The Eddie/Marx Brothers style of the last 12 months is going to take time to recover from, as is the legacy of the RA board. It’s always evident from the comments on the Roar that people are still passionate about rugby but serious trust issues in RA’s decisions have left deep scars.
Rugby can be a great game to watch when teams are competitive and if the new Kids on the Block can get that going in Australia it would mean that we’re back on track. It will take time. It took time for the Wallabies to get to the point where a lineout could just fall to the ground for total indecision.
If RA can get their act together, which strangely, they seem to be doing and the new coach and staff build well and the team is able to build cohesion and trust in themselves we could be well respected by 2027. But that is a big shopping list so it would also give fans time to adjust to a frank and honest dialogue about where rugby is at in Australia. I want to give these guys a chance. If top-tier games are competitive, the Wallaroos become fully professional, and super rugby becomes competitive rugby may be back up there in Australia. It will take time and a lack of bullsh#t to get there.

COMMENT: In trading Greatest Showman for 'boring' and 'pragmatic' Sleepy Joe, RA gambling with game's future

Is RA slow or is there a lack of interest? I would think that after last year the job is a daunting prospect for any sane coach.

COMMENT: Rugby Australia given wake-up call by All Blacks ... AGAIN

Without Grammarly, I’d sound like a combination of Eddie and Donald Trump.

Broken promises, sacrificial lambs and a monumental low blow - goodbye, good riddance to 2023 for Wallabies fans

If you get the chance Mary’s house is not far as is John’s tomb. Sorry don’t know where Redemption is.

Not super, Cooper: Quade's Wallabies recall mission begins with yellow card, thumping loss in Japan

Too much reality for this time of year.
Definitely food for thought though. I hope Eddie comes good as it would be a sad finish for his career if he continued down the same path as last year.

Broken promises, sacrificial lambs and a monumental low blow - goodbye, good riddance to 2023 for Wallabies fans

Perhaps RA has hit rock bottom, the biggest worry is that they may not take the lessons of 2023 as a learning curve. The AA 12 steps would not be out of place as they move forward. The biggest problem is that they don’t need to save face anymore, they f..ed up so badly the only thing they need to do is honestly accept their mistakes and move to correct them. It however seems beyond them as their coach campaign is glorifying the exciting future in Australian rugby, that maybe but I’d be more excited by an honest expression of rebuilding.
In 2024 I’d like to see a consolidation and putting into place solid systems and respect for players. If we get to this time next year and the players are enjoying playing and results are competitive I think that would be a good reflection of improvement.
Top article as usual Harry Happy New Year
I hope Michael Geoffrey Leitch has a good year with Edward and Eddie respects his experience.

No, they blew that budget with Edward.

RA's new HP director 'totally open' to foreign coach as RA sets timeline, CEO reacts to player dismay over Eddie

I enjoyed your article immensely, well done.
Given that Japan now has EJ with a lot of say over its whole structure they may well find problems they did not expect.
Eddie has had problems in England and then Australia. I think he is doing his best. That said and from an outside observation, decisions have been made by Eddie that really don’t make any sense. I am not criticising Eddie, he has had great success in the past, I want to point out that the decline in the last few years seems to indicate he has passed his best.
As we age things change and I wish no ill will on the guy, but looking at the team and coaches he used are not sound decisions from a man with his knowledge and experience.
I hope I’m wrong but I think Japan may have sidestepped into a pile of p00.

Japanese rugby is a wolf in sheep’s clothing - Australia and NZ must align their strategy or they'll both be eaten

“Rebuilding trust with the playing group is really important,” said Waugh. “That’s been quite evident in what I’ve seen come through the review already. So, a lot of work to do and our engagement, how we engage with players is critical.”
That, I think is one area that will prove more difficult than they think. One thing they may consider is to bring back players like Hooper who were let go and have a fresh start by debriefing the last twelve months. Good players were treated badly, and it has nothing to do with whether they should have gone to the RWC it has to start with some respect and decency for people who put in a lot of hard work and commitment. They can’t change the last 12 months but they can change how people are treated. That includes the full squad that went to the RWC who were cannon fodder basically. The place to start is to show they are changing and learning that people deserve decency and respect including honesty and transparency. Regaining trust must start with RA earning it.

Did you see him in the bushes attempting the snatch-and-grab when you only lost the alcohol ? the young guys he hired lacked the commitment.

The only free-flowing thing about Eddie was the bullsh#t

'He's up for it': Why ex-Boks World Cup-winner Jake White should be on the Wallabies coaching hit list

In Australia, we love a win. For example, in the America’s Cup, rugby was popular when we had good outcomes.
Why it has gone south I don’t know, but Eddie sparked some interest, and really I don’t want to say more about him as I’m sick of rubbish.
When we are winning or add least in the game people watch and are interested. We lost a lot of the NZ clashes by a narrow margin and that made it interesting. Even Dunedin this year was interesting and I don’t think it would take much to get on a roll again, but we need people who know far more than I do to get us back in the saddle.
I’ve said this so many times but the women’s game has to be funded well, look what the Matildas did this year. It just doesn’t seem to be rocket science.

Super Rugby clubs want a handout? That's a disgrace, the game is already broke

I like fishing so thats ok.

Super Rugby clubs want a handout? That's a disgrace, the game is already broke

I feel the mistakes have been so bad, that they have exposed a lot of holes in the whole rugby structure in Australia as well, painful as that is it is a golden opportunity to move forward and fix things, but the question remains will they?

'It was remarkable RA couldn't see it': Quade slams Eddie chaos, praises 'phenomenal' McKellar

Reading the article in shm, it was very respectful but seemed factual in context. Even Eddie said it was a crazy plan.
What I thought was more insightful was Rennie. I hope it goes up from here and Quade’s insight might be learned from. Moving forward with learning from the past is a must, without that it will be a waste. So much has gone wrong this year and it has shown up RA and things that need to change going back a few years.
It would be great for AR if they take the opportunity. I hope Eddie does well in Japan and now he’s gone we move on. Maybe even get some experience back to consolidate the young players.

'It was remarkable RA couldn't see it': Quade slams Eddie chaos, praises 'phenomenal' McKellar

I think policy has to be implemented in RA to standardize coach rotation on a 2 monthly basis, new Wallabies selection to start by bringing in a whole new squad of young players one week before the Bledsloe kick-off. We then change the whole RA board every month we aren’t changing coach. With the new 80 ml loan we put 60 ml into lotto tickets to raise more funding and the other 20 into fishing trips out of Darwin. The next thing is to introduce a new royal role to RA, Emperor of Rugby, we will get Eddie back to fill that role, his main job will be to maintain a constant media presence through an endless session of crazy decisions and foreign relations which he constantly denies. Next, we bring Hamish back and set him up in a seaside villa on Manus Island from here he will oversee the whole of RA but unfortunately be cut off from all means of communication.
The voices in my head please make them stop, I just want Rugby 2023 to end.

How McLennan departure could help Wallabies land ex-Ireland, All Blacks coach as Eddie's replacement

Yes past their prime and not totally committed.

CCTV catches incredible moment thieves touched the World Cup - but decided to steal whisky and laptops instead

And to quote a well-known rugby personality “And for those guys, I don’t think they were the right role models for the team going forward. Don’t get me wrong. They’re not bad guys.

“But you need guys – particularly when you’ve got a team like Australia has at the moment – you need guys who are obsessed with winning, obsessed with being good, and those three are past those stages.” Just replace guys with Hamish.
So could you get John Eales in to replace him? Someone of that stature would make a big difference and if not him look to someone equivalent, it would help to smooth the way forward with making the changes necessary at the moment.
In all honesty, I believe Hamish has meant well and Eddie as well, and sometimes a lot of bad choices get you to a point where good choices become a bit more obvious.

'Love to be involved': Larkham reacts to links to Wallabies return as Eddie replacement

It is always going to be the case that refs miss or make bad calls, they are people, and no one is perfect. The ABs could look to a US-style game that is stop-start and takes the time to analyze everything.
It’s an imperfect world and in all fairness sometimes the calls go wrong, isn’t that just the way it is and we just try and get better?
Players can impact that as well by admitting mistakes, maybe that in itself would help the standards as well. It would keep the game moving to as time going over replays gets boring
Toxic culture revealed. Not pretty and not isolated to the Welsh, it still happens everywhere to some degree time it stops.

Rugby News: World Rugby warns Kiwis' over 'robbery' whine, Barnes hits back at ABs, damning report into 'toxic' culture

Just seems like RA is the ministry for blah blah blah. Words without action are dead.
We are going to blah blah blah the blah then blah the blah to fix the blah. Makes as much sense and difference as Hamish and Phil.
I’m going to blah blah and have a beer and watch some paint dry.

'Game has spent more than we can afford': RA rules out any more Suaalii-like raids on NRL in major U-turn

Look Rocky they did, it’s in the bottom draw with the other reports now is not the time to start being sensible they have a new report to put in the draw soon, and then buy some more league players. I hope they get some wingers we could do with more wingers. After that, they should see if they can get Eddie back as it would probably put Union on the front pages in Australia.

Key hire that must happen BEFORE Wallabies can recruit new coach, why Brumbies are stalling on RA plan

If you look carefully out the door you can just see Eddie in the bushes trying to execute the smash-and-grab.

Giving RA the keys especially Hamish is a bit like leaving Yogi Bear in charge of the picnic baskets

Key hire that must happen BEFORE Wallabies can recruit new coach, why Brumbies are stalling on RA plan

He could be a really great player and seems to go looking for the ball when he can. RA will do what they want to do and have not shown good choices over the last 12 months in my opinion.
When it comes down to these decisions perhaps players need to look after themselves and their future as RA find their way in getting their act together.
Watching him this year he has a go and has a skill level that allows him to do that.
