Canberra did not have the funds required either.
They still don’t, as shown by a recent media release indicating that they were still half a million or more short, including the Government funding which we all known can evaporate at the drop of a hat.

MF: A recent FIFA rule changed made it ‘illegal’ for kids under 18 to move to another nation for football reasons.
It was done to combat ‘traffiking’ of kids from Africa, but has had a knock-on effect of stopping the European dreams of dozens of Australian kids (specifically, those without European heritage and passports).
That’s why more kids are staying in Australia. It means they end up in full contracts, causing overseas teams to have to pay transfer fees. It’s not bad for Australian football. It’s just different.
