Agree 100% with you MDS – the skill level was OK, but the endeavour cannot be questioned – a great start.

Oh, and being a Blues fan, it may well be our best win of 2017!

Carlton give Collingwood the Blues in an Ikon-ic lock out

And of course MF, they didn’t.And I have to admit I was a sceptic.

24,500 in & 1000 or more people turned away is a pretty good start. Sure the skill level wasn’t sensational, but the endeavour & commitment was outstanding! I’ll be watching again for sure.

But on the other hand, being a Blues supporter, this may well be the best win we have this year!

Get on board AFL Women's, or miss out on something great

Mitchell may lack leg speed, but he has plenty of knee speed…

Just one good reason why the West Coast Eagles are my tip for the flag

The easiest way to fix number 2 is to pension off that doddering old fool Rabbits Warren – he should have been done 5 years ago. Gus seems to be obligated to trade off petty confrontations with him – no Rabbits might get Gus back to the insightful commentator he once was.

Dear Santa, here's my rugby league Christmas wish list

I have to say I was on the fence with the 3rd man up situation – until (and I am certainly no Dockers fan) Aaron Sandilands copped a one week suspension for rough conduct against third man Ben Griffiths early in 2016. Two up in a ruck contest is an AFL tradition & it should stay that way. Sorry Danger & Hodgey, but you’re going to have to get easy kicks some other way next year!

Three's a crowd: Removing the third man up is a good call

Targa, I may be wrong but I think I read recently that Sodhi was unavailable due to injury.

Facing Black Caps after whitewash presents real difficulty for Australia

Chris, as a Blues supporter you were my favourite – amazing, and then amazingly frustrating at times, but you sure gave us a ride! I was genuinely disappointed when you left us and I am sorry for you that the Richmond venture didn’t work out.
At the end of the day, your health is more important than chasing a bag of wind around a paddock. Good luck to you – I hope things work out and you can enjoy life again.

Chris Yarran and Richmond part ways

I’m pretty happy with that team, with one minor change:

Wade/Handscomb

Sure, Wade is the first pick keeper for Victoria, but thinking back in time, Ian Healy had only played 7 first class games and was considered the back up to Peter Anderson when he got selected for Australia, and that punt didn’t seem to go too badly.

along with his reputation of being one of the better players of spin going around and a tour of India round the corner, it has to be worth a shot (this is with no disrespect to Peter Nevill, whos is doing an adequate job – Handscomb provides more versatility, and a luxury batting at 7 in my opinion).

Up to six changes for Australia's Test team at Adelaide - who's in?

Why not Handscomb? Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Ian Healy pretty much understudy to Peter Anderson at Queensland when he was selected for his first Test?

Young Australian batsmen being ignored by Test selectors

Thanks Penster, until one of the convicted 34 can come out & satisfactorily explain why the injection program was never mentioned to ASADA in the testing, they all stand as complicit & guilty.

Good call, Jobe - handing back the Brownlow was the only sensible thing to do

And they both wear the same suits and haircuts that they had in 2012, and get Swanny to present them for more authenticity!

Jobe Watson makes his decision on 2012 Brownlow Medal

Probably in 2015 when they were beaten by the Dogs by 10 points!

2017 AFL Fixture: Round 1 revealed, Good Friday footy given green light

I would venture to suggest that the AFL have the Cats v Hawks pencilled in for Easter Monday as a stand alone game. It’s just been fortune that Round 1 for the past few years has coincided with Easter.

Liam Jones perhaps??

AFL trade rumours: The two big deals holding back a flood

Macca, I guess they could always send us Eddie back!!

AFL trades: Carlton’s rebuild gets a shot in the arm from unlikely sources

Being a Blues fan of obviously the same vintage as you Col, Percy was the Harry Madden of the 60s! And I remember wearing my Carlton guernsey with Crossa’s number 17 with pride to the 1970 GF. He was a great entertainer indeed.

I’m also impressed you gave Georgie Bisset his full title too!

How to cheat the salary cap.
Sign your best 4 players to 1 year contracts at purportedly half their last year’s salary – paying way under market rate and opening up $$$$$ to poach more top players!

Thanks for the heads up Hal – had not been aware of the Footyology program. A lot of laughs – I’ll be a regular viewer from now on!

AFL Power Rankings: Round 11

MF – Huzzah!! Finally a voice of reason in this whole storm in a teacup. As much as I have detested over time the likes of Selwood & Shuey getting away with what they you to milk frees, as long as it is not illegal it’s up to the tackler to work it out. As to being a blight on the game, I’m sure some of Dermie’s antics during his playing time would probably be considered a blight on the game these days!

Is 'ducking' really a blight on the game?

It wasn’t that good Dal if you were a teenage Carlton supporter at the game! Of course, with retrospect it is a fabulous kick

The seven best goals kicked after the siren

Only early days I know, but from what I’ve seen so far, both Weitering & Schache could be mentioned in this conversation in the not too distant future.

Ranking the AFL young guns

Very sad you didn’t include Setanta O’Hailpin in your list Cam!

Gary Ablett was the wrong man for the Gold Coast Suns

Good write up Brinnx – and as a Blues fan of 50 years standing, I’m encouraged by what I see under Bolts. I am looking forward to seeing the likes of Silvagni & McKay later in the year. I’m not sure about the sneaky tenner this year – but if only Levi could start scoring as regularly as Jamie Vardy I’d be thrilled!

Is the Carlton rebuild a miracle or a mirage?

As a Carlton supporter, I’d agree with the Betts one; Jarrad is a different story, however. I am really glad for him, going as well as he is. But after 12 years of being continually frustrated by his injuries ruining seasons, or crazy brain snaps & getting himself suspended just when he was getting going, I’m sure him leaving didn’t put utter devastation into the hearts of the Blues faithful (those of us who are still around that is!)

Waite can lead North Melbourne to the flag

I’m in full agreement with you on this Dingo – and I think I did hear someone on the weekend suggest the deliberate rushed behind may at some stage be looked at to be brought in to line. The umps in general do a pretty good job.

On a side note, however, the free paid against Levi Casboult against the Doggies on Saturday night for ‘throwing the ball back a bit too hard’ was I thought a little precious!

AFL umps, it's time to pull your head in
