Apparently inspired by AFL’s corny “Gather” round name, the Super Round in Melbourne in March will be now known as “Put the Hatter” Round. Gold coin admission.

Hopefully RA is still solvent by the time he starts

Fears for Rebels' future as debt threatens their Super Rugby existence - but CEO says 'we will be fine'

Good to see Rugby Australia manage to sneak in one more bad news story before the end of the year.

If you ever need a good laugh, just get all the HM and EJ quotes from the axing of Rennie, the appointment of Jones, the code wars, the RWC campaign, the Japanese rumours, the Coup, and so on. Comedy gold. Although tinged with a slight sadness for Wallabies supporters.

I don’t watch rugby or league for a TED talk at the end of the match. I want to be impressed with what happens when they’re actually playing

'We don’t hold any grudges': Why Wallabies star will still be picked in 2024 despite NRL defection

You make a good point about the Lions tour. A lot of older fans and travelling British fans get caught up in the history and uniqueness of the Lions concept but for a lot of young fans and players it is not necessarily the big draw card it is made out to be. It will, no doubt, make a fair bit of money for RA. Hopefully not squandered, if any left over once the loans are paid.

Rugby News: Cane urges All Blacks rethink on OS stars, rugby's shocking death threat problem exposed

Imagine missing out on a spot on the tour to someone who has never played a single game of professional rugby? Not sure about what sort of message that sends.

Rugby News: Cane urges All Blacks rethink on OS stars, rugby's shocking death threat problem exposed

I think Rugby has a 5 year period to stay afloat as a fully professional sport here in Australia. If they don’t start making some inroads, the AFL and NRL are going crush them back to an amateur sport domestically. At the moment, they get a free run on FTA on Saturday for Super Rugby, but I can see NRL looking for an FTA game every Saturday night for the next TV deal and they will also have 18 teams and 9 matches each weekend. NRL will have the money and the exposure and are also starting to capture the big end of town. NRL and AFL also seem to have the most political supporters as well. Once the AFLW and NRLW start really taking off, and with the success of the Matilda’s, it is going to be really tough going for the Wallaroos. I fear Rugby is starting to fall into a death spiral where every negative keeps feeding into the next one. So poor results lead to poor ratings lead to poor dollars leads to poor talent attraction. This then leads to even worse results and so on. Phil Waugh is about to earn his CEO money.

Hopefully they can find another Suaalii so they can cancel the 80 million debt facility

Rugby News: RA hunting missing million after contract blunder, Suaalii worth 10x more than his deal, McKellar's big win

Hopefully they might eventually get him on board for a Perth NRL bid. It could actually complement his involvement with Western Force because the battle over there is with AFL dominance not each other, similar to Melbourne Storm and the Rebels.

'Twiggy' Forrest branching out into NRL with mammoth deal to boost Dragons rebuild

They quickly need to find a business model that doesn’t rely on a tour every 12 years by the British Lions (and there is no guarantee of that persisting after 2025 or it remaining that popular) and the occasional hosting of a World Cup which happens even less to prop up the balance sheet. Whatever money they have left over after paying the loans will be a fraction of the yearly revenue of NRL and AFL. How many decent Wallaroos are going to still be on the books by the time the 2029 World Cup comes around? Most I would suggest will be running around in the NRLW by then.

4 million well spent though. Look at the ROI.

Do you seriously think this is getting a windfall? They didn’t win the lotto, just increased the amount they can throw on the credit card.

Sponsors don’t renew all the time and it has nothing to do with the Chairman of the Board. Do you think if Super Rugby was going gangbusters and the Wallabies weren’t sent packing before the World Cup QF, they would be pulling the pin because of Hamish?

'Shame on the plodders': Hamish blasts RA 'boneheads' as Harvey Norman deal ends - but founder denies link to axing

What a ridiculous concept. Most players would not have a 10 year career and we want to limit what they can make for a large chunk of it. There is already a salary cap and paying large overs for young players is a very rare occurrence
