I think it’s more a Victorian trait and as such has infiltrated into SA and WA AFL circles.

It's time for football to stop being treated like an exclusive club in Australia

thanks JB. So once again, their narrow appeal restricted their (perceived?) funding sources to their own social clubs? Is that what you’re saying? That the strong NSL clubs themselves couldn’t afford the pro set up and their own social clubs wouldn’t (couldn’t) back them financially? Does this not provide more ammunition for new broadbased franchises entire cities and regions could get behind?

what you say has some merit worth further discussion. A modified NCIP where clubs with ethnic heritage could keep their names (that don’t refer to actual countries) and background yet still remove all evidence of foreign association (i.e. flags etc.). Not sure this would have been enough to rescue football in 2005 though. Perhaps a mix of the old clubs and some new broadbased clubs could have been a better way to go instead of all broad based. but I believe there were some issues re: finances and bids which may have excluded most if not all of the existing ethnic based clubs anyway (i.e. Adelaide City being replaced by United in the final season of the NSL)?

JB, this reads like I know the answers but I can’t say because it will take too long and no one will understand because they haven’t been around as long as me. if you know the answers, why not put them down (or even some) in point form so we can take a look and discuss?

yeah 442 forums are way worse. such a dump of negativity.

A-League needs more flavour to revive a stale product

depends who is coach! under previous set up, agree completely.

How to be a bona fide Socceroos supporter in 2018

doesn’t it come down to cost and talent? Is it those from Asian leagues talented enough to play a-league command to top a dollar? and those clubs could afford could just as easily be spent on aussie talent? the visa quota really means those spots need to be best used on the talent you can afford. is it asia has priced itself out of the a-league market in comparative quality to the rest of the world?

I doubt clubs are deliberately avoiding Asian markets.

A-League missing the boat in Asia

lighten up. happy new year!

I agree with all of your complains but man it shts me no end that Sydney FC fans refer to their club as FC. It’s got to be the stupidest nickname in all of football. Every club could nickname themselves FC for goodness sake. DUMB!

New year, same old baffling A-League fixture list

lol

Socceroos to play Norway in March

are you suggesting Australia doesn’t have the crème de la crop of world football talent? well blow me away.

Why Sydney FC's dominance is good for the A-League

why didn’t that happen this year? recruitment

Why Sydney FC's dominance is good for the A-League

i’m an aleague tragic as well but I am really bored too. I watch Adelaide most weekends but if I miss them i’m not too fussed. i’ll put other games on if i’m around the house but that is a massive step in the opposite direction from watching every game. i’m bored. there is no hype and there is no excitement watching the same 10 teams go round and round. expansion is the number one thing for me. the congress obviously is ciritical but I just want to see more teams and more games.

Memo to FFA: Get moving or get out

3) Red card incidents (ensure no clearly wrong decision is made in sending off/not sending off)

so where a red card worthy foul occurs and the ref doesn’t call a foul, VAR would interrupt? that seems to indicate so or are you 100% sure it would only interrupt where the ref has made a decision to call the foul and only issue a yellow?

VAR mistakes mean the A-League season is spiralling out of control

wait so VAR can turn a yellow into a red but it can’t turn a no call foul which should definitely be a red into a red!? what a farce

VAR mistakes mean the A-League season is spiralling out of control

ginger pele would be more apt

VAR mistakes mean the A-League season is spiralling out of control

to me the obvious error would be the ref not awarding the foul at all.

VAR mistakes mean the A-League season is spiralling out of control

but isn’t VAR being used outside of those 4 areas? isn’t that the problem? Obvious error – is the ref awarding a yellow an obvious error? I don’t think so. The ref has seen the foul and made a subjective decision of the penalty.

I think that is the problem. It is being used far too much and far beyond its remit.

anyone notice FIFA’s letter was addressed to the ‘President’. Is president and chairman interchangeable titles??

FFA still under Lowy's leadership - for now

spruce, you go to the AFC? which sheik do you meet with? at least nem is keeping his (fictitious according to you only) meetings local. A lot more believable 😉

In the absence of leadership, it's time for fans to support their game

sorry punter, where was the unsportsmanship in that? The ref delayed the game, not Gullum. Nem is correct below, also players often head to the showers early so no I don’t think they are restricted to the technical area. As long as they are not clashing with the players on the field (i.e. wear a bib), not sure if he was so maybe that’s why the ref stopped the game to move him?

Was Marrone completely at fault?

Marone will likely get a ban. he should, you don’t touch ballboys period. But the ball boy should be stepped down, even if just for a game or two. And SFC should apologise to United for the kids unsportsman like behaviour. The way he has been celebrated is embarrassing.

Carl S should f off back to making a fool of himself to appease the bogan masses. Embarassing stuff from him but why am I surprised??

you know it’s Aurelio Vidmar lol

Who are the contenders to replace Ange Postecoglou?

one of the problems which gets overlooked is that large portions of Australia do not have a professional club to connect with. Why would Wollongong grass roots support Sydney fc or WSW? why would Mt Gambier or Whyalla support Adelaide United? Why would Townsville or Cairns support the Roar? We need to plug these gaps through expansion first. The rest will begin to follow.

It’s the associations, it’s the associations
