Hope it doesn’t happen but who would take over as skipper if Paine had to miss a Test or two, considering Cummins and Head are the co-vice-captains? And would Wade take the gloves or does Carey come into the squad?

Left right out. Lealiifano’s a much better bet at 10. Matt Toomua and Reece Hodge are excellent back-ups. No need to put an idiot there, i.e. O’Connor, Beale or Cooper.

Can’t really argue with your assessment, Ronan, but I think there’ll be some discussion about the two contentious pace spots, Pattinson/Starc/Siddle/Hazelwood. Who actually picks the team on this tour, anyway? It’s chnaged over the years.
Fair enough Pattinson, but Starc would hate sitting on the bench, he’s not used to being left out. Hazelwood might just get the nod over Siddle. Labuschagne could play a decent role in this series. If he can get enough runs early on, and Paine gives him a decent bowl, he could be good for … I’ll stretch it to about 15 wickets.

Haylett-Petty might get the job, with Banks on the bench. Or Banks fullback, with DHP on the wing. Reece Hodge should be in the side at 13 but can play just about anywhere in the backline. Kurtley Beale, 10, 12 or 15. Fine players all, don’t need Folau.

Perth Scorchers will have to defy adversity yet again this summer, with injuries and international call-ups meaning they are likely to have only 11 fit players to choose from for their Big Bash League opener against Sydney Sixers on December 23.
The Scorchers will be forced to call-up replacement players in order to name a full 13-man squad for their first game, with wicketkeeper Sam Whiteman, young all-rounder Cam Green and fast bowlers Jason Behrendorff and Nathan Coulter-Nile all sidelined with injury.
Perth’s 18-man squad has been further depleted by the loss of Cameron Bancroft, Shaun Marsh and Mitch Marsh to the Test team.
