Massive loss for Penrith. At least they’ve got plenty of motivation to win one last time.

Rejigged Aussie batting line-up fails again as top-order collapse puts Black Caps on track for drought-breaking Test win

Inglis just hit a match winning shield century and is the white ball incumbent.

I think there’s a bit of pressure on Carey’s spot. If Inglis starts next season on fire, I know who I’d pick.

Marnus regains form but Australia's ongoing middle-order woes put heat on Carey as Kiwis claw back into Test

I do hope CA push the first 3-4 rounds of the shield next season as a priority for choosing the squad for the Indian series. All incumbents and hopefulls should be playing.

If there’s some white ball commitments send an A side led by Maxwell.

One of the great bottle jobs from England. India were 7/177 over 170 runs behind.

Keep backing yourself lads.

New Bazball, same England: Tourists throw away India advantage with classic Pommy collapse

Thats 100% my point. Batting is risk v reward. The odds in that situation given the bowler and the variable bounce made that a low percentage play. There were half a dozen better options he could and should have taken.

You combine that with his reputation as one of the best of his generation and the match situation and its just dumb cricket.

Poms defend Root amid furious reaction to 'stupidest shot in England Test cricket history' as Bazball under fire again

Its a just a dumb shot. When Root is playing that shot well its to good length balls on pitches with consistent bounce. That was a half volley in India. Hit it through the covers.

The whole Bazball idea came into being because England lack Test quality bats. Go hard, score quick runs, put the bowlers off because you don’t have the technical ability to bat all day. Now the one bloke who actually was Test quality is batting like a muppet.

I was certainly shocked. Assumed Cummins was a certainty and if not him Head.

It’ll be hard to captain with all the covid restrictions. How’d do you plan with your bowler without the batsmen knowing? Will they give him a walkey talkey 😂

COVID chaos rocks Aussie camp again as Marsh faces tricky captain assignment after positive test

Feels similar to the Don’t Remove Sachin period when India fough against DRS without any logical argument.

I wonder if when the current greats retire the next gen who grew up on IPL will be more interested in playing day/night tests?

Day-night Tests make dollars and sense but India’s reluctance means pink ball snookered by red

I dont mind this option. Bancroft and co. are placeholders at best. This way you get Green back in who’s better than the lot of them. Maybe Smith will start scoring runs again.

My thoughts as well. A bit embarrassing if they get rolled after complaining about the strength of the oppo.

'Seminal moment for Test cricket': Alarm bells as South Africa names seven new faces in second-rate NZ tour squad

I’m more than a bit concerned about the attack. When things are going their way its all well and good but when a partnership forms the only backup plan seems to be Pat go get a wicket. Three times Pak batsmen were dominating, Pat broke all three partnerships. Doesn’t seem sustainable.

Think they need to have a serious look at Starc. They could carry his poor performances when Hoff and Cummins were the worlds two best quicks but Hoff has clearly lost a step. Can still strangle the opposition but lacks penetration. Looks even worse when Lyon gets taken down like he did in the 2nd innings.

Sooner they blood a new strike bowler the better. I’d take Richo to NZ and leave Starc at home.

Test Mortem: Age just a number for 'Dads Army' Aussies, Cummins the ultimate skeleton key, MCG from worst to best

Cue the sky is falling comments.

The reality is Holder and Mayers bowl 120kph trash and can’t hold a bat.

It’s not much of a bar for the replacements to clear.

Nice change. Usually we let our young stars go and sign journeymen as replacements.

'I don't understand': England great stumped by Warner 'friction', Lyon's huge 'top two all-time openers' call

Sure the 4th Test in India bloated averages. Thats on India playing silly buggers. Trav made 90 in that same innings…

No idea what point your trying to make with the Ashes. Runs dont count when you’re trying to draw a game? There’s less pressure? The Labs-Marsh pship retained the Ashes

They’re both critical to the side. Its a 3 man batting line-up at the moment with Warner a liability, Smith looking past it and little substance from 6, 7, jack.

Test cricket summer random predictions: Head to surpass top duo, Lyon on the hunt, Warner's farewell and who'll replace him

India average: Marnus 41 Head 47

Ashes average: Marnus 32, Head 36

Hardly worlds apart. Harsh to call Marnus a flat track bully. Both well ahead of Smith now though.

Test cricket summer random predictions: Head to surpass top duo, Lyon on the hunt, Warner's farewell and who'll replace him

This summer was a great opportunity to play another split series with NZ. Instead of WI play NZ two here, two there like they did last time.

But there’s probably a lot of other things at play. No doubt NZ’s own domestic t20 comp would be running then so hard to lay the blame solely with Aus.

Do Australians love Test cricket or just watching the baggy green side win at home pretty much all the time?

96 from Green today.

Selectors have rocks in their head if they think Marsh is a better option. Let him play BBL in prep for the t20 world cup.

Ponting anoints Warner successor, but insists Green must 'bide his time' to make Test squad

Dearden will come into his own once Chad is gone and they hand him full control. So often Cows are on the front foot the ball hits Chad and the momentum dies.

Knowing the Cows though they’ll punt Dearden and sign another journeyman.

Smart Signings: Should the Panthers cut ties with Luai - and could it set up a superstar return?

Not surprising. SA cricket is in all sorts and havs been for sometime.

Aus, Eng, Ind will always play tests. As long as the next tier Pak, SL, NZ have periods of strength the game will be fine.

The death of Test cricket, and the Australian summer, is nigh

It says a bit about where both teams are at if a 2-2 draw at home is a win for the English and a loss for the Aussies. Sure Aus should be disappointed blowing 2-0 lead but on reflection they would have taken that with both hands at the start of the series. This result is still equal worst for the English in 2 decades.

That said I think there’s plenty to work on. I don’t think Cummins as captain is sustainable. He’s the best fast bowler in the game, let someone else worry about the tactics. Hazlewood looks cooked. Carey disappointing again after a bright start. Obviously need a few top order bats as well.
