Deardon definitely has another level in him, and Flanno could well be the coach that finds it. I’m also very optimistic Flanno can unlock Sloan, teach him to tackle, and turn him into a superstar.

Rugby league's 2023 departure lounge – now that we've come to the end of the road, some players have to let go

Ben Hunt is a highly skilled player, no doubt, however, he has zero heart for the collision. He doesn’t like getting his jumper dirty, unless playing rep football. He simply won’t run unless it is into a hole. His catch and pass game creates zero opportunities. Yes, he is the biggest contributor the Dragons have, but Deardon will be the next QLD half if DCE exits soon, is a tough little bugger, and does not avoid the collision. I cannot imagine our answers lie with anyone the Roosters say goodbye to.

Yep, Amone can go. De Belin is a very good player, but unless he is a bargain he can go too. So too all the other off contract players. I believe the Dragons need to focus on high quality individuals who can also play footy, and have a lot of footy left in them. Deardon and Manu fit the bill, so throw the cheque book at them. Make it happen. Otherwise, what use are the Gordon’s. Hunt can go. He might be our best, but he is not top shelf. He hasn’t given us any joy whatsoever.

Tony, What are your thoughts on the Dragons? Should they throw the kitchen sink at Tom Deardon to ensure he signs ($6m over 5 years) and $1.6m a year for Joey Manu until his career ends? Surely they have the cap room. If not, let Hunt go. Deardon, Manu, Lomax, Ravalawa, and Sloan is the basis of a great backline. Image how many try assists Manu would put on for Sloan. The backline would be unstoppable like the Dragons backline of 2010. We still need forwards, but Deardon and Manu would be a great start. There is no option but to outbid everyone and throw the kitchen sink at them. If not, where to from here?

'A little surreal': Premiership winner Widdop calls it a day after Super League exit

Feagai and Burns are also huge liabilities in defence. Step 1 is to get rid of all those who either can’t or won’t tackle, or 2024 will be another bottom of the table finish.

ANALYSIS: Knights warm up in style as Dom Young takes to the skies with two of the best putdowns of the year

I agree that Gasnier did not engage in foul or petulant play on the field, but off the field is another matter. There was of course a widely reported and disgusting phone call to a young woman during one particular Origin series.

Latrell's career may have already peaked unless he can eradicate momentary lapses of discipline

Yes indeed. And they have done sweet FA to make the club a success, in stark contrast to Nick Politis, Matt Tripp, Russell Crowe, etc, who at the heart of it, are the very reason for the success of their clubs. Success starts at the very top, or failure as it were with the Dragons.

'Totally gutted' and 'pissed off' Holbrook axed for Hasler, Meninga also on way out of Titans - but no progress yet on Hunt

No chance. It is 100% certain Hasler and Hunt have spoken. Everything is organised.

'Totally gutted' and 'pissed off' Holbrook axed for Hasler, Meninga also on way out of Titans - but no progress yet on Hunt

Perfectly said. There is no doubt whatsoever that the Dragons sit at the very bottom of the totem pole. How embarrassing if not shameful for the owners (Gordon’s) and management. Dumb and dumber.

Great article. Bang on the money. Show him the door. Sullivan is now the man to wear the 7.

Dear Ben Hunt: Avoid cowardly act, lest your Dragons legacy be completely ruined

Great question. Tough question. Maybe my bench is Johns, Daley, Kennedy and Tallis. A left field solution is to put Daley to center and Gene Miles in the second row and playing on the edge. Gene Miles was a superstar. He could break a defensive line at will. Such is my regard for him, I would have him ahead of Meninga. Kudos on the article Tony. One of the most interesting on this site in a long time.

Who makes the cut for the greatest combined Origin team of all time?

What an incredible game that would be. Either side could win.

Who makes the cut for the greatest combined Origin team of all time?

I’d have Greg Inglis on the wing for Darius and Gene Miles at center. Neither the Axe nor Larson would make my team. Brad Clyde has to be there. Laurie Daley also says hello. Ben Kennedy and Tallis for the bench.

I could not be more impressed by Billy Slater. For the record, I am not a Storm supporter.

'Last year won’t help us': Slater defends personnel changes as he looks to next gen - but says Suncorp can't win it for Maroons

We need an owner who is hands on. If this is like Succession and the offspring are idiots, that explains everything.

Jason Ryles was the perfect fit for Dragons. His rejection shows why they've replaced Tigers as NRL's basket case

Bruce Gordon is the problem. He owns the club and has run it into the ground. We need to get rid of him first and foremost and get an owner who gives a sheet. Evidently he lives in Bermuda. He probably doesn’t even watch the games. What a loser. I don’t care how much money he has. Why be in it if he’s not in it to win.

It’s mad to include Coates and leave out Walsh. Reece Walsh is 3 times the player Coates is. I would also include the Hammer.

But we don’t want Ryles, we really want Flanno! Shane that is.

Dragons board sacks Griffin as wooden spoon fears grow but club claims season can be salvaged

Or even better, Hunt for Lindsay Collins plus Victor Radley.

Dragons board sacks Griffin as wooden spoon fears grow but club claims season can be salvaged

Indeed. I believe Shane Flanagan is clearly the best candidate for the job. He is the perfect mentor for Sullivan in particular, and perhaps also Sloan. I can’t see how Ryles fits in frankly.

We missed a big one when we didn’t keep JD.

Dragons board sacks Griffin as wooden spoon fears grow but club claims season can be salvaged

Maybe the Roosters would swap Radley for Hunt. That’s a win/win.

Dragons board sacks Griffin as wooden spoon fears grow but club claims season can be salvaged

Yeah. I think we need to let Ben Hunt go, install Sullivan as the half, reconsider Amone, and with the Hunt money hire 3 forwards of the ilk that Wayne did (i.e. Costigan, Smith and Weyman). What a player Jeremy Smith was. We need another like him, plus Daniel Saifiti.

Dragons board sacks Griffin as wooden spoon fears grow but club claims season can be salvaged

True. He is not a lost cause by any means. He just needs the right coaching and time.
