What’s the bigger stuff-up: rabbits letting Reynolds go, or Broncos letting Walker go?

Torn bicep puts Reynolds’ season in jeopardy as Roosters prove they're title contenders by belting battered Broncos

He forgot to add the bit about players not being cut out for the NRL because they literally died of heat stroke

'Everything got taken from me': Former Manly prop's legal action over excessive training could be tip of the iceberg

So if you lose possession (grab, grip, catch, hold) in the act of grounding the ball without it coming away, then fair game. And diving on a bouncing ball without ever gripping it – also a try. So why the discrepancy here? That should have been a try. Shit rule.

NRL Round 8 Talking Points: The kick-off is on borrowed time, so what replaces it?

Nah, Reynolds or Moses at 7 and Clearly at 6

Sivo deserves the longest ban for one reason: intent. DCE and HO – I see zero intent and all accidental

NRL Round 8 judiciary: Massive Manly blow as Haumole and DCE banned, Sivo charged for 'stupid' hit

Yeah it’s not like he had his VC-recipient CO forcing him to execute an unarmed prisoner in a meaningless war or anything.
In the wake of the Keith Titmuss tragedy, I’m leaning in the direction of Robbo’s best friend being a bit slow to adjust his method and expectations.
The fact the trainer repeatedly told players not to intervene tells me enough. Fire the soft trainers, sure, but they’re still humans, not livestock.

UPDATE: RA say they were blindsided over Rebels' finances, reject private consortium claim as administrator backs club's survival

Yeah I think TPJ was the right idea – a proper mongrel in amongst the reliability of Haas etc. And getting Yeo to just run hitups is key. If not Yeo, then at least someone bigger than Murray.

'Easy to throw stones': RA chairman hits back at mudslingers' 'hypocrisy' after calls for AGM board cleanout

The big move here that noone hase suggested is Moses at 7 and Clearly unleashed at 6. Replicate Cogger freeing him up at the end of the 23 GF, let Cleary run and play heads-up while someone else does the structure.
It worked for Cronk and Thurston.
It would give Cleary licence to absolutely kill it.
Pairing him with Cody or Nicho or Burton or Jerome just hamstrings him and therefore we need Yeo to ballplay and lose a middle forward in the process.
It works at club level – until the grand final, and it won’t work at origin or test level when Cleary could be way more dominant in the 6.

A million years ago I wrote an essay in a politics unit about sport as a force for social cohesion. The state of things in most of the world of extreme-capitalist pro sport really bemuses me when I think of the naivety of that essay. So this is a breath of fresh air. And a great article. Except how the Leipzig situation wasn’t ever preempted is unfortunate.

How the 50+1 rule ensures Germany boasts best atmosphere in world football

Anzac round should solely be for promotion of gratitude around the fact that we aren’t at war. Any camo or gun imagery should result in a ban from the grounds.

NRL Round 7 Talking Points: With big wins come big losses, and which coach is the game’s biggest sook?

If 5 SR teams can’t provide pathways for guys like Dolly, Hansen, etc…theres no way that 3 teams can. National pro comp!

Aussie-born England capped rake Nic Dolly signs with Force ... and he'll soon be eligible for the Wallabies

Good point. We really need to ditch NZ for a national comp that actually encourages Australian sponsors to pay for exposure to Australian viewers. Broadcast deals will come once the model is actually sustainable.

Scrap the Giteau Law: Rugby Australia should look to Rassie's 'Boks RWC recipe if it wants to re-join the big boys' table

Bone. Dry. Satire. Brava

Does the A-League have the clout to make a UK-bound event round work in season 2024/25?

Probably fair to assume that the networks who pay for rugby in Australia aren’t keen on seeing the talent go offshore. There would be pressure on Ra there for sure.

You’re obviously not a raiders fan.

Gus Gould said it himself on one of his podcasts that for years, referees have managed games to be as competitive as possible for as long as possible. It’s hard to agree with decisions or shrug off human errors with that admission. (Gotta love his hubris.)

After the 2019 GF and the six again debacle (bunker definitely in the ref’s ear) Canberra were awarded the Clive and the 2020 Dally M. That’s called reparations, and that’s what wighton is talking about wrt being at a big club now.

Viewers need more of Paul the analyst, less of Fatty the class clown's cringeworthy commentating

O’Keefe is peak cringe though.

The beauty of fatty is that he’s the networks get out of jail free card in that he doesn’t need to be forced to conform to the standards of today and the insistence on not offending anyone.

The bunker/ref match-fixing shit is unwatchable, (see the captains challenge by Bromwich and repeated unneeded six agains for Brisbane following; or the previous night as the ref called a very questionable obstruction to get Newcastle out of trouble after a terrible bunker call handing the roosters possession on the line).
If you’re going to sit through a whole match of this crao you need something to laugh at.
If you disagree you’re taking the NRL entertainment product way too seriously.

That’s the end of the giteau law, and the external kick in the butt Rugby in Australia needs to get itself into gear. Huzzah

Never understood why Sezer was panned after getting the raiders to a GF they should/could have won.

'Grow up': France coach still crying salty tears over RWC exit, makes 'disgusting' claim about Kiwi ref

The beauty of rugby though is in the grey areas. In the nrl it’s simpler and so just a lot more obvious when and how referees are making judgement calls with the purpose of influencing outcomes and momentum swings.

'Duty to bend' debate over Walsh hit overshadows 'absolute genius' Cleary torturing Broncos in statement Panthers win

Alternate reality: Rennie stays on, and within budget, and we make the QF.

McLennan is still here. Waugh is riding high as chairman. The rebels situation doesn’t seem as dire.

Oh and the roosters stop poaching sons of ex-leaguies.

Everything is completely fine for another 16 years.

Sure it is!

Eddie puts his foot in it again by claiming 'no regrets' after leaving Wallabies in 'a better place'

Am I the last person in the world to see that playing overseas teams is a massive deterrent to sponsors in NZ and Aus throwing buckets of cash at the game? Surely there has to be more eyes on sponsorship panels within the relevant market? That must be a huge reason for the cash shortfall in the game, no?
I’ve got a Stan sport sub due to the rwc so it was a treat to watch a bit of SR over the weekend for the first time in over a decade.
Very well-written article thank you.
