'Not guilty': Why Jordie Barrett was cleared for Koroibete face kick

Just did (saw it live as well). Jordie should be on the sideline for at least 4 weeks, 🙂
How he can be let off is ludicrous.

No, Bledisloe is a great annual event.

How to fix Australian rugby's trans-Tasman problem

Thorn himself has to wear some of the blame for his team’s inept performance last night. The Saders in attack consistently used decoy runners to setup their backline yet not a one Reds defender had the nous to use the decoy as interference preventing him from tackling the ball carrier, which the ref would then have been forced to acknowledge. And against the Saders starving them of possession is crucial.
All in all I was happy with the Reds’ 28 points.

Groundhog day for the Wallabies: Four talking points from Bledisloe 3

Turned off at the 70 min mark last night, won’t even bother tuning in next Saturday. Pointless. Rennie says be patient. Heard it all a thousand times before.
How is RA supposed to negotiate a lucrative deal with a broadcaster following that grossly incompetent display… and Rennie and Johnston are now locked in to 2023?
Alan Jones was on the money: they’re not up to it.
Little wonder fans just walk away.

Groundhog day for the Wallabies: Four talking points from Bledisloe 3

Here’s hoping RA stick with Foxtel considering all the millions they’ve poured into the game for a quarter century.
Good on you Brett.

Welcome competition in the rugby broadcast rights race - and a farewell, for now…

Ken, “I believe without direct evidence that he is living in reaction to forces he cannot influence.”
Spot on. At the moment he’s beholden to his influential father’s advice, i.e. remember how he reiterated resembling a rabbit in the headlights that his father warned him he would ‘go to the burning fires of hell for all eternity’ if he didn’t speak out against same sex marriage? So Folau’s a victim of parental guidance and influence as they — his family — believe deeply in their religion. Kolbe. Did anyone notice his [over] zealous Billy Graham-esque religious outburst at the recently concluded RWC in Yokohama? Some folks are plainly religious from head to toe, and it ain’t a crime as it was in Nero’s day.
“As many extremists do Izzy may change his allegiance as his life unfolds.”
Gee whiz, ‘extremist’ is a tad heavy. He’s only 30 and of course, he is indeed still developing, as we all were at that age. RA now need to urgently draw up new contractual guidelines, extend the olive branch and resurrect his career pronto so that we can witness some truly outstanding brilliant play from one of our most talented gifted backs ever. Forget the payout deal, who cares… once the Wallabies start winning again, the turnstiles will wipe out the debt in a blink. The rugby public want [demand] to see scintillating exciting rugby, the best players on the park, and Isreal Folau is clearly among such elites.

The last column about Israel Folau ever, I promise

Yes, I’ve decided to take a new approach. Easier on the nerves, 😢

Clean slate: Rennie appointment starts a new era for Australian rugby

Brett, this is no laughing matter mate. Please listen to podacst starting at 2.00 minute mark and all will be revealed. 😊

‘I do not support the appointment’: Alan Jones slams Wallabies coaching decision

Clean slate: Rennie appointment starts a new era for Australian rugby

Sheek, I wish we could persuade Robbie to come back and fix up the Tahs… the national team can’t be competitive if our provinces aren’t performing, and the reinstatement of the Western Force would be good too, 😊

Cheika's legacy: Consistent inconsistency and puzzling selection to the very end

“Rennie is certainly ‘talking the talk’. It’s all good, Castle and Johnson are just brilliant. They are ‘all on the same page’.” Apparently both Scott Johnson and Dave Rennie are managed (is that the word?) by an NZ outfit called Esportif. It’s mentioned in AJ’s podcast (21-11-19):

Clean slate: Rennie appointment starts a new era for Australian rugby

‘unless you’re one of those in the rabidly “must-be-an-Australian” camp.’
Wonder where ol’ Brumbies coach David Nucifora is these days… 😁 or Michael Foley perhaps. Also, why shouldn’t Rennie’s performance be up for scrutiny each 12 months as it was in AJ’s and Bob Dwyer’s case? We could be in for a very miserable four years.

Clean slate: Rennie appointment starts a new era for Australian rugby

Rennie’s appointment doesn’t seem to have impressed one of our most successful Wallaby coaches, Alan Jones one iota. AJ “coached the Australian team for 4 years with 86 victories from 102 matches including 23 victories in 30 Tests.” This morning on his 2GB Breakfast Show he was scathing of the appointment claiming, “I have been warning about this. This was a stitch-up from Day 1, that this bloke Rennie from New Zealand was going to be the Wallaby coach, and this was all signed, sealed and delivered some time ago; I have written about [this] relentlessly. And of course Raelene Castle says there were no Australian candidates. Well Raelene I’ve asked you earlier send me the advertisement will you? Tell me where this was advertised, who the applicants were, and who interviewed them? This appointment of Rennie compounds the disgrace that is the administration of rugby [in Australia]. This fellow has no international experience, etc.” The rest is here (scroll down to the audio podcast):

There’ll be another piece by AJ in tomorrow’s Australian.
(The usual paragraphing issue on The Roar persists. ‘Tis broke.)

Clean slate: Rennie appointment starts a new era for Australian rugby

Hi Spiro, “By allowing Cheika to unfairly trash the referees, Rugby Australia condoned behaviour that is outlawed in its Code of Conduct. Yet he was never effectively disciplined.” Yes and no. They did warn him about smashing up the furniture, and ripping doors off hinges. But in fairness there are numerous occasions when refs show their bias and other times their plain incompetence, so Chek getting upset with refs shouldn’t really surprise, i.e. he was entitled to much of the time. E.g. Stuart Barnes in Fox commentary the other night referred to the disgraceful refereeing display in the 2011 Final at Eden Park, and that ref has now been relegated to 7s tournaments (I’d wondered for a while where he’d got to). Without the ref’s assistance that French side decked out in full white may well have won their first RWC on foreign soil. But it wasn’t to be, indeed denied thanks to, ah gee, I’ll hold me tongue and behave like a proper gentleman [for a change]. (And btw, Koroibete’s second brilliant try in our QF loss to the Old Enemy the other night seemed legit, yet the ref [Inspector] Jérôme Garcès (France) requested a review and then overruled Television Match Official Ben Skeen (New Zealand) who said it was a classic ‘six of one, half-a-dozen of the other’ scenario, i.e. a try, and if the All Blacks had scored it it would have been given, but yet again we [the Wallabies] copped the rough end of the pineapple, and that changed the course of history. —–Quote: 2011 Rugby World Cup
He was named on the refereeing panel for the 2011 Rugby World Cup,[24] and took charge of four matches during the pool stage of the competition. He also officiated the Quarter Final match between Ireland and Wales,[25] the semi-final between Australia and New Zealand and the final between New Zealand and France,[26][27] in the process becoming the youngest referee ever to officiate a final.[2] Joubert was publicly criticised by French players Dimitri Yachvili,[28] Dimitri Szarzewski and Maxime Mermoz for his performance in the final.[29] Gerry Thornley, writing in The Irish Times, was of the opinion that France was the better team on the night, with Joubert being reluctant to award penalties against New Zealand in the last quarter of the match.[30]. Sir Clive Woodward was of the same opinion [31] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craig_Joubert Sometimes you just have to speak up, or be trampled underfoot, 😢

Michael Cheika's failure at the World Cup is Rugby Australia's, too

Sheek, “I’ve suggested before, way back in around 2005-06, Eddie Jones passed the poisoned chalice to John Connolly, who passed it Robbie Deans, who passed it to Ewen McKenzie, who passed it to Michael Cheika.”
Coaching the national team is always going to be a tough gig with endless challenges. Every coach after Eddie J brought their own individual style to the team (remember Connolly’s excruciatingly mind-numbing AFL tactics of aerial ping-pong?) so, it’s unfair imho to pin all the blame on EJ (he too was a victim of circumstances). I hope Ms. Castle reaches an agreement with the prodigal son Eddie J to return following the conclusion of this RWC. Jeremy Paul’s suggestion of Scott Robinson is admittedly bold, but it’s doubtful that would ever come off ’cause Robinson is ‘all black’ to the core. He’ll be a great replacement for Hanson.
“Also, does Australian rugby have the maturity for another Kiwi head coach, considering the disgraceful way we treated the highly credentialed Deans?” Crikey, he had five good years at the helm of good ship Wallaby, how was he in any way disrespectfully treated? (And we’re still fond of Robbie of course.)

Cheika's legacy: Consistent inconsistency and puzzling selection to the very end

😊

The Wallabies didn't lose because of Romain Poite, but World Rugby, we do have a problem
