To be fair he has been honest. He never denied it and gave an honest reflection of his values by laughing it off and then approaching the Broncos later.

Shock twist in racism saga as Mam responds to Leniu's apology for monkey taunt

I’m loving the 13th Man and his/her own personal crusade to ‘feed the algorithm’ and get the rugby league stories to the top of the page by all of his comments…

The NRL salutes you…

The Roar's NRL expert tips and predictions, Round 1: Can Storm continue hot streak, will Dragons fire, more upsets to come?

I don’t get the obsession with union fans and betting on league? Like or loathe gambling it is pervasive in many sports; just look at the front of the jerseys on many premier league teams, or watch a game on Sky. Cricket has so many markets it isn’t funny, while I have a friend who gambles professionally on tennis (I wasn’t aware it was such a liquid market until we talked about it). The American sports rules seem to have been designed to maximise statistical data points and therefore betting markets.

I’m sure union also has gambling markets associated to it, they just aren’t as liquid because rugby isn’t the number 1 sport anywhere it is played (the obvious exceptions are NZ and SA, but I must admit I have never watched or read about their local comps to know how ingrained (or not) betting is in those countries).

Rugby league needs a new name but what can you call it to stand out in football’s confusingly crowded landscape of codes?

DP; if you are not growing you are in the fast lane to oblivion.

Rugby league needs a new name but what can you call it to stand out in football’s confusingly crowded landscape of codes?

This is only an issue for league and union fans who wreak of parochialism.

The growth of Rugby League has been held back by weak administrators over time; not by a name. Thankfully that is now changing.

At least he didn’t say ‘it’s not the Roosters way’ with Teddy sitting beside him.

Leniu to face judiciary over alleged 'monkey' racial slur, heated hotel confrontation revealed, Tuqiri blasts Robbo

A Roosters player racially abuses someone and all you can talk about is Penrith; has Rusty written a new Book of Foods?

We might live rent-free in GB’s head, but the Rabbits will need to get in line behind Parra and the Storm; they are neither local or successful enough to have a real rivalry with.

Leniu to face judiciary over alleged 'monkey' racial slur, heated hotel confrontation revealed, Tuqiri blasts Robbo

That might be true Fiwi today, but in 5 years time Las Vegans might be talking about the Brisbane Broncos, the might Penrith Panthers or (you never know) the New York league team, alongside the All Blacks.

If the NRL want to win over America, what happens in Vegas has to stay there all year around

Great article Mike. Loving the ambition from the NRL.

‘Ah, but a man’s reach should exceed his grasp, Or what’s a heaven for?’

If the NRL want to win over America, what happens in Vegas has to stay there all year around

The difference is that in the Panther approach the ball is still live; one of the reasons why teams who can offload cause the Panthers trouble.

Is Robbo all he's cracked up to be? The musings of a diehard Chooks fan

Weren’t they cheating the (newly implemented) salary cap at that stage. Stuart (rightly) points out that the Storm had their titles stripped, but there have been others who have rorted who didn’t receive the same vitriol.

You have to lose a GF to win one but salary cap squeeze means Broncos simply don't have the cattle to go all the way

I travelled up from London and despite the result and the way the game was referee (more angry about the ruck and allowing Wigan to be offside than the tries) it was fantastic to see the Panthers play in the UK.

Best year Vegas baby!!!

'Lying is a sin': To'o takes aim at Wardle, referee 'making assumptions' with contentious try as Wigan upset Panthers

He isn’t going to be expected to do 20 hit ups a game from fullback in union. Different game, different requirements.

Manu’s move shows that the Roosters' sombrero doesn’t exist – and that his departure is their call

I’m attending my first this year Mike, so hopefully my attendance and your parents choice of warmer climate combine to ensure a win by the mighty Panthers is pre-ordained.

It will be both of my children’s first time at seeing the Panthers live…

A brief history of rugby league's World Club Challenge - and all the fun that's happened along the way

A dozen? Is that the amount of times Penrith have thrashed Souths this decade. I’ve already got them in the pro column GB 😛

NRL holds tight on rules - but adds one tweak to promote 'unpredictability of the game'

Good article Louis, but there will be a fist fight at Roar Central for leaving the Bunnies out; they might come 9th but Mike will still have them at 2 in the power ratings.

The great NRL 2024 top 8 swap... Who's moving into the finals - and who's out?

What a terrible rule change. Surely there must be some risk return from going the short drop-out. This further reduces the expected benefits for the attacking team, and will lead to less attacking kicks.

It’s probably the only thing I have disliked about the Panthers in recent years; they have put away the short kick into the in-goal to force the drop-out. This change isn’t going to make them change their mind.

Brooks is a good defender, so yes.

Cole Comfort: Why replacing Luai is the biggest challenge yet for the Panthers' succession planning

I really enjoyed the highlights but no highlights ever show the most important thing; a halves ability to defend on the edge. Luai is probably the best defensive 5/8th in the game, and that is what whoever lined up at 6 in 2025 will need to live up to.

Cole Comfort: Why replacing Luai is the biggest challenge yet for the Panthers' succession planning

Good luck Zac; thanks for your time at the Panthers where you became a fan favourite in a short period due to your no nonsense approach and work ethic. I hope you make the most of your opportunity in the capital.

2024 NRL Transfer Centre: Souths land Super League half, three-team trade confirmed

I’m very interested to see how Mam goes this year and over the next few. Obviously his running is electric and he will be a very good NRL player if that is his ceiling. But he is so young and if he can add some creative elements around playmaking he could be anything…

NRL Round 1 predicted teams: Brisbane Broncos - After going close in 2023, was that their best chance at glory?

There is always so much nostalgia for the early 2000s; I don’t get it. The footy was terrible; a team would win 70-10 one week and then get smashed 64-24 the next week.

NRL Round 1 predicted teams: Wests Tigers - Signing Luai can't prevent their 2024 chances already looking painful

Don’t forget Luai’s got a very ‘punchable face’ too.

NRL Round 1 predicted teams: Wests Tigers - Signing Luai can't prevent their 2024 chances already looking painful

Luai is a great signing for the Tigers. Kid knows how to win and doesn’t accept his teammates not wanting the same. He was terrible last year, and got dropped from a pretty average three quarter line. I see the Tigers struggling this year and the next season due to some of the issues Mike identified above are addressed, then competing for the bottom of the 8 in 26 and 27. Could be a decent team in 28 and 29.

Of course that is dependent on them a) getting the pathways right and b) buying smart. The kids that have come into the first grade side over recent years have been talented, but not well coached. You look at the kids that come into first grade for sides like Melbourne and Roosters over a number of years and they aren’t always world beaters straight away, but they are capable of playing consistent first grade and delivering the fundamentals. That hasn’t been the case with the Tigers. Get that right and they could be great.

The second element is stop being the retirement home of the NRL. Yes, they signed Luai on big money but he is entering his prime. Olam is a headscratcher; why pay half a million for three years for a player who was a reserve grader for most of 2023 in a really bad Storm three quarter line. Early 2020’s Olam would have been a great get, but he seems to have forgotten how to read the game in defence. They can’t make mistakes like that when they are paying so much for Luai…

The Power Rankings have been re-named the Rabbitohs Appreciation Threads (or the RATs for short)
