ASHES SQUAD CONFIRMED: Head vs Khawaja as Wade, Marsh miss out

If there is an injury to the captain then the vice-captain takes over. I would choose Labuschagne as vc and Lyon as dvc. I would not rest Cummins in the tests unless he says he needs a rest.

Sure, but he is HAPPIER if he is selected to play. Let’s hope he is selected to play – he is a better option than Head

Darn shame about Pucovski. I was so disappointed when he got a concussion again. He is so accident-prone.

'As far removed as you can get': Everything Bailey said on Marsh snub, Khawaja vs. Head, Pucovski's chances

Cummins would be my choice as captain. I hope Payne moves on soon. Carey and Inglis are better options as the keeper/batsman for mine.

There is not much difference in batting quality between Khawaja and Head. So I would play Khawaja due to his greater experience and seemingly cooler temperament. With the high Ashes pressure, a No. 7 keeper whose batting is shaky, plus the inexperienced Green machine at No. 6, we need a guy like Khawaja in the middle order.

No surprises with the test squad. Glad that the selectors had their sensible hats on when they left out MM. No surprises with Australia A either. Seems to be a conservative selection panel.

ASHES SQUAD CONFIRMED: Head vs Khawaja as Wade, Marsh miss out

Another story with MM blended into it. I wonder why?

Selector Bailey drops hint on Marsh's Ashes chances

There has been no Aussie test side selected since the Indian test of Jan 15-19 2021. So Wade is the No. 5 incumbent.

'This is the turning point': Imposing and important to the culture, but is Mitch Marsh the right fit for a baggy green?

The incumbent is the current holder of the position. All the members of the most recent test team are incumbents until they are replaced. Wade has not been replaced. Therefore he is the incumbent No. 5 in the test team. To take another example: in the recent U.S. election, Trump was the incumbent President until Biden was inaugurated on 20 Jan 2021. Trump was outvoted (a.k.a. “dropped from the team”) several months before that date, but he was the incumbent President until 20 Jan 2021.

'This is the turning point': Imposing and important to the culture, but is Mitch Marsh the right fit for a baggy green?

Actually, you were the one who started this argument by stating that he was dropped from the test team. I stated he is the incumbent no. 5, which is correct

'This is the turning point': Imposing and important to the culture, but is Mitch Marsh the right fit for a baggy green?

There was no test team selected since the Indian test of Jan 15-19 2021 because the SA tour was cancelled. Therefore, Wade is the incumbent number 5 test player. If Wade is selected and plays in the 1st test against the Poms, he will have played consecutive tests and therefore he cannot have been dropped from the test team.

'This is the turning point': Imposing and important to the culture, but is Mitch Marsh the right fit for a baggy green?

Wade batted at 5 in the most recent test that Australia played

Wade is the incumbent test number 5, he batted well in the T20 semi-final (and he has a better test average than MM). So if performance in T20 is relevant to performance in test cricket (which it isn’t) then what about Wadey?. And Zampa bowled well so let’s discuss putting him in the test team instead of Lyon. And Smith did not perform well in the T20s so where is the discussion about perhaps replacing him in the test team? ….yawn

'This is the turning point': Imposing and important to the culture, but is Mitch Marsh the right fit for a baggy green?

Would a rational person use performance in a batsman-friendly game with a 3-hour duration as a guide to performance in a game with a 5-day duration and different rules?

'This is the turning point': Imposing and important to the culture, but is Mitch Marsh the right fit for a baggy green?

spot on!

'This is the turning point': Imposing and important to the culture, but is Mitch Marsh the right fit for a baggy green?

“…is Mitch Marsh the right fit for a baggy green?” No. Why not? Because in 55 test innings he averages 25 with the bat and 39 with the ball. We are much better off persevering with the 22-year-old Green machine than a 30-year-old proven underperformer at test level. Keep MM for the slog mania form of the game where his skills are best suited

That’s how we feel when we play NZ in rugby

MATCH REPORT: Magnificent Marsh outdoes Williamson epic as Australia claim World Cup glory

Most of Australia did not hate MM – they just hated that he kept getting selected when he was not good enough for the test team. (And he still isn’t). Congratulations to him and the other T20 players for their excellent performances in this WC!

Harris at 5, Carder or Hunt to open with the Warnermeister and J. Richardson in for Starc

Ashes Scout: Broad's bunnies? Australia lock in left-handed openers, Stokes 'on track', Root addresses Yorkshire scandal

MM proved he is not a test top 6 batter. He was given a good run. Time for someone else. My top 6: Warner, Carder, Labuschagne, Smith, Harris, Green

Get Carder: Kerry O'Keeffe's huge Ashes opener call, Marsh pushes for return

This result was excellent for Australia. Maybe they will start choosing specialist T20 players and leave our best test players for the real game. In other words, copy the Poms

MATCH REPORT: Buttler blitzkrieg sees England hand Australia 'an absolute hiding'

Maddinson is in the same Australia-A boat as Head. I hope Pucovski is fit so he can partner Warner and Harris can bat at 5.

Could Nic Maddinson's hot form see him be an Ashes bolter this summer?

“Pre-Ashes blow” – to the Poms only. If these two teams played a test match the Aussies would win by a long way. Last night’s result highlights that our test players should not play in our slogfest team, but rather, should only play real (test) cricket and perhaps also the 50 over stuff. Leave T20 to the Mitch Marshes, Glen Maxwells, Adam Zampas… of the world.

'Made to look like clubbies': England media tees off at 'insipid' Aussies in pre-Ashes blow

The main difference between the two teams is that the Indian bowlers bowled a better length (top of off) much more often than the Aussies (who bowled too short). In the 2nd innings, the Aussies also bowled too short. India’s attack looks far more dangerous
