Paul it appears that we do get to see the Bombers again this year on a Friday night… against those perennial easybeats Hawthorn… and the way the season is looking, both the Anzac & Dreamitme games should be riveting viewing…

Is this the golden age of egalitarianism in the AFL?

But I’m a Carlton fan – I demand results NOW!! (tongue planted firmly in cheek…)

No Lion, the Suns are now Queensland's premier AFL side

‘On Friday night the Tigers played a desperate Collingwood team and while the game was atrocious throughout….’

There, I fixed it for you..

Hysteria, AFL style: Round 2 wrap

Excellent article SFGC – as an ex-Victorian now entrenched on the Sunshine Coast, it has been interesting to watch the plight of the two Qld clubs as they continually are largely ignored by the administration & derided by the football public in general.

One thing – ‘However the number of mistakes made on game day is the only consistent aspect for the Lions – there cannot be a club in the AFL that shoots themselves in the foot as consistently with skill errors.’ You obviously haven’t watched my lowly Blues in the first two games – basic skill errors cost them the game against Richmond; and continual turnovers, especially when in attacking situations, cruelled any chance of getting close to the Swans.

No Lion, the Suns are now Queensland's premier AFL side

Thank you so much for the Richmond/Collingwood thoughts PD! I was saying that to my mates on the weekend & they were looking at me like I was from another planet.

AFL power rankings: Round 2

Anything you can do to get Ablett & Fyfe to Carlton would be greatly appreciated Josh!

The Roar's Top 50 AFL players: 1-10

“He has had an ordinary couple of years now”

Strangely, I thought he was OK in 2014, missing a third of the season and still running 2nd to Priddis in the Brownlow (if you discount Nat’s suspended 25 votes)

The Roar's Top 50 AFL players: 1-10

Similarly, number 9 in the list can be tagged with a similar moniker… Oh wait, it was just an unusual running style wasn’t it…. (sorry Nat, I didn’t really try & get that Brownlow off you…)

The Roar's Top 50 AFL players: 1-10

Wouldn’t it just be easier on all the Richmond supporters if they just went back to finishing ninth every year? It takes away so much pressure…

The pressure is already getting to Damien Hardwick

Having watched at close range the agony, heartbreak and despair Richmond supporters have gone through over the past 3 years, maybe it just might be for the best if they went back to finishing ninth all the time again …

Tiger time is coming, but not in 2016

It would have been close between Boyce & Zampa, but I think that Zampa’s ability to headbutt balls onto the stumps to cause run outs may have got him over the line…

Nevill the shock inclusion as Australia announce World T20 squad

I look back at all the commenters last week following the Hodge/Lewis disgraces who were saying that ‘It’s OK, the Hawks have only got the Giants & the Demons in the next two weeks.’ Imagine if this result was to keep Hawthorn out of a top 4 position…

[Highlights] Giants rally to upset Hawks

The article mentions re: Cotchin – “He’s fast on his way to earning a reputation as a flat-track bully” – I would have thought that he has already got there! His output against the more respected teams is, on average, quite poor. Just as an aside (although I am not a Richmond supporter) he lost a lot of respect from me for refusing to uphold a burgeoning tradition at the club to adopt the number 17 guernsey when accepting the captaincy role. To me this is the mark of a person who puts more importance in himself rather than the team.

The fault in their stars: Richmond FC's bleak state of affairs

Or maybe he’d even get a game at the Broncos Wayne??

A history of violence: The legend of Jonathan Brown

Maybe it would work better if the top 4 teams in any season (i.e., the teams which contest the preliminary finals) were excluded from recruiting through free agency? To me, although I can understand the viewpoint of players getting a chance to play in a successful team, it seems these ‘successful’ teams don’t seem to be changing! The free agency system completely undermines the concept of a draft to even out the competition.

Fast footy delivers the goods in Round 1

All your arguments are very well put together Richard – my one concern is that you seem far too eloquent to be a Collingwood supporter…

Ignorance isn't innocence, but let's give Bombers the benefit of the doubt

A simple fix to the above – exclude the top 4 teams from recruiting players through free agency. Since it’s inception it has done nothing for the competition except bolster the top teams to the detriment of the lower sides.

Rosey's 2015 AFL preview: Hawthorn

A slight exaggeration Rick with the ‘Likewise with the Lions, but they also had a significant advantage having picking up a lot of Fitzroy’s good players in 96 when they merged.’ line.
When you look at the 8 players the new Lions took from Fitzroy, really only 2 made any impact:

Chris Johnston – 1997-2007; 205 games
Jarrod Molloy – 1997-2000; 61 games
Scott Bamford – 1997-1998; 24 games
Brad Boyd – 1997-1999; 15 games
John Barker – 1997; 8 games
Nick Carter – 1997-1998; 5 games
Scott Clayton – 1997-1998; 5 games
Simon Hawking – 1997; 0 games

I think the Lions rise may have been more to do with good recruiting subsequent to 1997, and the abilities of Leigh Matthews & his coaching staff to get the best out of the playing group.

Rosey's 2015 AFL preview: Geelong Cats

I would suggest that the AFL gets around it by the fact he was no longer playing AFL. The offences occurred in September/October, whereas although he was technically under contract at the AFL, his season was over by the end of August, & he had already indicated by that time he had retired from the AFL to have a crack at Rugby Union.

Karmichael Hunt pleads guilty to possession; fined $2,500

Andy, to quote a famous movie, maybe Hird could try the ‘It’s just the vibe of the thing’ defence….

Hird considering High Court appeal

Is there a feeling of irony involved if Hird was to sue the EFC? Especially when they are headed by Paul ‘When In Doubt, Sue Everybody’ Little…

Hird considering High Court appeal

He’s a bit pudgy thought…

The irony of Warner’s comment shows that it’s time to grow up

With Blaine Johnson already on Carlton’s list – surely this would be the first time 2 Blaine’s have been on a club roster!
