Yeah Tremain was pretty impressive. Boland obviously has potential given he keeps taking wickets but I don’t think he should be in contention for test spot yet

Are changes looming at the top for Australia?

haha

Sheffield Shield battles deserving of the limelight ahead of the Ashes

Good shout

Sheffield Shield battles deserving of the limelight ahead of the Ashes

Yep couldn’t agree more Steve thats what I’d do too

Likewise the Hilton is a no.3 and got thrown to 6. Not unusual at all I don’t think. Didn’t Ponting debut down the order too?

I understand your point there Rellum but when theres gonna be 3-4 of them sitting on the bench over there minimum, all of whom are young and have plenty of time in them, seems a bit silly to stay there. Richardson or Green could both shift and have 12 year+ careers in QLD or Tas, thats not really short term

Would like to see Jadeja replicate his recent form anywhere off the sub-continent before he gets dubbed better than Stokes.

JLT Cup Grand Final: South Australia vs Western Australia live scores, blog

I watched that innings too. Amazing ball striking. Interestingly played and missed what must have been 25+ times… sometimes the luck runs with you. Carey played a very good knock too. Stocks rising for both of them

Siddle should be well back in Ashes pecking order

Khawaja?

Does anyone else have big wraps on Weatherald down at SA? He looks a very good batsman to me. I think potentially picking up singles and rotating the strike slightly more would have a big impact but I suspect there is a big future for him

Gotta say Jhye looks the goods doesn’t he! Impressed with Peirson, he has been good with the gloves and can certainly hit the ball. Carey has impressed me too which I’m super pleased about. Very very tidy with the gloves so far and his 60 the other day looked clean, albeit Hurstville is about as small as they get. Did you guys see Max Bryant’s 89 yesterday against NSW? Looks strong and backs himself. Some streaky runs in there but took it to a decent NSW attack. Good confidence and ball striking ability

Australia's horror tour of India continues

I’d actually argue Christian wasn’t a bad pick. One of the few Aussies recently performing. Had a good IPL for Pune and played well for Notts in the Blast recently too. I think you guys may be neglecting the specialist role he has been assigned, see the stuff Jarrod Kimber has been writing about him on cricinfo… although yes he failed here, he certainly wasn’t a bad pick on recent T20 performances. Henriques selection does my head in, I really can’t see him playing for Aus again. I hope he goes back to NSW and builds a legacy there, which I believe he is capable of. Very strong domestic performer and seems a very good bloke, unfortunately the INTL results just haven’t happened

How exciting is Wildermuth! Like the look of him and the other W down south. Wildermuth and Weatherald seem a very talented pair

Stoinis bolts into Ashes contention

He just scored a really good 70 odd in the JLT, hes got a savage pull shot

Stoinis bolts into Ashes contention

Also really like the look of Marcus Harris down in Vic. Think hes 25 or so too. Doesn’t have a great FC average but really impressed me last year. If he has another strong season he should definitely be in the conversation too I reckon

Stoinis bolts into Ashes contention

eh, hes played for Punjab in the IPL for a couple years…

Stoinis bolts into Ashes contention

Handscomb wasn’t awful but he did drop a catch and atleast to me does not look comfortable enough with the gloves on to be a legitimate option. Potentially just needs to practice more but currently doesn’t seem a good plan. Anything would be better than Wade though.

Australia finally win an ODI overseas

Yeah I get what you’re saying Jeffrey but Root has become ultra-consistent recently and improved vastly since the last time he was here

England's odd Ashes squad no recipe for success

Still not sure why anyone asks that. As a rabid cricket fan, isn’t every game of cricket inherently relevant? Why discount some games just because they aren’t the marquee series. Seems odd to me, people whinging about constant access to the sport they supposedly love…

Great article Stephen, well written and argued! Really like your point on Clarke, he put his foot in his mouth and came out of this looking pretty suspect.

I think it should be mentioned too how misleading CA were being. They were supremely disingenuous when releasing the proposed salary figures, saying that domestic players on average were being paid something like $170k p/a (off the top of my head). It took Ed Cowan I think (who should also get some credit as a decent, capable and respectable figure in this) to break that down and point out how it was nonsense. That figure was including Big Bash salaries and the highest paid Big Bash players are the overseas players, distorting the average figure and not even going to the cricketers in question.

Who came out of the cricketing pay dispute looking good, and who didn't?

Do you think the men’s game would have become the supremely professional and continually improving entity that it currently is without massive investment?

How do you propose the women’s game improves to its maximum potential when the best players in the game have to be working a second job just to make ends meet?

Without the same access to physios, coaches, facilities ect that the men have the women’s game will remain stagnant.

Invest and professionalise the game further and you will see better cricket being played >>> bigger crowds >>>> bigger tv deals >>>> increased revenue

Your argument is incredibly short-sighted and disappointing how many people comment the same stuff on cricket forums…

Are Australia's cricketers becoming greedy?

Yeah I agree I would love to see Swepson have a crack, Bangladesh should be slightly more forgiving than India in that regard. Happy with Holland to get another crack too if that was the case. Not sure Agar has produced quite enough with the ball yet although the talent is clearly there and I don’t doubt he can produce

Australia's Bangladesh trip crucial for both nations

I would say we are pretty evenly matched ATM so long as either Pattinson doesn’t play OR defies history and transfers his current imperious four-day form across to One Day form. I would say the main difference between our sides is their batting consistency currently (without Khawaja – whatever combo of Lynn, Maxwell, Finch, Stoinis, Henriques seems quite prone to collapse for mine) and they have the insane advantage of QDK who makes a mockery of Wade. Although in fairness (as a perennial Wade basher) I believe he showed a marked improvement when we played NZ and Pak at home recently
