First things first: the purpose of this piece is not to denigrate Dylan Edwards. As someone with the physique of Mark Tookey, the composure…
Jurgen Klopp. Pep Guardiola. Thomas Tuchel. Ole Gunnar Solskjær. Spot the odd man out. These four coaches share four Champions League crowns, four Premier…

COVID-safe. I love it.
A tactical dwarf in the land of giants: Why United will never flourish under Ole Gunnar Solskjær
Sounds like a plan 👍

Carlos Queiroz?

Definitely. Despite the eye-watering resources at their disposal, the entire Premier League is way behind with incorporating that sort of position (so crucial in Germany in particularly but a rarity in England).
Solskjær (given his obvious connection with the players and media) could be a really effective coach under a technician like that.

Yeah he definitely looked tired by the end at Spurs. I reckon he would’ve taken the United gig only because the offer would be so hard for anyone to refuse, but it wouldn’t have been ideal at that time (and possibly yet another failed appointment).

My pleasure: Allegri in the summer of 2019 (there was no rush to appoint Solskjær in March given no serious competition for his signature). Then the out-of-work Pochettino between Dec 2019 and Jan 2021.

The word “available” implies a club of Man United’s stature couldn’t have prized contracted managers out of their posts, which is a view I don’t share.

“Good players make good coaches” — Maradona, Lampard, Keane, Shearer, and countless others must have missed this memo.
“How can you deduce that Ole is a coaching dwarf compared to the others” — the litany of tangible examples supplied in my article.

Hundred per cent. The timing never quite lined up.

If I trained with Manchester United every day for two years, I would improve immeasurably as a footballer. Would I be good enough for the starting XI? Almost certainly not (although if Luke Shaw can resurrect his career, maybe I could too).
I also don’t share your perception of the Old Trafford dugout as a place for on-the-job training. Maybe I’ll tidy up my CV and email Ed Woodward and ask him for the gig, with promises of improvement.

I agree that United have improved massively under him, and I agree he has improved massively as a manager.
Neither of those things formed the focus of my article.

I’m not prescribing “you can’t say” like Amer is.
Solskjær supporters are more than welcome to defend mediocrity, and Manchester United fans are more than welcome to continue watching dust accumulate in the trophy cabinet.

No but he can appoint Teddy Sheringham as his number two for the next best thing 😂
Serious answer though: Poch and Allegri were both available for a long time and clearly had worthy CVs. The cupboard is pretty bare now and a change would be ill-advised so early in the season (Madrid’s uninspired appointment of Ancelotti underlines the lack of elite managers available).

How about Kjetil Knutsen — he coached the Eliteserien champions last season, and apparently winning a Norwegian title is a strong enough CV for Manchester United in 2021 👍

I’d love to see Levy stick to his guns when it comes to the sale of Kane. He’d expect Spurs to honour every last penny of his six-year deal — and the club is entitled to expect him to hold up his end of the bargain, too.

I’m not suggesting Zidane would be a suitable replacement, only that he’s the sort of vanity signing the Glazers have a track record of making.

Your comment is full of truisms that are impossible to disagree with, but none address my argument: that Manchester United cannot contend for a title with a manager as under-qualified as Solskjær in charge.

Desperation to keep up with the Premier League is a weak justification for their behaviour.
