Smart guy hey

How Rassie reshaped Springboks after social media ref rant - and the key role played by a harsh critic

Yeah super interesting this. Coaches can spot a potential HIA and pull players to get assessed. I do wonder if it’s a tactic to rest players and inject intensity. Super innovative and I’m sure people will be up in arms about it.

Interesting that this is what you think.

Yeah I saw Matt’s comments on X.

Was a close call but the right one. Backwards hand movement. Ball dropped straight down maybe slightly backwards.

Big time play by a big time player. Proper athlete.

Where does Eben rank in Boks all time legends? Easily in the top 5. Will go down as one of the worlds best locks given how he’s redefining requirements for role.

'Heartbroken': Springboks knock France out of RWC in dramatic, controversial QF as 'key moment' highlighted

The irony of people identifying ref mistakes in a game that involves RE is not lost on me

At the time I said to a mate “I wonder how important that will be”

Epic rugby in all the quarters. Fine margins. No team lost by playing poorly.

Let’s not look at who they’ve beaten though 😛

Amazing weekend of rugby.

Not sure what was controversial though?

Fine margins across all the games. No team lost by being poor.

Feel for Ireland and France.

Amazing win for Boks against the French at home.

5-3 is so 1997

Haha. Funny

I only have eyes for Pollard at 10

AD a big loss. They’re saying he’ll potentially be back for quarters but I can’t see it if he’s fractured his face. No training then step into a physical contest? Fair play if he does.

Biltong vs blarney: World Cup classic battle leaves both teams with a sense of final destiny - and a key area they must fix

How do you feel about Boks potentially playing France in quarter?

Biltong vs blarney: World Cup classic battle leaves both teams with a sense of final destiny - and a key area they must fix

True. I’d say with the right structures and coaching, anyone filling in for those two should be able to do a job though. I guess that’s part of the issue.

The Wrap: With Wallabies done and dusted in 15 miserable days, who do we trust to take Australian rugby forward?

Thanks Geoff. I feel terrible for the Wallaby players and supporters.

I’m amazed it got to this to be honest. I always felt the Wallabies had 23 players who can match it with any side. In fact I still do!

If there’s any hope it’s this – There is still 23 amazing rugby players in this country. I felt just as dejected about the Boks during the Coetzee days and look where they are now. It can be turned around.

Goal kicking a big issue. And Marx is a huge loss for sure.

Wonderful article Harry.

Amazing test match hey?

A better pop ball to Kolisi and two kicks for poles converted and it’s a solid win for Boks.

Interesting how little kicks for touch and mauls they set up!

Will play very differently if they make the knock outs.

Interesting thoughts BR. But you really think the Springbok coaches stumble across a strategy and then it tricks them into sticking with it?

This game was a typical tight, intense (and amazing) test match. Both sides could have won.

Coaches will be calm.

No disrespect to Ireland but the Boks were getting across the advantage line very easily in the second half.

Ask yourself this – for a side that is built on forward dominance, why did we see so little mauls? Why did they do long range penalty attempts?

That was far from the game the Boks will bring if they make the quarter finals.

Marx a loss but they’ll be fine

COMPLETE RWC teams week 3: Eddie makes three changes, Wales skipper misses out, Farrell back for England

Marx is a huge loss purely because he’s in the top 5 players in the world right now. The back ups will be fine though. And anything Rassie and Nienaber do is certainly not rolling the dice. It’s carefully calculated and planned.

Boks 7-1 is causing a meltdown amongst the Spirit of the Game community. Ireland have now loaded three backs on their bench! I’m outraged! How is this heavy Bok pack meant to compete???

COMPLETE RWC teams week 3: Eddie makes three changes, Wales skipper misses out, Farrell back for England

The truth. 100% Harry. It’s something they’ve been too arrogant or ignorant to face up to. Rugby will always be one of my sports and the Wallabies one my teams because I live here (Boks first though).

If there’s a glimmer of hope for everyone it’s this – I remember feeling this way about the Boks before Rassie took over and look where they are now. It takes leadership, honesty, clarity, bravery and commitment. Probably in that order.

COMMENT: Eddie must be axed if he can't beat Wales - or the game will be in deep trouble in Australia

Cool. Didn’t know about him having experience restructuring businesses. The club rugby thing is important too. There’s something there for the ARU to harness.

Hey cookie. Curious to know why you’re optimistic about Waugh?
