Good article. Fielding is often underrated but a good fielder can save as many runs as a good bowler.

The ultimate fielding XI

A bit of both. However, India will obviously prepare pitches that suit them and England need to get used to that if they want to win the series.

Did England have a bad wicket or just play bad cricket?

Yes it was a great series. India have accomplished something extraordinary by winning two series down under in a row. Australia can no longer have even a slight claim to be the best team in the world. India deserve to win the ICC test championship next year as well.

India beating Australia was an immortal win

Paine didn’t have a good series with his keeping but overall he is a very good gloveman. His batting is also decent and I think he could get a spot in the side as a specialist batsman over Matthew Wade. His captaincy is mediocre at times but there are no real options to replace him. Smith should not be given the captaincy after what happened in Cape Town and the selectors would never give a bowler like Cummins the captaincy. Personally I think Head or Wade should be the options but neither have a solid place in the side. Overall dropping Paine would not help us at all.

No Paine, our gain

Umpires were quite good on actual decision making but I agree they needed to step up and get on top of all the time wasting and sledging that was going on by both teams.

When are the umpires going to take control of the game?

What a ridiculous article. I don’t know why the author thought it would be good to write an extremely biased political article on a sports site, and then not even give his/her actual name. Trying to get a job at The Age perhaps? It’s hard to take someone seriously when they’re so gutless that they hide behind ‘The Roar’ and stay anonymous.

CA won't mention Australia Day to promote BBL games, and the Prime Minister has had a big whinge about it

I still don’t think he’s in contention. Hasn’t made many shield runs yet this year.

No changing of the guard, but hard selection calls required for Australia

He’s not playing franchise cricket just for fun, he’s playing it to make the big bucks. Players will always go where the money is.

Australia's reliance on the 'Big Four' is hindering them

Many people follow bbl and test matches John.

No changing of the guard, but hard selection calls required for Australia

What about Pucovski or Green? They are very promising youngsters who have come through the shield. What about Swepson? Highest wicket taker in the shield and already has 3 5 wicket hauls.

I would drop Wade. He has shown he has no red ball temperament and always throws away his starts (if he gets them) with rash shots. I would replace him with Head because he is a decent batsman and we don’t have many alternatives (unless you want to bring McDermott into the side which is a risky move). Honestly that’s all I think we need to do. Harris should be replaced by Pucovski when he comes back from injury.

It think it would be mainly langers decision to pick Starc.

Tim Paine's time as captain is done as Australia crumble to humiliation against India

Paine should continue as captain. It’s funny how quickly people forget the enormous success of last home summer. It’s not Paine’s fault that Harris is not test standard. It’s not Paine’s fault that Wade keeps throwing his wicket away. It’s not Paine’s fault we have to rely on inexperienced youngsters because there are no other options. This has been a disappointing series but we shouldn’t heap all the blame on Paine. Both the batting and the bowling has been under par and that is what we should be focusing on.

Tim Paine's time as captain is done as Australia crumble to humiliation against India

This has been a great match and a great series. Rishab Pant had a great Australian tour yet again and his batting definitely makes up for his shoddy keeping. I wonder whether they could just have him in there as a specialist batsman and have Saha as the keeper? Anyway, India have shown that they are the best side in the world beating a full strength Australian team on home soil. Even without kohli their batting lineup is the best in the world and their bowling is no slouch either. They obviously have great depth as even their second string bowling lineup can perform decently against a full strength Aussie batting lineup. The batting and bowling this match was disappointing. A batting lineup consisting of Steve Smith, David Warner, and Marnus Labuschagne should have completely dominated this inexperienced Indian bowling attack on a decent batting pitch. They should’ve made 500+ in that first innings, not been bowled out for 369 and then 294. Marcus Harris showed again that he was not up to test standard, a rusty David Warner couldn’t capitalize on his starts, Cameron green and Tim Paine made starts and didn’t go on, and Steve Smith had an uncharacteristically sloppy dismissal in the first innings. Matthew wade threw his wicket away with a rash shot again and will probably be dropped. The best bowling attack in the world found it tough to take wickets and when they were on the back foot the just seemed flat. Lyon bowled pretty well and Cummins and Hazlewood also bowled decently (although below their normal standard), but coupled with Starc’s bad bowling, it was not good enough. Overall very disappointing, but a win for test cricket.

Rishabh Pant masterclass guides India to incredible fourth Test win at the Gabba

I think it generated so much negative feedback because Paine is always seen as the nice guy, the one who turned Australian cricket culture good again, and here he was being the complete opposite of that. I don’t think he should have copped so much stick though, obviously he was frustrated and didn’t say anything racist or very abusive. I think Warne and Symonds behaviour was disgraceful, although the former has a habit of doing things like that. It was funny to see them silenced so comprehensively with that century.

A dkhead away from disaster: Does Australia's image deserve to crumble?

Exactly right. Paine has helped our team so much over the previous 2 years. One bad day shouldn’t override that.

Give Tim Paine a break – he's earned it!

Given everyone on his own team has defended him ferociously (langer, Paine) and even the Indian team has said what he did didn’t even matter and they didn’t notice it, it is now pretty easy to see that it was a storm in a teacup.

Are the bad-boy Aussies making an unwelcome return?

It has been normalised because most teams are happy for sledging every now and then to happen. Bouncers could also be seems as ‘unethical’ as they are at the batsmen’s head with a serious risk of causing injury. However they are part of the game, just like sledging.

Are the bad-boy Aussies making an unwelcome return?

Sorry for late response I didn’t see the replies.
If the Indians thought it was an overstep or if anyone was seriously offended, they would make a complaint. We know they are very happy to make complaints if they think something seriously bad has happened, which I think is fair enough.

Are the bad-boy Aussies making an unwelcome return?

Starc has much better figures in Brisbane than Sydney so I wouldn’t be so worried.

Will Pucovski ruled out of Gabba Test as Australia confirm XI

Must be annoying for pucovski, as he’s made a good debut and now has to be on the bench AGAIN due to injury. Especially interesting to see what would happen if Harris made a century. Wade will definitely be under the pump in this game, needs to dumb dismissals and at least a decent score to hold off head.

Australia have underperformed this season so you never know what could happen. Hopefully we get an enthralling game.

Brisbane decider is biggest Test in Australia for 17 years

It’s generally considered as fair by teams as long as you don’t overstep the mark

Are the bad-boy Aussies making an unwelcome return?

You may not like it but it is an ingrained part of cricket. You can’t just pick on one team for using ‘diversionary tactics’ when it is a normal strategy to use to disturb someone’s concentration

Are the bad-boy Aussies making an unwelcome return?

The thing is though willow, this ‘emotional abuse’ is used by all teams in many games. Unfortunate or not, sledging is an ingrained part of cricket, and it’s a bit unfair to start a pile on against Paine when he is far from the only person in cricket doing this kind of stuff
