Great piece John and a subject that really interests me.
Cadel remains an enigma to me. While I totally respect and appreciate his achievements, I want so much to like him more than I do and that bothers me.
I think we connect to our sports heroes when we connect to their story … that is how Lance won so many of us over in those early days. His was just a great story – albeit full of untruths. Perhaps in the light of that statement, the fact Cadel doesn’t want to share his story with us, should mean I like him all the more.
I will say though, if anyone ever gets Cadel to open up and share his innermost feelings and thoughts with his fans, they too should be given a special coloured jersey. It would be a tough interview but oh so rewarding for whoever pulls it off.

Cadel's legend muted through media avoidance

Stewie I think that is absolutely brilliant. Love Adam Hills and love the fact that you lightened the tone.

Why don't AFL players sing the national anthem?

nickoldschool, so many people tried to tell me but in the same way you were annoyed, I was annoyed by the exact opposite. They seemed to take such pleasure in pointing out the negative that it made me stand my ground even more. I guess in the end (although I wouldn’t have said this a few years ago) I have to say Bien jouer L’Equipe – vous avez raison.

Can we believe in fairy tales post-Lance?

So do you think Cancellara, Boonen and Froome are in the same sort of fairytale as Lance?

Can we believe in fairy tales post-Lance?

It’s funny how with some sportsmen and women we’re able to accept the good with the bad. So many of today’s riders have been guilty in the past but now they claim to be clean, we accept that. I wonder if Lance will ever be back in the good graces of the general public? Only time will tell.

BTW, you must have had a very cool teacher.

Can we believe in fairy tales post-Lance?

Thanks Kate. I’m sure the organisers of the Tour Down Under here in Adelaide agree with your statement … I remember the streets were crammed with people shouting his name like he was a rock star!
