Honestly I’d swap Murphy for Green and move Marsh down to 7. Unless the pitch is bone dry how much is Cummins actually going to bowl Murphy? May as well have 5 quicks and Head/Twitch twins if needed.

Maxwell smart left-field option worth considering for a spin if Aussies want to strengthen lower order all round

Nicely poised. England with both eyes on the weather. Days 3 and 5 could well be wash outs, as well as the final session on Day 4.

Marsh madness! Former whipping boy to the rescue with brutal ton as Wood five-for routs Aussies

Its a remarkable turn around. No doubt.

But it needs to be put in perspective. They’ve played NZ twice, a significantly weakened Pakistan, and South Africa.

The “horror run” included an away Ashes tour and 2x Indian series.

If they beat Aus 4-1 in the Ashes then sure…but until then…

Stokes, Mooney crowned world's leading cricketers after stellar years of success

Picked Steve Waugh at 6. His seam up was useful early in his career and his Ashes batting was far too domimant to be left out. With Waugh, Smith and AB there’s enough bowling there. Fairly Aus dominant list but I think most get it on merit. MJ was the only one picked on emotion, his bowling in that Ashes series is still my favourite thing to watch on Youtube.

JWH is a cat and a cheap shot merchant.

Hass and Taukeiaho are in a different class. Haas would be top 10 for mine with Taukeiaho, Klem and J Brom in that 11-20 bracket.

The Roar's NRL top 50 players: 30-21

Get him injured in a pre-season game and medically retire him.

What to do with Darius Boyd?

Remember Sids hatty at the Gabba? Hit Broad dead in front for the last one and he reviewed. Ha one of the greats.

Peter Siddle announces retirement from international cricket

Having watched test cricket in all bar the new Perth stadium, the Gabba is the worst venue in Australia to watch international cricket. That is the reason no one turns up. Using the ashes as an excuse to justify that the Gabba isnt that bad is laughable.

If you want to actually see the game its $100+ a ticket. Don’t even think about buying a cheapie then sneaking into the empty expensive seats after lunch, some GI Joe wannabee will send you packing. Want a beer? 10 bucks. Want it cold? Sorry but hey at least the pies are cold.

Instead of that how about we head down to one of the dozens of quality pubs that are selling schooners of crafties for less than you’d pay for a platsic cup of warm XXXX? Sit in a beautiful beer garden, instead of a concrete bowl. Not get patted down, forcibly moved on and just generally harrassed by some mug with a god complex.

You and the rest of the clowns slagging off the locals for not turning up should go find out what your missing out on. Enjoy the privilege of a Gabba trip for yourself.

Strip international cricket from the Gabba

He makes his judgement as soon as he waves 6 again. Changing that judgement was against the law.

You can argue anything, Gould and co make a living out of it. Doesn’t make it right.

A rational review of Sunday’s refereeing dramas

Section 16 clause 9 changing decision.

They are allowed to change for foul play (why I said it was irrelevant in this instance).

A rational review of Sunday’s refereeing dramas

Under the laws Cummins can’t change that decision (foul play irrelelvant). You are entering the dreaded “Gould common sense” state of thinking if you condone Cummins actions. Whether 6 again was the correct call he was required under the laws of the game to stick with his decision. Changing his decision had a blatant and detrimental impact on the raiders chances of winning.

What’s far more concerning is Annersley and his refs dont appear aware of this law. Surely that should be the major focus of this incident.

A rational review of Sunday’s refereeing dramas

Under the laws Cummins can’t change his ruling (unless foul play which is clearly irrelevant). Yeah Roosters fans would have felt hard done by had the raiders scored (assuming 6 again was the wrong call, havent bothered watching the replay) but 50/50s happen all the time. What doesnt happen and shouldnt is refs changing decisions during play.

Next year will the game be in a state where refs are allowed to flip flop with every 50/50? Main ref says play on, then knock on because the pocket ref pulls him up, then changes back based on the touchies input?

What’s most concerning is Annersley doesnt appear to understand the laws himself.

Cmon mate

Trainer farce was a 12 point switch. 6 again fair chance raiders score with roosters on the ropes.

Yeah the raiders clocked off but both situations arose from poor officiating. 1st instance poor rule, poorer officiating, 2nd just blatant incompetence.

Hard to argue they werent robbed.

Roosters go back-to-back at 2019 NRL Grand Final

Nah I’m feeling empty as well. Fair dinkum that was ordinary. I’ll give them the trainer call was probably just a garbage rule being enforced but jeez the rest of it.

No skin in the game but the better side lost tonight.

Reckless 1 is 3 weeks.

Heard he got off, not suprising. No better defence then one of uncle nicks brown paper bags.

Luke Keary waits on charge sheet

If that isnt a grade one reckless, I dont know what is. Kafusi is held upright and standing still, Keary whacks him straight in the head with a swinging arm.

Luke Keary waits on charge sheet

My comment wasnt about his character…just lack of ability. It shows the lack of batting depth both sides have.

Usman Khawaja axed for fourth Ashes Test

Keeping Wade over Khawaja is a mistake for mine. In tough batting conditions with two frail batting lineups 20-30s still have their value. He may be incredibly frustrating but at least he looks like he can handle swing and seam. Wade clearly can not.

We’re also throwing a heap of pressure on Marnus to bat 3. Yes he’s swaggered around like Viv for the last two games but he’s still wet behind the ears as a top level cricketer. Fairly cavalier attitude by the selectors given the ashes are at stake.

Don’t mind Starc in. Patto hasn’t set the world on fire.

Saw Denly is now opening. Roy at 4. The fact Joe Denly is considered a safe bet shows just how awful this English batting lineup is.

Usman Khawaja axed for fourth Ashes Test

Bowler, no.

A batsmen or keeper though…

Ben Stokes: More than just a cricketing hero

He was initially selected on the back of an fc average of the 30. Given this was the first test series after sandpaper and all the PR promises of cleaning up the boys club of aussie cricket it seemed like nothing had changed. Less deserving player picked because he’s a “better fit” than a bloke averaging 10-15 more in fc cricket. All it took were a few low scores for the daggers to come out.

I think we’re all happy to eat our words given the last two matches. He’s got some ridiculous swagger given the conditions. Possibly the toughest challenge an overseas batsmen could face and he looked like he was having a net.

Warner's ugly but crucial Ashes innings

Whilst Jofra looks an exceptional talent he is far less of a threat than Broad in England. Commentators have righfully raved about Smith’s batting but Broad beat the edge a dozen times in that first innings spell. For Aus to win the ashes blunting those spells from Broad is still the key.

Jofra’s county stats are rather disengenous. Div 2 given the current state of English batting depth is akin to grade cricket. For a point of reference Jimmy Anderson has 30 wickets at 9 in his div 2 matches this year.

Archer may well develop into a great bowler, particularly overseas where the like of Woakes are ineffective, but he certainly isnt the messiah the media are drumming him up to be.

Archer can have a big impact on the Ashes

Never had a chance? They have the best forward pack in the comp (on paper), rep halves and solid outside backs. So they lose De Bellin and Widdop that leaves them with just Vaughan, Sims, Frizell, Graham, Hunt, Norman, Mcinnes (not a rep player but he is quality). If that side can’t make the 8, you need to be looking at the coach and the players.

Then you look at player development. How’s Dufty developing under Mary? Leilua?

Dragons should never be a bottom 4 side. They’ve got a massive development area, a huge fanbase that turns up every week and just a great f-ing roster.

Mary should go, along with a couple of their “stars”.

Fail Mary? He didn’t really have a chance

200-220

250+ is and they’re favourites.

Remarkable considering 8 for nothing on day 1.

First Ashes Test rests on Smith's bat

Please he was dropped because Green didnt rate him. His form the year prior was great. Like I said I don’t blame Green for giving Hess a crack but at this stage of his career he’s not half the player Lowe is.

Eight talking points from NRL Round 18

Lowe is the latest in a horror run of list decisions by the Cowboys. Fair enough he gave Hess a crack at a starting role but it was clear last year he wasn’t up to it. Lowe sitting in reserve grade for most of last year was a joke so I’m glad he’s at least getting some game time.

But its all good. We’ll sign some journeymen like Fensom and Kahu in the off season.

On the dogs, I really like how they’re coming along. Certainly some poor retention decisions (join the club) but they play above their weight. They have a lot more heart than some of the sides in the comp.

Who’d wanna be a dragons fan
