I honestly think if he cared about the club he would have done what was best for the club. That would have been to open the pathways for Sullivan and Amone and play some minutes at hooker. Hunt’s rhetoric for years has been he wants to play 7. I’d prefer a captain who did what was best for the team and the team going forward. Think of Minichiello’s twilight when one of the modern day great fullbacks shared his fullback role with RTS. Or Mark Coyne in 1999 who gave up a Grand Final spot because it was best for the team. They were leaders. Hunt is not.

“You owe the club and its fans 10 or so weeks of contract year quality.”

If you want to speculate, I’d say it had something to do with the grim reaper coach Benny was such good mates with. Teacher’s pet.

First million dollar halfback in history not responsible for winning games.

Dragons board probably too weak to demand a decent transfer fee or quality player in return wherever he goes. I’d be treating him with the same contempt the Roosters treated Ryles with. Enjoy a long off season, Ben.

His numbers do the talking. He turned up when playing for a contract. Happy for him to jog on at the end of the year, but as I said, don’t think it’s fair for a rival club (Bulldogs in particular) to benefit in 2023.

Nope, good luck to the guy for getting top dollar. But honour a contract just like the club did through his lean years.

“You owe the club and its fans 10 or so more weeks of contract year quality. At the very least, the club deserves to protect itself from allowing you to turn up and perform for a rival club at a bargain rate after bleeding approximately $7 million into the Hunt estate over six seasons.”

There is a huge difference between the Alex McKinnon and the Nate Myles tackle. One landed directly on his head, where as one landed square on his back but it was still deemed illegal. The over protection of players is diluting the product.

There is no denying the brutality of Origin helped build the rivalry, without it, it becomes another game.

Worst. Origin. Ever.

Awards and origin/test stats will show JT more dominant. It’s what Johns did that the awards and numbers don’t show. Johns did so much more to revolutionize modern rugby league. The way he changed almost every aspect of the modern day halfbacks game as well as almost every attacking feature of the game can’t be understated. JT is a phenomenal player, I think second to Johns. However, Johns laid the foundation for JT and all other halfbacks to build their game from.

Settling the JT versus Joey debate

Cows by 20.. turn it up. Dragons to win in another close one

2016 NRL season: Round 12 preview

Overall, the attack is abominable. To me the attacking kicking game sums up the whole problem. Confidence. I can’t recall seeing as many attacking kicks hit the legs of opponents in my life as the Dragons have managed this year. Whether it’s Widdop, Marshall or Rein (to a lesser extent McCrone), when inside the opposition 20, they attempt to roll the ball in to the in-goal with kicks that lack authority. The cross field bomb has been put on the shelf. I have barely seen it used all year from Saints.

At least McCrone showed some prowess with an attacking kick that led to Fai Fai Loa’s try against Souths. It’s more than I can say for the other halves all year. I would persist with McCrone and Widdop. Marshall for me looks uninterested, lacking confidence, and it’s translating to a shocking win/loss record for him this year.

I would stick with the McCrone/Widdop partnership first to let it potentially develop. Drop Havili to reserve grade to get some gametime after riding the pine all year, and bring Hutch onto the bench. McCrone is a versatile player and could shift to hooker to relieve Rein, and Hutch could be eased into firsts.

Time for a major shake up at the St George Illawarra Dragons

Yea Knights and Manly were more ARL I felt. Probably fizzled out a bit when the merger took place and Chief and Spud retired.

The top five NRL rivalries of the modern era

Consistent good games generate rivalries. Not just locality. There’s a difference.

I think it’s still a relevant rivalry. And that 2009-2011 period with Hayne on fire re-ignited it in my opinion.

I’m sticking firm with the Dragons v Roosters over Dragons v Sharks. It’s a local derby. Nothing more. There have been so many blowouts over the years it’s made it a myth rivalry for me. Off the top of my head, I can honestly recall 1 great game (99 prelim) between the two.

Storm v Warriors I’d have at number 6 and bring back the Bears.

The forwards have kept them in most games. The halves have been absolutely dominated since Johns retired, and I’d argue Robbie Farah has more try assists to his name than any half in that period. Forward pack not the problem.

Time for NSW to accept the past and embrace the future

Sharks and Dragons might hate each other, but there aren’t many memorable matches between the two. Disagree with the Anzac day comment. There have been 3 classics in the last 5 years. The back end of the 2000s and the Dragons Bennett era had some blowouts, but there was a Grand Final in that period. I think they have more of a rivalry than one purely based on geography.
