be at LB.

22-man Socceroos squad named for Iraq 2014 WCQ

I’m actually delirious with happiness over this. 🙂

CONFIRMED: Alessandro Del Piero signs for Sydney FC

I didn’t really get the sense from Mike’s article that the A-League ‘needs’ ADP. Could be a case of a sub-editor being liberal with their headline rather than Mike hanging the A-League’s future on his arrival.

Why the A-League doesn't need Del Piero

So much passion… and pyromania.

Football hooligans Gallop's first headache

Excellent points made, especially about C. White. His (atrocious) form in the Big Bash was not really treated for what it was: a from slump. Agree that Bailey shouldn’t be in at three, and Wade can do the job there. Will be interesting to see if the selectors plump for Paine in the future.

Picking the Australian XI for Sri Lanka 2012

A couple of things:
1) Personal terms have not been agreed, so saying he’s leaving for money could be way off the mark.
2) NY appear to have made an offer, not a case of Cahill agitating for a move, he’s taking an opportunity that was offered to him. If an A-League club had of had the wherewithal to make a similar offer, then he could of taken them up on it.

Cahill set to leave EPL for New York Red Bulls in MLS

Fuss, just on your first point of the ACL being the cream of Asian football, there is a real opportunity for clubs to promote ACL games as showcasing the cream of the world’s footballing talent. At the moment, players such as Drogba, Anelka, Barrios, Kanoute, Yakubu and Seydou Keita are playing in China alone. If some of those names came up against either Melbourne club, they’d be worth the flight from Hobart, which I normally only make for derby games.

How important is Asia in FFA's next media deal?

I see no problem with pre-season cups based in each state or region. In the case of Melbourne, Sydney and the F3, put the A-League clubs on opposite sides of the draw and see how far they can go. Good chance for the clubs to look at the talent that is out there in state leagues and a unique opportunity to see how these players go against A-League standard competition.

We need pre-season cups in football

I think that the marquee spot should be used to keep quality players, such as a Flores or Broich in the A-League once they have proved their worth to a team and have gained a reputation, not just as a good player, but one who really makes the League tick. If clubs want to attract more people through the gates with big names, then the guest player rule is perhaps a better way of doing that. The shorter stint ensures that the novelty factor stays and puts a bit of pressure on fans to turn up immediately to watch the player before they take off again. Also, there’s less financial risk as clubs aren’t lumped with a player for one or more seasons if they turn out to be a flop.

Is the marquee rule still relevant to the A-League?

A bigger marquee than Harry… Ballack’s just been pushed into international retirement and might like a few years in the sun in Sydney.

Should Sydney FC move to Parramatta?

Used to think you were OK, Ljubo. Now I think you’re a douche.

Didn’t the government put money into a few reviews of the AFL back in the day? It’s not just football getting the money.

Another football review is not to be feared
