Down with Skool

Warner’s epic 200 gives him chance to retire on top rather than risk sour ending in India or England

Bit unfair on Don, oirish.

Froe wouldve surely won every flag since 94 if they didn’t have all those injuries, unfair fixturing, draft stacked against them and terrible umpiring decisions to cope with every single year…

'Pretty easy to decide': Shai Bolton makes long term decision on playing future

RT
Think he must mean Esserdon finishing ninth again (until they start losing finals again that is)

'Pretty easy to decide': Shai Bolton makes long term decision on playing future

Amusing as always Donald

'Pretty easy to decide': Shai Bolton makes long term decision on playing future

Well exactly what was i thinking? Bumrah, Jadeja, Afridi, Archer, Rabada et al…out and out legends of all time. And all Chappell faced were hacks like Imran, Sarfraz, Bedi, Chandresakar, Hadlee, Underwood, Snow, Willis, Botham, Holding, Marshall, Roberts…

FLEM’S VERDICT: New-look Smith can rise above Ponting, Chappell, Waugh into clear second behind Bradman

Huge call Flem but as a batter Smith you may be right! Think Punter, GC and Tugga were better overall cricketers especially with their tactical brains but on batting and runs accumulation alone, Smith may be their equal if not their superior. One thing though, when you think of the opposition bowlers that the four have been up against, Chappell & Tugga then Punter have had to face the better bowling in their times, so that must count for something.

PS really great to hear JL join you and Punter and co on Ch7 this summer. Usually have it on Fox (sorry mate no ads) but I must admit the Ch7 team is second to none.

FLEM’S VERDICT: New-look Smith can rise above Ponting, Chappell, Waugh into clear second behind Bradman

This is probably right although the allegations are not defined under criminal law so the burdens of proof and assumption of innocence is different.

That said it seems difficult to imagine there will be a satisfactory and clear outcome at the end of this investigation/inquiry. If the indigenous players do actually participate (and this is not confirmed) they are likely (by virtue of what’s already been quoted of Clarkson, Fagan & Burt) to be met with strong denials together with supportive references from other indigenous players not involved. So the chances are right now it will likely fall into a forever unresolved issue which benefits neither side in this issue.

That knowledge itself shouldn’t hamper the investigation as firstly a fair process must be seen to occur and ultimately the longer term benefits may be to players generally and all clubs in the way they understand and treat future indigenous as well as non-indigenous recruits.

Why reinstating Clarkson and Fagan is the right decision

Youve overlooked the elephant (PTP) in the room Flem. Finch must go now. Possibly one of the worst innings ever on a true pitch against a mediocre attack and being dropped twice. One maybe two balls were timed. He looks very unfit as well as completely shot of confidence. Even his fielding was ordinary. Its not as if we lack captaincy leadership with Maxwell, Cummings, Warner Smith or Wade to easily step up. Green to open which gives more flexibility on the bowling side too. Seriously the performance of Finch immediately places the next batsmen under pressure, but thankfully Marsh Maxi and then a fantastic innings from the Stoin kept up the pressure on the bowlers. Please do the right thing and step down Finchy.

FLEM’S VERDICT: England can be rolled like their Prime Ministers if Aussies make a couple of subtle changes

This is bordering on selfishness if Finch doesnt step aside or the selectors dont show some Robert Walls. One of the worst T20 innings Ive ever seen by anyone (recognized bat or not) with a bat in their hand. Dropped twice, on a great pitch, against a mediocre attack. One shot timed but not even the winning runs were. He’s got to go immediately for Green if Australia is to have any chance.

REPORT: 'This can't go on' - Superb Stoinis' record 50 keeps Aussies alive... but Finch's painful form hits new low

Agree re poms but I hope we get beaten by the Afghanis too. Think its the only way we are going to get some real review of the team and selectors.

Capitulation of a nation: Aussies smashed by high-flying Kiwis but Finch says they can bounce back

Wow what a surprise…NOT. Blind Freddy could see this happening. Starting with Finch some serious cuts should be made and not excluding selectors who have disregarded form and gone for ancient reputations. Couldnt even be bothered watching this

Capitulation of a nation: Aussies smashed by high-flying Kiwis but Finch says they can bounce back

100% – that probably reflects Finch’s outlook rather than the whole team. FFS!!!! Finch must go immediately.

'We're tired': After a golden duck, Finch says World Cup hosts are fatigued before the tournament even begins

Why TF is Finch still playing? Since when do we pick on reputation rather than form?? Green should be in and Finch out immediately. Its like we’re the poms and we pick a bloke who is the capitan rather than pick the best 11 and get the capitan from them. Its not like we dont have the captaincy experience anyways – apart from Smith & Warner, Maxwell has a great cricket brain too. This is like watching a slow implosion and I fear this WC is going to be Ugly for us. Very Ugly.

'We're tired': After a golden duck, Finch says World Cup hosts are fatigued before the tournament even begins

A legend from the Merv Keane school – quiet, unassuming, low-key but absolutely effective and consistent. Huge smarts, will definitely coach. We will miss you Kano, but thank you so much for everything you’ve done. And great to see him on the coaching team for the rest of the year.

Why Richmond will miss Kane 'The Rug' Lambert

Actually thought the Dockers were good this year. And while they’re better than last year, the fact they couldn’t put the most error prone, undisciplined side in the league away on this god awful ground speaks volumes for their ability and application – or lack thereof. At this point, the Dockers will be making up the numbers. Richmond probably wont even finish 9th.

AFL Friday Footy Fix: A draw was fitting, because no one deserved to win 2022's ugliest game

Theres no difference between Selwood and Ginnivan in that both stage for frees. However Selwood kept his trap shut whereas Ginnivan shot his mouth off.
Either way, its a long awaited interpretation change. Lets hope it works.

BRETT GEEVES: What's the ducking difference between Joel Selwood and Jack Ginnivan?

Late to the article but better late…

Anyways, the most important part was your last sentence. I have never been a Hardwick fan. His greatest strength was his ‘paternal good blokiness’, and that players loved to play for him. He didn’t help that reputation at the beginning of last year with the public split from his wife who was well loved and respected by many at PR. One marriage break up is bad no matter whose it is. But it still severely dented his rep (his one wood) to the players, seniors especially.

But just as importantly we forget his best years were accompanied by the likes of Fly, Leppa and Caracella. Now all Hardwick’s best assets are now gone with only Kingsley to carry the load and while he’s doing a great job, it would surprise if he isnt somewhere else next year.
If Hardwick voluntarily left now, his rep would be intact. Outwardly at least. Perhaps thats the best solution, but hard to think it would happen off his own volition.

Richmond keep losing the unloseable

Great round from Cam Smith. Pity we couldnt see it on Foxtel. Poor coverage so far on both days. Lots of focus on the trophy and the bridge, but seeing six golfers for two days (some of them missed the cut including Tiger) well thats pretty ordinary coverage in anyone’s book.

'To do it here was awesome': Smith's miracle round gives him two-stroke lead, but tears for Tiger, at British Open

Good entertainment as always DF. They knocked over Carlton and the ARC showed the ball had been touched. Collingwood below them? On that logic you’d need to review every teams position against the other in terms of the ladder. Footy doesn’t work that way, you only get to beat the team put in front of you at that time regardless. Anycase Tigers have given up way too many leads over so many sides this year from Geelong all the way down. But ultimately, we weren’t good enough when it counted. And as said below for reasons given, i cant see us challenging for some time to come.

Good luck to Freo, I would really like to see them win it but Geelong right now is the clear favourite. Different season in September but Geelong has been there way too much and a choke this time round would be unlikely imo.

Richmond are no longer premiership contenders

Apart from Collingwood & Carlton

Richmond are no longer premiership contenders

Nice work. As a supporter of a lot more years I could add a few more tragedies to the list but you’ve captured the majority of 21st century RFC well. Perhaps add in Nathan Brown’s injury in 05 when we were 7-2 and youve got a set.
Tigers were never in contention this year imo. We still rely too much on the old guard as you point out with Hardwicks refusal to play some younger players for longer than an occasional game here and there when injuries strike (eg Cumberland, Dow to name a couple). This in turn leads to a perceived lack of depth whereas I believe its more a lack of development. We were supposedly strong on not gifting jumpers but without trying to pile on, JC hasn’t played a decent game for a long time and Lynch played a handful of good games but has faded since, injury notwithstanding.
The other point being our coaching strength is as weak as its been since 2016. Remember our coaches in 17-20 included Fly, Leppa, & Caracella. Now we have just Adam Kingsley who is clearly our best coach (incl Hardwick) but he needs more support.
Until these things change, much as I love them, its hard to see us challenging seriously again in the short term in my view.

Richmond are no longer premiership contenders

Of course i hope you’re right. The concern is that the older guys havent got much left and the younger guys aren’t quite up to it yet. If we can keep winning against the Bombers and Bloods up to the bye, then we are a chance to do some damage.

Analysing the 2022 flag contenders

Melbourne right now is deserved favourites. Brisbane and Freo equal second. Then daylight. Only question for mine is who makes up the four? And for that the answer is easy: Geelong. They should be able to win at least another 10 possibly 12 of the remaining 14. Anycase the Dees would get three at the G and will win B2B.

Analysing the 2022 flag contenders

He’s out of contract end of next year for what its worth. But as one of those supporters mentioned, Im not exactly thinking we are gone because there’s no Dusty. Most tiger supporters are realistic (even if they dont outwardly admit it) that the premiership era is over, so looking after our players especially those that have given so much is not really a chore.

Why we must celebrate mental health in sport

Thanks Billy good article and agree with the sentiments.
One additional point is that while the club is certainly bigger than the individual, that is actually another reason why clubs have now changed. Smarter clubs realized early doors that by affording players the time they needed they weren’t just serving the individual player themselves, but also selling the club as a compassionate, understanding place to work which in turn attracts players to it.
It may also give clubs another tool in the box when selling themselves to a player even if that same player may be offered a little less dollars there than elsewhere. And of course there’s the loyalty factor built within the player themselves who will remember how he/she were treated during the time at their next contract negotiations.
