Round 1 wrap: Impressive youngsters and season predictions
Yes seton was very impressive. As you say, he second guessed himself at times in the contest but that will come with experience Certainly justified the left-centre selection and hopefully they give him the opportunity to string a decent chunk of games together.
Round 1 wrap: Impressive youngsters and season predictions
Yeah indeed. Some unlucky omissions from my list were Brayden Preuss, Wayne Milera and Sam Naismith. Should make the cut for the round 2 segment with another similar game. I think the crowd got a freebie there. Not sure how he wasn’t a top 7 pick.

I am also only 14 years old and love writing, having written many articles on this site. Great, firstly to see some other kids writing and secondly, to see you produce such a great first article. I find it hard to separate the formats, however classic test cricket with a good contest is very hard to beat. Good to see another young person likes test cricket and yes, I really get where you come from with others saying how boring it is. Keep the articles coming!

Great list. Just wondering, will the individual votes of each panelist be released
The Roar’s 2017 AFL top 50 players: 10-1

My top 10

8- Max Gawn
7- Scott Pendlebury
6- Alex Rance
5- Buddy
4- Tom Lynch
3- Fyfe

He should get sacked purely on the fact that he gives zac dawson a game

Get Tim paine in there
Tell us: Who should play the first Test and how the hell do we beat India?
The player who hasn’t fulfilled his potential in the last 10 years for Australia- Through little fault of his own- Is Tim Paine. The keeper had become the ODI incumbent and shown promising signs in his few tests as well as being named the t20I vice captain before injury struck. It had him out for 2 seasons and he has since struggled to find his best in shield and his keeping only this season, I believ resembled the quality it reached in his prime. I think he should be in the champions trophy squad as the first choice keeper
The World XI of unfilled potential
There should be a wicket keeping strike rate. For the amount of balls he stops/catches per one that he stoa or gets through him
Eg a strike rate of 57 would mean you catch/stop 57 balls for each one you miss.
Then an average could be the amount of balls you miss per innings whether they result in byes or not. That would be quite accurate
Cricket needs better wicketkeeping data
Ramsay, Schazza, Dunn, Reid, Langdon, Aish, Wills, Oxley, Crocker, Maynard, Sinclair, Howe, Adams. I don’t think our defensive stocks are as wretched as is made out. That said, it’s not premiership winning but with Maynard, Sinclair, Schazza, Ramsay, Wills, Aish it has potential to have ‘great’ status in a couple of years. The recruitment of Dunn to help out these young defenders for a couple of years so that there is some experience down there with Goldsack and Reid also able to play that role and Adams and Howe both capable of being great defenders
The Pies' season hinges on health, defensive setup and new recruits
I apologise for that, I had in my head sock was verdasco- Not sure why. Yes your right not to have him since America don’t have a lefty
Thompson or Tomic: Who should play Davis Cup in April?
If Tim Paine plays three excellent t20is against Sri Lanka does he become something close to an automatic selection since wade has shown mediocre keeping and other than his century- albeit it was match saving- nothing remarkable saying ‘pick me’
Champions Trophy: It's the Proteas' talent against Australia's tournament success
Good topic and well written. Peers Groth Thompson and Kyrgios should definitely be the team I think Peers and Groth for doubles and Thompson and Kyrgios for singles. Thompson, I think has the foundation to be a great player- Note Thompson beat Joao Sousa not Souza, they are actually two different people. As for reserves, I love Millman’s fighter spirit and hope to see him around the team in april if fit. I agree De Minaur around the squad would be great but also I’d like to see Alex Bolt around the squad. I thought he had a great summer and his powerful game closely resembles that of Jack Sock, I believe, having watched him in qualifying for AO. He showed his doubles nous as well en route to a qf showing with Bradley Mousley should Peers/Groth go down.
Thompson or Tomic: Who should play Davis Cup in April?
I wrote an article last year about tennis’ future stars http://www.theroar.com.au/2016/07/17/best-tennis-next-generation/ analysing stats about Tomic, coric, Kyrgios, thiem, zverev. I think your spot on about the next big four and I also rate coric although he is probably going to be at his best slightly later than the four you mention
Here's the next big four in men's tennis
I was unaware and curious about their speed comparisons, so thanks for that mmacter. Considering Mcgrath was only a couple of yards faster, Stoinis isn’t so much of a slouch with the ball as
a) his stats can suggest
b) as I describe him
Leave injured Mitchell Marsh and Matthew Wade out of the Indian tour
Don Freo- A season where he averages 42 at least with the bat
or
averages 36-38 but strengthens his bowling to assume the all-rounder in the aus team.
Australia need to go back to picking players on domestic shield form i think unless there are other dimensions to consider such as…
Australia picking Shaun Marsh for the tour of india because of his superior ability in the sub-continent compared to others
A t20I example- Picking Tim Paine for the t20 side instead of Ben Dunk for seniority, longevity of bbl form, and to have a more nimble batter
Leave injured Mitchell Marsh and Matthew Wade out of the Indian tour
He has an average of 54, economy rate of 3.5 and SR of 93 in all shield matches he’s ever played compared to cartwright’s 44 average, economy rate of 4 and strike rate of 66. Cartwright, in longer forms is neck and neck with stoinis but admittedly his bowling for the stars as a 4th/5th option has been valuable
Leave injured Mitchell Marsh and Matthew Wade out of the Indian tour
I agree about getting a better keeper in there. In India you need your best keeper while in Australia you can kind of get away with having a second rate keeper if they can bat. I don’t think stoinis’ bowling is that hood, maybe on par with Cartwright’s bowling. I would have Marsh in instead of khawaja as he can play spin better. The question selectors then face is, do we need a better batter- maxwell, who can chip in with spin or a better bowler- marsh. I don’t think stoinis is yet ready for test level. This would be my xi

Yeah, agreed peter. He has a few one liners and that’s it.

No khawaja because he can’t play spin
3 seam bowlers, because that’s our strength as well as SOK and maxwell, and to a lesser extent warner as spin options
Australia must play their best bowlers against India
Thanks MR
