Beale or Cooper?

A thought occurred to me today: Whilst Cooper is good, perhaps Beale is the real reason for the resurgance of the Wallabies late last year.…

I think there are stories that before 1995 that he was practically signed up for someone…

Is Carter Gordon really an NRL prospect... and which Australian rugby legends could have made the switch too?

Yet another person with a comment on Quade’s supposed defensive frailty…

But follows up by saying Foley “held his own”? Foley was really, a very ordinary defender.
Also no mention of Beale’s horrible defensive liability… Focus on Quade’s defense only?

When will the idea that Quade is a defensive liability die? The bloke was moved by his coach, and other successive coaches after that… and others followed suit and hid their playmakers as well (Cough cough, Foley), yet still, people harp on about Quade not being able to tackle and neglect others in a similar boat. It’s tiresome.

I have NEVER understood the whole “Union players would have to learn to tackle if they went to League”, or “League players can tackle better…” It’s guff. Tripe. There are good defenders in both, and horrible defenders in both. League defensive systems might be good, arguably better at times, but their individual tacklers are no better than any individual in Union. End of story.

Well you won’t see that without picking them… but they are different players to say Clarke and Telia are power/pace wingers. Penaud is an out and out winger. Older, more experienced wingers have failed to contain them, so I guess it depends what you look for. Pace on our side would be good for once. Who was our last fast winger? I mean express?

Would be oddly satisfying having two fast wingers… imagine.

It would be papering over massive holes in his game.

Came over as a centre didn’t he?

I think Edmed is out of the equation for Wallabies 10 at the moment. Might be time to put Harrison into the starting role when fit and ready.

I think by default of kicking goals, and his team at the top, Noah has his hands on the spot, but something about his play… is uninspiring to me.

KPM, I agree with you, it might be a confidence issue, and he might be worth continuing with… however not at this level if it is costing you games. Pay him to play club rugby, and learn when to do what.

They are not great solutions granted, but the issue is the window for RA affording the comp are well past, and not yet here…

They can’t afford to prop up a losing competition right now. They should have stumped up a decade ago, or even around 2009 or whenever they first had a crack… but they lost their nerve. Now they will have to wait for money to give it another go.

Everyone counting on the investment or the $100M or whatever they have secured in advance of Lions and RWC… I fear it is the cash advance before payday… you still need to pay it back, so you are not in front at all. With interest, you are worse off.

I don’t think Creighton is as good as he needs to be. I am yet to see him do anything good. He’s solid, but we need better than solid. I wonder if he would be worth shifting one wider to inside centre. Having said that, I doubted HP’s input this year, but in the last two games, he has had blinders at 12. So I could be wrong about EVERYTHING of course.

All true KPM, but it hasn’t translated at all, and how long do the Reds wait for that talent to actually show? First two years were injury clouded, and I think, he showed more promise then than since… Are they missing playing another player who actually has instincts for the game by continuing with SV?

Inglis when he was leaving the Storm. ARU should have thrown the sink at him. From memory, there was a lot of uncertainty at the time, when he agreed to the Broncs then backed out…

League wingers are amazing at shooting in early and leaving their man outside.

You are right.. instead, rugby warehouses them in the top tier with… training.

Well… Sailor, Rogers, Tuquiri et al all gave it a longer shot than RTS and Benji.
Folau for all his attacking brilliance was a terrible def solve fullback. I can’t recall him ever saving a try.
But Vinivalu seems to me to be getting worse each year. It’s perplexing. I thought the limited times we saw him in years 1 and 2, he showed enough to be very promising, but the more he plays, the more lost he looks.

I’m not talking about Caleb Clarkes try. It was a long run earlier in the game by the Blues 8 down their left wing. Agreed he was stuck for a good decision when Clarke made his run.
I’d have to look at the game again to find out exactly when it was.

I’d have to look again… to me it appeared he came in for any visible reason and pushed the blues player who was not involved and was not going to be involved. I couldn’t see any real reason for his actions, leaving the ball carrier open space on the outside.

Lots to unpack here… But I’ll focus on the Reds.
Vunivalu cost the Reds twice… Sure he scored a try, but he blew an easy put down at the start of the game, and for the Blues come back, he inexplicably came off his wing, pushed a Blues player out of the way infield, leaving the Blues 8, who had the ball, free and unmarked to trot down his open wing. Watching live, it was a terrible decision to focus on a player of no consequence to the play, and leave the ball carrier open for such a run.
I desperately want SV to play well, but each week, I just can’t see him worthy of a starting berth…

Our scrum has been strong all year… until last night when it was adjudged to be oddly weak.

'Heartbreaking': Blues sink Reds with post-siren try after rising star scores epic hat-trick

He called it, then the very next scrum he was standing on the tight head side for the Blues feed so he couldn’t even see their feed. The crowd gave it to him big time as the blues halfback… fed it exactly the same as every other scrum this year, and last and the year before! Crooked.

Actually the crowd gave it to him several times over the course of the game for other inconsistencies.

It was incredible. Hard to remember such a refereeing performance…

Thanks Andy. But I haven’t seen them making highlight reels…

'Purely coincidental': Chiefs coach defends bruiser after ANOTHER late shot leaves Tah flattened - but was it legal?

This is a tough thing… very borderline, yes. Illegal? No.
But this bloke racking up 10s late isn’t a fantastic look in my opinion… but that’s just me. Others love it.
I just think it smacks of Lawes early on in his career. Thought of as some “hit man” but all he was hitting was 10s who’d already passed the ball. No shots on running forwards or indeed, even 10s with the ball.
Courtney Lawes went on and has had a fantastic career, but early on, there was little substance. Again, just me…
So I’m hoping this bloke can start hitting blokes with the ball. Because right now, the only skill he is showing is getting there… just… after they’ve passed so he can floor them.

Yeah I think the big issue is that RA has spent the money they don’t have, so any bank coming in, is already spent paying back the advance.
