The latest edition of the cross code wars has been so enjoyable to watch. Where does Rugby Union get the idea that anyone in Australia cares about their international prestige? NRL players are for the most part simple blokes who just want to get paid a motza for playing the game they love, with their mates, in a country that loves to support Rugby League. Rugby Union poses no threat to Rugby League’s playing stocks. You could take 10 Sualli’s and it wouldn’t make a difference to the NRL, he’s one player in a line of many and will be forgotten domestically inside a few months of departure.
On the other hand, whilst no, I don’t think anyone believes the NRL is going to start poaching international rugby union stars anytime soon, it’s quite an amusing move, that will give the NRL to really stir things up if a rugby star or two does show interest. I wonder how that fund will work for players like RTS who want to come BACK to rugby league now?

Haha thanks. I’ve been a mavs fan for about 22 years, Dirk is easily one of my top 5 sportsmen of all time. From his sweet sweet shot, underrated athleticism, unwavering committment to the team and the fact that he brought a packed lunch to every home game… he’s just the best.

A “bigger” world cup every four years, with some more interesting end of year trips.
Or a competition that is actually noteworthy in their home country, that provides a lot of big moments domestically.
Union has a better international competition, but it’s domestic comp is hardly worth putting in the daily news. Given the relative lack of domestic interest, Rugby League actually provides more “big moments” that Union.

Damn imagine if the ARU had spent $1.6m a year on a decent playmaker, instead of on the 8th best winger in the NRL.

You can begrudge groundsmen for preparing a pitch that purposefully crumbles more quickly in specific areas of the wicket though can’t you?

The problem is with even preparation of the pitch so that specific areas of it do not crumble as quickly as others. Are you too dense to see the difference between that and a green top that performs the same for both teams?

It’s straight up cheating. The Gabba as an example was genuinely the same for both teams – terrible pitch for a test match though. This pitch is being purposefully prepared to perform differentl in specific sections of the pitch that benefit India…. bunch of cheats.

BBL is a hit and giggle to encourage new fans to the sport, and it’s working fantastically. Is it worth watching if your a traditionalist? not really. Is it exciting for the masses? yep. Can you read anything into the form in the BBL as far as test cricket is concerned? god no, I’d prefer our test players didn’t play it at all.

Who is he kidding. JT is the literal GOAT (or top 3/5 conversation at worst) – Laterell ain’t even near that. You wouldn’t even put him in the top 50 all time players. He’s not even close to GI, let alone JT.

Why would they leave? Most of these blokes probably don’t want to go be an afterthought in Japanese Rugby just to earn some more cash. Uproot their families to go and play a boring sport, in a foreign country, just for $$? Life ain’t all about $$. Living with your friends and family, their support, the local fame, the fairytale stories in the media, the big moments your friends will remember, and still earning huge dollars…. is a way better option than running the ball twice a game in Japanese Rugby.
