And hows that Tahs prediction working out for Spiro now ?

SPIRO: OMG, the Waratahs look like Super Rugby contenders!

Boks have alot of injuries at the moment, especially in the forwards, but if they can get the majority fit in time, i will back them to beat everyone in 2015. Only NZ or SA can take that cup in 2015, i’d put my house on that.

Are the NZ sides really in trouble?

Common Sense, this is true about Smith – but he did have the best players on the planet to work with. White took a team of nobody’s at the Brumbies and almost took the title, from nothing.

He took the Boks in 2004 – who were a disgrace from 2000-2003, and turned them into champions.

Hes doing a similar job at the Sharks, if you havent noticed the scorelines they are winning by, with a few springboks, Id say the man is pretty good – but theres no way to say who is the best, unless someone comes along and makes a team like Georgia win the IRB World cup…

Sharks vs Waratahs: Super Rugby live scores, blog

it was clear when they were 13 up and opted for a kick from 10 meters out instead of pushing for a certain lineout win and possible drive over for the bonus point – that they had gone into defensive mode – which is not smart against the chiefs.

Chiefs draw 34-34 against Bulls

Yawn – same old same old, Aus has the best teams…. Then they tour NZ and SA and find themselves mid table. Aus has 3 good teams, Tahs Brumbies Reds, but that is no better than the 3 good SA teams Sharks Stormers and Bulls. Cheetahs did well against the Reds – And the Cheetahs are SA’s worst team. Perhaps keep the champagne on ice until the end of the season ?

Crusaders' tight rugby win over Stormers

Burger once had a severe neck break, and was advised against playing rugby – he came back and continued to pound it out at the highest level. Then he picked up this illness that could have cost him his life, I heard that he had stopped breathing – And here he is, back at it again. His father told a story on an advert in SA that when Schalk was a kid, he rode a mountain bike race, fell and broke his bike – he picked it up, ran with it on his shoulder and still won. Theres few words that can describe this guy’s heart.

Crusaders' tight rugby win over Stormers

WHY was this not a problem last year when australian teams were given the advantage ?

SPIRO: Super Rugby format gives South African sides unfair advantage

What a mouthwatering prospect we have coming up… Steyn vs Johnson, with the batting lineups of either side, i think its steyn that will be left smiling.

Steyn to get better warns Proteas captain

Regardless, SA had not played since Dec and Aus had played up until 31 Jan… not so ?

Australia vs South Africa: Wrap from Port Elizabeth

a month before ? Aus came from England having played until 31 Jan, SA last played India in Dec ? a month off can make a difference.

South Africa vs Australia: Second Test, Day four live scores

possibly, can we say the best of his era ?

South Africa vs Australia: Second Test, Day four live scores

none of the proteas had played any cricket for a while, they were caught cold in first test.

Will retire one day as the best of all time

South Africa vs Australia: Second Test, Day four live scores

a good read boys, however, let me make a few additions / corrections.

Johannesburg – traffic, more traffic, and if you get bored in traffic, dont worry, someone will hijack you soon enough.
Durban – too hot to think, too hot to play rugby
Bloemfontein – brandy n coke town, special fridges at the back of the churches where you can leave your bottle.
cape town – best city in sa, stormers, best team on the planet. Schalk Burger – grootste ballas in die boland

Biltongbek and Harry Provide talk South Africa's Super Rugby tribes

anyone gets a single tackle wrong on the day – But 9/10 times I think Alberts would flatten Read. I dont think there are any SA forwards that tackle as hard as he does, ive watched some of his highlights and figured out why – as he makes the hit he seems to get a leg forward and on the ground, anchoring and pushing a low centre of gravity through the man. He also seems to get under the arm and drive upwards. very effective… you only need to youtube some of his hits to understand.

When the Boks were still playing a combination of Burger Rossouw Spies – I said that we needed to reunite the Stormers loose trio which dominated in S14 that year, and when Burger returns in 2014 – we will have that

Louw, Burger, Vermeulen – With Alberts and Arno Botha off the bench.

SA will be more competitive against NZ next year, once the locking pair of Etzebeth and Pieter Steph is formed,
with the return of Burger, Backline to get Goosen which will make a difference too.

The 2013 world rugby XXIII

I dont think the Boks need to adapt to the faster game, They wont beat NZ that way – they need to slow the game down and force NZ to play their game.

The 2013 world rugby XXIII

Here is my biased team – since i have not watched enough of the European teams, i havent included too many of their stars.
But a mostly RC based team would be

Ayerza
Biz
Malherbe
Eben
Whitelock
Pocock
Burger
Read

du Preez
Cooper
Habana
de Villiers
Conrad Smith
Ben Smith
willie le Roux

My international rugby team of 2013

Agree with Habana over Savea – while savea has exceptional finishing, in the ellis park test he was smoked twice by habs, Habs also smoked folau and north on seperate occasions – he was simply the oustanding 11 this year.

My international rugby team of 2013

it was played in port elizabeth. i flew 800km to be there – what a final it was.

South Africa pip NZ in rugby sevens final

I beg to differ. I felt that SA were dishing out some of their own in the first test against NZ, until Biz went off the first time.
In SA, We had to beat you at your game – and nobody beats NZ at their game. Were it not for the Biz send off, perhaps the boks would have lost within 7, and only have required a win at ellis park… which would have changed the game plan and allowed SA to play away from the ABs strength, and towards their own. We dont deny that NZ are #1, nobody does – but SA have closed the gap somewhat and are finally moving forward with their game.

Mission accomplished for Heyneke Meyer

South Africa manages to sell out stadiums for Internationals, Super Rugby and Currie Cup. Theres huge following and TV coverage for Varsity league and even school boy rugby. Ellis Park SA vs NZ was a pretty unreal atmosphere.

Six Nations can't cut the mustard on the world rugby stage

I recall 1 loss to Ireland being where John Smit was told to speak to his team on the tryline, and whilst doing so the Irish were allowed to take a quick tap and score.

I also recall SA’s only loss to Wales being on the back of some major discourse in camp SA.

Regardless, the stats are still heavy in favour of South Africa against all the celtic nations.

Six Nations can't cut the mustard on the world rugby stage

You miss the point – Comparing hte level of SANZAR to the level of 6N. Results are evident, SA NZ and Aus have consistently beaten european nations since rugby started.

Six Nations can't cut the mustard on the world rugby stage

I think that lesser teams maybe forfeit depth for the wallabies, but cohesion and combinations would be formed. If you have 2 men for each position per franchise, that would be 6 in every position for the national team… that is enough depth.

South Africas case is slightly different, where we do require a 6th team to unearth talent from a relatively untapped source. The Eastern Cape was a fountain for top rugby players in the 80s, but the sport has lost ground along with the city since.

As for the article, spot on – the 6N has been behind the level of the RC since the Moses was playing in the israelites first XV. The formula is – they need more of their players to forfeit the cash, and get into Super Rugby teams.

Six Nations can't cut the mustard on the world rugby stage

thats the captain BB, the coach and a large quantity of the populace feel differently.

I thought Australia were good, and Wales were beaten by the better side.

I also thought that a SH referee would have blown wales out of the game for ruck infringements.
