London Panther hasn't published any posts yet

I’m attending my first this year Mike, so hopefully my attendance and your parents choice of warmer climate combine to ensure a win by the mighty Panthers is pre-ordained.

It will be both of my children’s first time at seeing the Panthers live…

A brief history of rugby league's World Club Challenge - and all the fun that's happened along the way

A dozen? Is that the amount of times Penrith have thrashed Souths this decade. I’ve already got them in the pro column GB 😛

NRL holds tight on rules - but adds one tweak to promote 'unpredictability of the game'

Good article Louis, but there will be a fist fight at Roar Central for leaving the Bunnies out; they might come 9th but Mike will still have them at 2 in the power ratings.

The great NRL 2024 top 8 swap... Who's moving into the finals - and who's out?

What a terrible rule change. Surely there must be some risk return from going the short drop-out. This further reduces the expected benefits for the attacking team, and will lead to less attacking kicks.

It’s probably the only thing I have disliked about the Panthers in recent years; they have put away the short kick into the in-goal to force the drop-out. This change isn’t going to make them change their mind.

Brooks is a good defender, so yes.

Cole Comfort: Why replacing Luai is the biggest challenge yet for the Panthers' succession planning

I really enjoyed the highlights but no highlights ever show the most important thing; a halves ability to defend on the edge. Luai is probably the best defensive 5/8th in the game, and that is what whoever lined up at 6 in 2025 will need to live up to.

Good luck Zac; thanks for your time at the Panthers where you became a fan favourite in a short period due to your no nonsense approach and work ethic. I hope you make the most of your opportunity in the capital.

2024 NRL Transfer Centre: Panthers poach Papali'i, Manly snare Titan on immediate switch, Su'A stays with Dragons

I’m very interested to see how Mam goes this year and over the next few. Obviously his running is electric and he will be a very good NRL player if that is his ceiling. But he is so young and if he can add some creative elements around playmaking he could be anything…

NRL Round 1 predicted teams: Brisbane Broncos - After going close in 2023, was that their best chance at glory?

There is always so much nostalgia for the early 2000s; I don’t get it. The footy was terrible; a team would win 70-10 one week and then get smashed 64-24 the next week.

NRL Round 1 predicted teams: Wests Tigers - Signing Luai can't prevent their 2024 chances already looking painful

Don’t forget Luai’s got a very ‘punchable face’ too.

Luai is a great signing for the Tigers. Kid knows how to win and doesn’t accept his teammates not wanting the same. He was terrible last year, and got dropped from a pretty average three quarter line. I see the Tigers struggling this year and the next season due to some of the issues Mike identified above are addressed, then competing for the bottom of the 8 in 26 and 27. Could be a decent team in 28 and 29.

Of course that is dependent on them a) getting the pathways right and b) buying smart. The kids that have come into the first grade side over recent years have been talented, but not well coached. You look at the kids that come into first grade for sides like Melbourne and Roosters over a number of years and they aren’t always world beaters straight away, but they are capable of playing consistent first grade and delivering the fundamentals. That hasn’t been the case with the Tigers. Get that right and they could be great.

The second element is stop being the retirement home of the NRL. Yes, they signed Luai on big money but he is entering his prime. Olam is a headscratcher; why pay half a million for three years for a player who was a reserve grader for most of 2023 in a really bad Storm three quarter line. Early 2020’s Olam would have been a great get, but he seems to have forgotten how to read the game in defence. They can’t make mistakes like that when they are paying so much for Luai…

The Power Rankings have been re-named the Rabbitohs Appreciation Threads (or the RATs for short)

NRL Round 1 predicted teams: South Sydney Rabbitohs - If Latrell fires and Wighton fits in, Bunnies can go all the way

The big question is are they fit enough. I’m not just talking injuries, but in game fitness. All you need to do is keep them in the arm wrestle and they flame out.

And this isn’t just Latrell, although he is the poster child. For me, you looked at Murray in a high intensity game and he was gone after 20 minutes. Walker gets cranky when he is tired; keep the ball in play and run a big, gobby forward at him once a set and watch the penalties fly. Arrow losses punch after being on the field for 10 minutes.

That is the big test for JD. Plenty of stories about the lunatic running the asylum last year; if he can shred the players this off-season that will go a long way to them being successful.

Very good pack. A bit cumbersome up front, but should have them in a position to win most games.

NRL Round 1 predicted teams: North Queensland Cowboys - Pressure on Payten to prove 2022 success wasn't a fluke

If you take Tapine out, is it really that good a pack?

The best is behind the Captain and the Big Boppa, while Corey H and Young need to find a way to not only stay on the field, but perform at a high level without red lining on emotion; neither seems to have mastered it yet.

I can see them challenging for the spoon, in and around the Tigers, Dragons, Dogs and Dolphins.

NRL Round 1 predicted teams: Canberra Raiders - Wooden spoon a genuine possibility as Ricky forced to look to youth

I don’t disagree this is a poor bench, but Hutchinson, Salmon and Mann were not brought in (and payed handsomely) to play NSW Cup.

NRL Round 1 predicted teams: Canterbury Bulldogs - Yet another roster overhaul but finals drought looks set to continue

If they end up with Chrichton and Burton in te centre that would be the most expensive centre pairing in the salary cap era. Surely you can build a contending team like that…

I think so. For one, you and I are discussing it and I wouldn’t be unless it was for Ussie’s choice of footwear.

I must have missed the occasions when Ussie scribbled ‘death to non-believers’ on his equipment. Maybe it was his box?

Presumably the journalists who came out and defended Warner with arguments such as ‘don’t get personal Mitch, all men are created equal’ have also been banned by CA for their vile opinions…

'Is Cricket Australia serious?': The Mitch is back as Johnson returns serve with social media retort over mixed messages

Well done Uzzoe; keep up the good fight. The response to your stance by the authorities is demonstrating perfectly why your stance is so important, because people in power don’t want to be reminded that something is going on.

'Double standards': Khawaja savages ICC hypocrisy in Instagram post as Cummins defends 'pretty vanilla' protest

This seems a silly comment. His stance is that ‘All Lives Are Created Equal’; surely that is something we can all get behind.

'Makes no sense': Khawaja slams ICC charge over first Test armband protest as Albanese goes into bat for opener

I think you will find that Luai is exactly that individual; who brings and demands high standards and energy from his teammates. Will be a great signing for the Tigers.

'No pen to paper here': Luai throws doubt on $6m Tigers deal - but tells teammates he is leaving the Panthers

Mike; there seem to be a few more million dollar players these days than previously. Obviously the tide of the salary cap going up will raise all boats, but I wonder if their is a story about whether the salary cap will change the way that clubs spend their cap, including putting an increasing proportion of their cap into the top few players?

Jarome Luai has made the big move for himself – now he has to make sure that the story isn’t all about him

Gutted to see Jarome leave but thank you for being a big part of an amazing time for our club. Hope we send him out with a huge ‘bang’ in 2024!!
