Seriously, they had 4 Roosters on Katoa after NAS gave him a light push. If they couldn’t stop him from scoring in that position, they deserve all they get.

'Both were really clear': Roosters in a rage over ref's contentious calls as Storm win on the back of two dubious tries

And yet somehow League doesn’t have a constant stream of players trying to slap the ball down. Probably would be the same result for Rugby if they tried to get rid of their ridiculous rule or at least their interpretation of it.

'We have to keep the essence of what rugby is about': All Black legend's worrying words of warning

It’s a sports forum, people aren’t writing a work email to their boss. If they want to get a bit carried away, good luck to them. Won’t make a difference to how the game is travelling in Australia. RA is doing a good enough job on their own in trashing the place.

Exclusive: Herbert claims 'steady progress' in rebuilding trust as RA seeks to avert more board bloodshed at AGM

Should just be 4 teams from Australia, 4 from New Zealand. Home and away game against each team. Top Australian team and top New Zealand team into the semis with the next two best teams (regardless of where they are from).

'Went straight through us': Blues put 50 on Force as scrum issues return

I can see people’s desire to keep the Rebels alive but this has almost 0% chance of happening. It sounds like stalling tactics from people with links to the Board.

PE backed consortium 'in final stages' to save Melbourne Rebels with $30m injection and link with A-League club

And yet he can’t get a starting spot at the Rebels.

Five things we learnt: Why Cheika could be the man to resurrect Tahs, Thor is the new Quade, value of sevens

If it was up to me, I would encourage him to stay in rugby and try and play in the Lions and World Cup and after that, then make the change if he still wants to. I think post World Cup, there is not going to be too much incentive to stay, especially if they stick with the current Super Rugby concept. Might also give him a chance to put on a bit of extra muscle before he gets thrown into deep end with league.

Sadly, the Force could become the most profitable teams in World Rugby but they may not have anyone to play against here.

'He screwed our state': The act that still angers Twiggy Forrest and why he's not ready to jump back in

That was the opposite of cynical.

'Tough call': Reds too good for Tahs in cracking Aussie derby, as controversial penalty try, yellow to Jorgo proves telling

I would argue that in this instance, it was a split second decision, only picked up by slow motion replay, hardly a cynical penalty. There needs to be some discretion to ensure the penalty fits the so called crime.

'Tough call': Reds too good for Tahs in cracking Aussie derby, as controversial penalty try, yellow to Jorgo proves telling

It is an arbitrary rule which has led to an excessive and unwarranted penalty in this instance. Rugby is meant to be in the entertainment business. This type of bureaucratic rule does not meet the spirit of the game and nor will it make the game more attractive.

'Tough call': Reds too good for Tahs in cracking Aussie derby, as controversial penalty try, yellow to Jorgo proves telling

The issue is the rule itself, not the interpretation in this instance.

'Tough call': Reds too good for Tahs in cracking Aussie derby, as controversial penalty try, yellow to Jorgo proves telling

I think this is an instance where rugby could learn something from league. If a penalty try, than that is deemed sufficient and no yellow card awarded unless there is actual foul play. It prevents a disproportionate penalties in instances such as this, which has a potential to ruin a game.

As much as we Iike to romanticise rugby league in the bush, it is not where people live. AFL is also struggling in the country because young men and women leave as soon as they can to chase better opportunities in life. A lot of small towns are slowly disappearing. I think AFL and NRL are able to coexist quite well. They are very different games attracting very different athletes. Occasionally there would be some who could make it in either sport with the right training to get their body type right. Both sports also attract people who like different types of action, NRL for those who prefer the more gladiatorial type cotests and AFL for those who like more endurance athleticism. Soccer will continue to attract a large amount of juniors. Unfortunately, rugby is after the same athletes as league and will struggle as the NRL continues to grow its revenue and increase its salary cap. NRL also has much larger junior nurseries than rugby which is concentrated in the private schools. The difficulty for rugby, is that AFL and soccer continue to make large inroads into the private schools and in NSW and QLD, the socio demographic that would traditionally follow rugby as opposed to league is also drifting towards AFL. In effect, rugby is getting squeezed from all sides and will require some serious investment and some strategic redirection to make it a viable tier 1 sport in Australia.

10 reasons league and union should merge to become One Rugby - and give AFL nightmares

You can see a lot of second string kiwi sides being selected to play the Rebels and Force this season.

'Own worst enemy': Rebels' month from hell continues as Brumbies smash Aussie rivals, Lolesio's timely reminder

Seriously, if the survival of one of your teams depends on results in one particular season, that says all that needs to be said about how poorly this game is administered in this country.

RA's huge Rebels admission: Future could depend on wins and losses, Wallabies review imminent

It’s one of those weird things in Victoria, like continuing to vote for Dan Andrews. One of the great things about NSW and QLD is that no sport is treated like some great religion and people are actually encouraged to follow multiple sports. Probably also helps that there is lot more to do in Winter than watch and talk about football.

The Wrap: Code Orange as looming Rebels decision places rugby pathways at risk

Then why schedule it on that day and in that location?

Rugby News: Wallabies legend's son set for Italy Test move, RA want daytime Bledisloe, Force re-sign coach, Super Rugby law change

Sounds like the code wars are over. Rugby putting up the white flag.

Rugby News: Wallabies legend's son set for Italy Test move, RA want daytime Bledisloe, Force re-sign coach, Super Rugby law change

I thought the 500k was just to keep them going for 2024. They would still be losing money going forward so RA probably decided to cut their losses after this year, knowing they would be breaching the TV contract if they didn’t have the Rebels playing this year.

CONFIRMED: Rebels fall into voluntary administration as Rugby Australia seeks 'sustainable and successful future'

The AFL has poured money into GWS and the Suns that Rugby just does not have. Not even the NRL could have afforded to waste the amount of money the AFL has on those expansion clubs.

CONFIRMED: Rebels fall into voluntary administration as Rugby Australia seeks 'sustainable and successful future'

Apparently inspired by AFL’s corny “Gather” round name, the Super Round in Melbourne in March will be now known as “Put the Hatter” Round. Gold coin admission.

Good to see Rugby Australia manage to sneak in one more bad news story before the end of the year.
