Interesting comment given that Folau played for the Giants… might want to check your facts before sprouting (no doubt intentional) rubbish…

Do we even want the Gold Coast Suns to succeed?

Of course, Smash Mouth were covering a Monkees song – which may still be pertinent, given that Fitzroy were once known as the Gorillas…

Four hot takes from AFL Round 15

To quote Greg Champion…. ‘Jimmy Jess, now he’s the best, looks good in makeup and a sexy dress…’

AFL Power Rankings 2018: Round 4

Interestingly enough, that would be the Sydney Swans, who were originally South Melbourne, who were a foundation club of the (then) VFL. Hasn’t seemed to hurt them in the long term.

Time for the NRL to expand and grow the game

Good comment about the Brisbane early 2000s midfield – the one that always seems forgotten at the same time is Luke Power – he was far more than average too!

I'm tipping Geelong to win the flag - and not just because of Gary

I think if GWS come out with an instant Bonar, a lot of sides will stop and take notice…

The biggest question marks hanging over GWS Giants

Given his potential convict status, if Stokes does get sent down under, he may have to play for the Aussies!

Five talking points from Australia's first Ashes Test victory

Congratulations to Dennis on his 10 years of loyal service to the Carlton Football Club. It’s probably agreed that he was not the most highly skilled player at the club (although I do remember some fine long range goals over his career), but any skill deficiencies were more than made up for by his tenacity and heart of a lion (or more importantly, heart of a Blue!) and by always putting the team first.

A tribute to Dennis Armfield – Carlton's ultimate clubman

If all 3 Qld teams ended up in the 2nd tier competition, it wouldn’t kill off interest in the state – they will still most likely win Origin again!!

Promoting relegation in rugby league, or how to untie the Sydney Knot

a couple of years under Bolts will sort him out!

Six quick takes from AFL Round 16

I laugh at Figjam’s choice too Birdman – but just think how scarily good the Brisbane early 2000s side would have been with Bucks in there too!

Nathan Buckley should go and Eddie McGuire should follow him

I think the most unsuccessful ‘hitman’ of recent times was that soft guy Scott Burns from Collingwood. In 2002 he smashed a shoulder into Michael Voss’s head only for Vossy to end up setting up a goal for Simon Black and letting Burns know all about it. Then not to be outdone, in 2003 Burns put a cheap shot on Jono Brown at the first bounce (which was no less a dog act than Yeates’s hit on Dermie in 1989), only for JB to get up & help knock the Pies off again!

Comparing dynasties: Who were the greatest irritants?

I think that most could probably name Carlton in 1999 & Brisbane in 2001… eventually…

Comparing dynasties: Who were the greatest irritants?

I’ll pretend to be Mattyb… blah blah blah…. Saints were cruising… blah blah blah… Carlton are rubbish… blah blah blah get rid of the Carlton board…

Oh, and the Dogs were killed by the umps against the Weagles..

Stevie J special and Jez Cameron's six appeal conquer Collingwood

I’m not a rugby league expert by any means, but as a casual viewer if that bump is worth 2 weeks, I’d rather watch the netball…. you see more physical contact in a Firebirds v Swifts game

Sam Burgess to fight charge at judiciary

I thought Jarrod Witts a little unlucky to miss out – he absolutely destroyed the Hawks at the stoppages, and his ruck work was the catalyst for continual Suns forward forays.

Gold Coast Suns vs Hawthorn Hawks highlights: AFL live scores, blog

Being a Blues supporter displaced in Qld, after watching tonight they can ditch Thomas, Armfield & White and start playing kids – waste of space the lot of them!

Carlton vs Richmond: Opening Night Forecast

Excellent – that means Carlton are in too!!

Enough positivity! Who makes way for the AFL’s rising middle class?

I am interested as to how Tom Mitchell will go this year. I am a fan of his (although being a Blues supporter I would have liked to see him head our way!), but coming from Sydney where he was probably the 4th midfielder, to the Hawks where he is now arguably number 1 and receiving a tag each week – can his skill set still produce the output he showed with the Swans?

2017 AFL preview series: Hawthorn Hawks - 9th

Maybe you can lend your senip eguh to Ussie – he can’t play spin with a bat, he might have more luck with that!

Khawaja to be dropped for India Tests, with spin his undoing

Hello Mr Common Sense! Thank you for this.

The salary cap game needs more ladders than Snakes

Come on Clarkey, if you’re going to come in and defend yourself, you’ve got to be a bit more inventive with your user name!

Revisiting my XI non-bold predictions for Australia's summer of cricket

I guess a lot of times once it gets past the first round it becomes a bit more ‘horses for courses’ – targeting a player for a specific need for a lot of clubs, which means the predictions from the ‘experts’ can go right out the window.

I am a Carlton supporter living on the Sunshine Coast, and the weekend before last was able to watch the reigning premiers in a full scale practice match. I am no footy boffin, but I think the Doggies have struck gold again! The competitiveness & skills shown by Tim English (not sure the exact draft pick but I’m pretty sure he was the Dogs #1) gave every indication that within 3 years time he could well be one of the best ruckmen in the competition.

Carlton's best 22 for 2017
