But does super rugby then have an overseas option for getting more players?

RA reeling and facing a mass exodus of biggest stars - there are three key reasons why they're in peril

I always find it confusing that players playing OS would not be selected. Soccer has done this and players return to national competition as required.
The decision was made to go pro a few decades ago and so why can’t it be that players have an open choice as to where they play? Money is a draw card as they have a short career and having the choice of OS but not affecting their national chances makes sense. This would mean less influence to switch codes. It also takes financial pressure off AR.
It’s my amateur view but many people know the ins and outs better than I do.

It reminded me of cartoon pictures of politicians, this guy is a cartoon with no help from anyone

RA's manic Monday and how it will shape the future of the Australian game

I read in a Japanese news outlet that Eddie has been hired as a consultant for the AGM so everything will be on the up and up. Hamish will have a background analysis to pass on to Eddie to avoid being involved in any rumours of pre-AGM meetings.
On the bright side, nothing could be worse than last year so we don’t need to worry about reaching any high standards.

The one takeaway could be player safety. I’ve been ko’d when playing and I’m enif now.
One point that needs to be raised is that we learn from our mistakes 1970 get knocked out great 2024 get knocked out not so much. The cost to rugby by not getting in line with what we know now would be huge let alone what it does to the lives connected with these types of collisions.
Sports great, love the game of rugby but this should be a no brainer protect the players and change the way it is played to minimise injury.
Medically we know more so why not implement it? Maybe I’m missing something.
Just to clarify my stance is this, the tackle could be argued about hence 133 comments, my view is player safety being a base as to whether the tackle was legal or penalty or yellow.

'What you permit, you promote': Reds slam late 'cheap shot', HMP set to start ahead of Lynagh in Rebels grudge match

Interesting thought on expenditure, did Eddie bill any calls or internet use to RA. Be funny if he was billing RA for the Japanese job or internet use for zoom calls.

Waugh reveals shocking $2.6 million unapproved budget blowout on Eddie Jones' World Cup debacle

I miss Eddie. I miss the days when you could look at a coach interview and confuse Eddie with Donald Duck.
Sadly these are troubled times that RA say they are going to listen to sound advice.
Who knows where that may lead?
For Hamish to make the call to get Eddie and scrub the years Renni put in that were starting to show results tells more about how much panic was in RA. Eddie was a symptom of that and had free rain to spend and as one comment said the others in RA would have been charging their expenses as well.
If RA is going forward with a sound agenda they need to be transparent and honest. What Eddie has done is give a starting point to rebuild a clean slate so to speak. Rock Bottom gives RA a clean slate and I think fans would appreciate transparency like publishing the full review report and showing us the report recommended this so we have done that and followed the recommendations with positive action.
This needs to start at home so Super Rugby teams know that RA has got their back and right down the line to school age. RA could rebuild rugby in Australia by being its servant and showing it works for rugby on all levels to support players, clubs, and school-age to help give them the best outcomes possible which also shows fans that rugby is a unified team sport on all levels. The biggest damage caused by last year was trust.

Waugh reveals shocking $2.6 million unapproved budget blowout on Eddie Jones' World Cup debacle

Unfortunately, Eddie just had a fill-in before Japan. The problem was he knew he was gone after WC and even said so in May 23. There were no consequences to his actions. QC interview he said it was common knowledge in Japan that Eddie was going to Japan.
As much as his experiment on the Wallabies to bring in new young players the coaching staff didn’t appear to be up to it, so I don’t understand why he didn’t back the players with high-quality coaches.
They looked lost at times. So Eddie is gone now and I really hope all the prospects for the Wallabies get a fair go now. I wish Eddie all the best in Japan and I don’t want any more of his stupid lies and BS. Let some sanity return and never mention his name again.

'Stands out like dog's balls', 'set up for failure': Wretched Eddie-Slips moment that explains World Cup disaster

So taking that idea and transposing it to the Wallabies has Eddie instilled a belief in them that they have the potential to be able to lose every game they play?

'Could be a big deal' - Robbie Deans could be at the centre of Japanese Rugby's 'Coolum effect' - and he's been here before

If QC is good enough this year he should be selected.
I do think a mentor situation exists, as EJ’s remove all self-confidence policies in the group he coached would be of benefit this year. People like Hooper and others may still have a roll, time will tell

All nice comments and respectful.
I find it difficult to look at the pre and post-professional periods and compare them. The amateurs had a different perspective as they gave up a lot to play so retiring had very different pressures, today players also give up a lot but obviously very different.
Fairfax is right about the quality of stars like himself and Ella missing these days. Someone who may get there has just gone to league.

I think anyone who has looked into last year would cut the players a fair bit of slack. I hope they get a good go this year they deserve it. Some sanity around the team then see how they go.

How Joe Schmidt is going to 'connect us all' and bring Australian rugby back from the brink

Anyone from last year deserves a break from AR if they feel the need. I think one aspect of last year that will tell a new tail is how players recover.
When you stop and think about it they had the lies, the lack of quality staff, the lack of direction let alone the losses, injuries. It’s heaps to deal with and they are young guys.
Losing matches is one thing but now the guys have to regain trust and faith in the new staff. One fortunate aspect is Eddie was so busy f#cking up the Wallabies he didn’t get the chance to do that to the Wallaroos.

But in Australia the drive would take on the colour of a journey much the same as we journey through life. In that journey, we would have time to reflect and contemplate. So as the journey progresses and the reflection gives insights we come to an understanding that we should have taken the bloody plane.

“If I was to summarise it I think he’ll cut through the fluff – get to the main things that matter,” Kiss said. “He’ll get to the main things that matter.
It’s a very fluffy article about cutting through the fluff.
If time is given to development and the Wallabies are given time together to develop cohesion we could see improvement. I’d much prefer to see us two years down the track just simply playing well and competitively. This is a process that will take at least a few years to do correctly.

How Joe Schmidt is going to 'connect us all' and bring Australian rugby back from the brink

It has been a while since we have had consistent teams that have the time together to build cohesion. Through injury and other reasons, players haven’t had the ongoing time together. These days that is needed across a depth of players so the whole squad has cohesion.
SA and the ABs have that so they remain competitive even after losing a few players.
EJ showed us how thin on the ground we are, and no I don’t think he was clever enough to do that intentionally. Other top teams in the RWC showed that they had some depth too.
We need several players who can take penalties and conversions and know how to kick tactically.
If rugby is to become a better game in Australia it will take time, the mentality of an instant fix has to be stopped. If EJ did anything he showed that, and no I don’t think he was clever enough to do that intentionally.
There are good signs that RA has good intentions and Joe sounds like he has a nut-and-bolts attitude. There are a lot of good Australian players so some of the building blocks are there and the results will come but the quick-fix attitude doesn’t work, thanks Eddie, and no I don’t think he was clever enough to do that intentionally.
“But rugby is facing an existential crisis in Australia and we absolutely need Schmidt to hit the ground running on the scoreboard, if he’s not going to fire up in the public arena. ” This type of comment shows my point as an unrealistic vision of what is needed. Australia has shown good results sporadically Dunedin for example but how realistic is it to expect instant results? It’s stupid to suggest instant results and frankly insulting to suggest that and it goes straight back to Hamish and Eddie this time last year. The teams put too much time and effort into what they do to turn around and say new coach instant results must come. If rugby in Australia can rebuild through the whole spectrum we can have good results consistently and that will keep rear ends on seats.

COMMENT: In trading Greatest Showman for 'boring' and 'pragmatic' Sleepy Joe, RA gambling with game's future

I just think a bit of honesty goes a long way. The crazy stuff we have had and the rubbish we have been fed it’s a surprise that people still follow it.
It has a prime example of QLD rugby not trusting RA, why would they?
If RA bothers to earn trust different story.
The biggest question remains as to whether I get the Leg Comment of the Day Award.

COMMENT: In trading Greatest Showman for 'boring' and 'pragmatic' Sleepy Joe, RA gambling with game's future

EJ was in complete Hail Mary mode.
Cooper’s interview in Japan explains a lot of what was going on. I’d rather not know what was in Eddie’s head. It would not be far off the mark though to say he felt he could do anything just to see if it would work as he was killing time before the Japan job.
If a silver lining can be found is that he did clear the decks for change. And no I don’t think he was clever enough to do that intentionally.
The way he went about team selection/notification says more about his priorities at the time. I hope he grows up in Japan as the Brave Blossoms don’t deserve his stupid behaviour he inflicted on the Wallabies and RA in general.

'What the hell is going on?': Jilted Wallaby reveals Jones chaos and tells coaching flop to 'at least be honest'

One thing that will show RA has changed for the better is the depth of players for each position. Joe says he prefers players at home rather than overseas but we still need depth so how he balances that will be interesting. Building depth in Australia is going to take years.
It would be good to see Larkam get some time with Joe as well.

COMMENT: In trading Greatest Showman for 'boring' and 'pragmatic' Sleepy Joe, RA gambling with game's future

The Eddie/Marx Brothers style of the last 12 months is going to take time to recover from, as is the legacy of the RA board. It’s always evident from the comments on the Roar that people are still passionate about rugby but serious trust issues in RA’s decisions have left deep scars.
Rugby can be a great game to watch when teams are competitive and if the new Kids on the Block can get that going in Australia it would mean that we’re back on track. It will take time. It took time for the Wallabies to get to the point where a lineout could just fall to the ground for total indecision.
If RA can get their act together, which strangely, they seem to be doing and the new coach and staff build well and the team is able to build cohesion and trust in themselves we could be well respected by 2027. But that is a big shopping list so it would also give fans time to adjust to a frank and honest dialogue about where rugby is at in Australia. I want to give these guys a chance. If top-tier games are competitive, the Wallaroos become fully professional, and super rugby becomes competitive rugby may be back up there in Australia. It will take time and a lack of bullsh#t to get there.

Is RA slow or is there a lack of interest? I would think that after last year the job is a daunting prospect for any sane coach.
