Would love to see a team in Perth, one or two more in Brisbane and one more in NZ.

Ideally a second string comp would be great especially if you promoted it right and had smart people doing the tele rights as well. If the Jets can get over 8 thousand and they haven’t been around for 30 odd years don’t tell me others teams wouldn’t be supported even in second grade.
You could even give fans double headers with the first and second grade game on the one ticket. Especially for those games between teams that don’t pull a crowd. The biggest hurdle for any of this is smart administrators running the game. Right now we have monkeys running the game and so much self interest that it will never happen and that’s a real shame.

Expansion: The dirty word in rugby league

Have to take your word for it mate. I’m too young to remember before the 90s.
Another point is I guess it’s hard to compare modern day players to older players as older players didn’t have every match telecast like they do today.

Wade Graham is the best edge forward of all time

Agreed Jacks. History shows that it’s top 4 or bust.

Then there were three – and the green vote is rapidly gaining momentum

This is the problem when people say of all time. Lots of positions are different these days. Look at fullbacks, they defend in the line a lot these days and are expected to be a quasi 5/8 as well.
Does that mean Tedesco could be better than Langlands, probably not but it’s an unfair comparsion but roles are different and the game is different and you are rarely comparing apples with apples. You could say the best of a his era/ generation and that would be fair. But these arguments have been and will be around as long as footy is played.

Wade Graham is the best edge forward of all time

Doing that would still attract massive headlines and not be great for the game and he can’t appeal after the fact, it has to be now.

Jack de Belin set to challenge NRL suspension in court

Exactly. He very well may be guilty he maybe found not guilty but you can’t be surprised that he is contesting this. He has hundreds of thousands of dollars on the line and if the rlpa is helping fund the case all the more reason to have a go in court. The nrl will lokk mighty stupid if they lose on this. I think either greenberg or LOOK at meeee Peter Beatie will get the arse if JDB wins.

Jack de Belin set to challenge NRL suspension in court

” I don’t think the NRL will act based on how many tweets are received but this is all about public perception so I think they will (and should) be influenced by how the public perceives the indiscretion.”

So tell me why then was Liam Coleman who is facing a sting of charges including assault with act of indecency and aggravated indecent assault is allowed to play not stood down or punished at all. Zane Musgrove charged with the same offences and, contract not registered. Could it be that Liam is a reserves player with no profile so twitter and the journos don’t care.
The nrl were happy to let him play until penrith stood him down for being in one of those sex clips. This is what i mean. Same charges different penalities despite the big tough guy stance about protecting women

Too late, but not too little: ARLC gets it right on NRL player behaviour policy

They also apply to guys like Dylan Walker as he falls under the acts towards women and kids banner as well as the Greenbergs discretion policy. My problem with that is you can have a guy who is facing far less than 11 years but people are outraged at his alleged crime, do you think the Nrl will suspend now depending on how many angry tweets are received or do you think that will have no bearing on the Nrl’s stance ?

Fair enough , that said his having a girlfriend who was pregnant at the time is irrelevant, that just makes the story more morally distasteful, nothing else.
Even if he was single and sober when he picked her up and took her back to a hotel if an allegation is made nothing changes under this new system. Remember when Sirro Jnr had a pic of him and the girl he was doing on the side put on twitter. Under this system he could be fined or suspended for bringing the game into disrepute. It’s outrageous that Bettie and Greenberg had appointed themselves the moral messiahs of the nrl.

But what action have they taken, I’m sure the Police won’t make any evidence available to the Nrl. So unless they have Interviewed the young lady and JDB and have trained Investigators making decisions then it’s just smoke and mirrors and relying on the charges the Police have laid to punish players.

So where do you draw the line with creating a situation whereby you expose yourself to risk ??
By this logic, let’s say you are an Nrl player. You are drunk one night walking home from a pub. You walk into a empty public bathroom I walk in after. I walk out and go straight to the police saying you touched me. It’s my word against yours. By your logic you are suspended until the case is finalised at court and it’s your fault for being drunk in a public bathroom alone. It’s absurd

So it seems like a group of players don’t like him as well as the usual group of jealous and petty administrators who don;t like to see coaches get too much recognition {as it makes them powerful plus it takes the shine off the administrators} have conspired to knife him in the back. I read with interest certain players and people close to the team say on twitter that they will be better off now he is gone. The ffa better pray they matildas dont choke during the world cup. Although I’ll bet they will still find a way to pin it on the pasty err I mean former coach even if they do.

If you're ‘in the know’ and on Twitter, Stajcic’s sacking makes total sense

We could call it something along the lines of Super League and play the game in China, Oh wait…
In all seriousness though it sounds good in theory but it will never happen.
Fans will revolt, the players union would go mental, ex players and commentators would blow up as would the media. Channel 9 and foxtel would say no. Stadiums have 10 plus year leases. And who funds the cap and the clubs. The only way it would work is to get private owners and that will never happen.

What we need is better people in the corridors of power. People who have a clue on how to bring more fans to grounds. Until that happens we will be little brother to AFL

There are too many teams in Sydney. All but one must be culled

I’d say The Tigers / McGuire have a lot to lose as well. Madge has a roster he can’t do much with for the next two to three years thanks to Cleary’s horrible recruitment. If he does well then he’ll probably walk for a better paying gig which means the Tigers are forced to get another coach and if he doesn’t then chances are we are stuck with him. Say what you like about Gus but he’s played us like a fiddle. If we were smart, we would have hung on to Cleary for 2019 and had a coach come in fresh for 2020. It’s not like we’re making the top 4 next year.

The NRL draw? Meh. Let’s talk coaching winners and losers

Canberra say hi.

The NRL draw? Meh. Let’s talk coaching winners and losers

What would this mean for contracts as well. If you have players on a 4 year deal and in year three you get relegated could the clubs then be in a position where they can’t afford to pay a players his correct salary. Imagine the damage if you had a Des Hasler in a comp like this. He could kill off a team in a few years.

An alternative to the NRL expansion

Imagine how good the kiwis, Tonga etc would be if we had a system whereby you had to play for the country you were born in no matter what. Born in Tonga but left at 3 months, too bad , no kangaroos jersey for you. To help ease the transition the Arl could come up with a fairer test match pay system. Bit hard to ask blokes to be loyal to their home country when the other teams get paid 5 times more per test.

Are the all-conquering Kangaroos on the decline?

Great idea in theory but won’t happen anytime soon. It simply comes down to money. I don’t think the Nrl is in a position to fund the comp to be run properly and with Greenburg and people like Peter Beattie around they never will be. Beattie for all his big talk, has proven to be useless at his job. Remember the big talk about expansion, he tossed that into the bin pretty quick. What we need for the game to grow is people who know sport.

An alternative to the NRL expansion

From memory the same people that ran Anz Stadium will be running the new stadium at Parra. Both sides are probably just trying to strong arm the other into a deal that best suits them, par for the course really. When your signing a 15 year deal, you have to get things spot on.

New Western Sydney stadium offer "unacceptable": Eels boss

Neither paper really wants to hammer the other about bad behaviour in case it comes back to bite them. Will be Interesting to see how hard Hooper goes after player misbehavior next year though.

Does the 'no dickhead' policy only apply to players?

No one knows what to do with Foran. Playing him in reserves probably stifles the development of any good hookers they have. Playing him in firsts is a waste as his body doesn’t seem it can handle the grind of a full season. They can’t sack him and I don’t see him saying yes to a medical retirement. The only avenue I can see that benefits the club is putting him on the coaching staff. Doubt he will say yes to that though.

Is Foran bad for the Bulldogs' rebuild?

That would be a good start. What bothers me most is that he doesn’t seem to think he has side the jersey down. If it doesn’t value it that much then he shouldn’t be captain in the first place and his test match payments and any monies he is fined should be given to a charity that provides drink driving education in the community / at schools. It may go some way to help the next generation from making similar poor choices.

Does the 'no dickhead' policy only apply to players?

Exactly right Baz,

Does the 'no dickhead' policy only apply to players?

Maybe my maths isn’t great but 1/2 of 0.05 is 0.025. You had them together and you get 0.075.
Even if it’s low range, .0895 is more than .075 ergo more than 1.5 times over the legal limit.
Seems pretty simple really.

Does the 'no dickhead' policy only apply to players?

Totally agree. I don’t see how this helps the game. My view is we should be doing all we can to advance the game not put a handbrake on it. By cutting back on the availability and quality of support systems and staff available to the players , how are we Improving the game ?
It’s almost as if the Nrl want every team to be at the same level, instead of pushing the lesser teams to try and emulate the better ones. As long as the money for support staff, rehab etc isn’t been used as a salary cap dodge then I don’t see the problem.

Is rugby league going the way of the NFL?
