It is my understanding that O’Brien had nothing to do with making it public or bringing management into the equation. It was Knowles that took the complaint to management, who then escalated it.

Either way, it is concerning for the Knights that the culture within the playing group and staff that the first port of call in a crises isn’t the coach.

It’s only smart if they apply the same rules consistently to all players. If every time a player, or coach for that matter acts in similar fashion (which most players will tell you is regularly) then the same documentation process must apply. If they terminate some individuals for certain actions and not others they will open the flood gates to unfair dismissal cases.

I’m with The Barry. Maybe a good offseason loaded with cardio will do him the world of good.

Also not convinced on the no look pass. Can’t remember many of the great 6’s relying on such a low percentage play.

Coaches need to be bold and strategise differently. One of the issues is that even as junior Reps the kids coming through are being coached as one side players, so when they get to first grade they know no different. When they make the NRL the coach is caught between a rock and a hard place as any differentiation from this mold is sure to come with resistance from the player as it is not something they’re used to.

Hopefully sometime in the near future a head coach has the foresight to adjust these philosophies within their entire club.

Tim Sheens perhaps?

Hey mate, I don’t disagree. However I still think there is scope to breakaway more from structure a play both sides of the field, two passes wide.

I flicked on a Canberra game a couple of weeks ago to see Wighton score a try down a long right hand side. It was so refreshing! The rest of the game he camped down the left hand side with minimal impact.

We are seeing glimpses but have a way to go.
