Hysterical

Six Points: Even stars need to be called out for dog acts, and Port Adelaide's path forward is clear

Hey Don you must be salivating (dribbling?) right now as the Dockers march ever onward towards rightfully claiming their 2022 premiership in September.
Huge wins over Genuwine contenders such as the Ferocious Esserdons, The Greene-less Giants, The Aderlaidans by 1pt and the Mighty WAFL 2s can only lead to the inevitable debate about whether the Dockers will equal or break The Collingwoods record of 4 straight flags in 1927-30.

We’re always quick to bag senior people esp AFL in our sports but IMO this guy has done a great job overall. AFLW, Covid and a huge TV rights deal (2.5bn) will be his standouts but just being approachable, (mainly) transparent and a lover of grass roots footy as well as at the top level will make him fondly remembered by most. Sure he had his fails too – remember the good ol AFLX?
Past competition wasn’t exactly fierce – Ross (Up Yours) Oakley, Wayne (Who TF?) Jackson and Andrew (Rip Off) Demetriou but McLachlan has been head and shoulders above them all both literally and figuratively. He made the job much more successful and effective than those AFL predecessors. Well done Gill.
Hopefully Benny G doesn’t get it – we want him at PR for a few more years.

'Terrifying and exhilarating': Everything Gillon McLachlan said about his future and legacy as he quits the AFL

WC didnt win the appeal by comparing the Reiwoldt mark, they won it by saying Rioli’s eyes stayed on the ball in the contest. Cant believe even that worked but then again seeing Draper get zero weeks for a full swinging punch to the guts against a defenceless player with the ball nowhere near impact probably says everything about the judicial ability of the people involved in the process.

AFL NEWS: No appeal despite Rioli dodging ban but Thomas says tribunal got it right, Bomber grounded

Thomas saying the decision is right on Rioli seals it for me. AFL must appeal. He should get a minimum 2 and wouldve had Rowell stayed down. Incredible WC using the Reiwoldt mark to compare. Talking about clutching at straws.

And FFS jumper punches are supposedly out as of a couple of years back but if you want to punch someone, just swing a roundhouse right to the guts? Really? Round 1 and the tribunal has absolutely NFI. Gill says punching is not a good look for our game…yep. Right. Hope that in any future punching reports the accused uses Draper as a precedent to show what a joke that was.

Clearly the Fuchsias need to have the premiership reversed, therefore annulling the season. RFC becomes the reigning premiers an extra year.

You’re always easy to crank up DF.

PS In hindsight its probably a poor take on ‘Mcgowan’. I will endeavour to do better in future.

Why omicron will determine who wins this year's flag

Too early still to call. But unless a new highly virulent and dangerous variant pops up, which is very possible, all the numbers are looking good to have our best season for three years. Lets hope so, and this apocalyptic version of AFL22 is put to bed swiftly. As for that maclown in WA, probably means the Eagles and Dockers are on the road for the next 6 years, but by that stage they’ll probably be relocated to Tassie and Darwin so who cares.

Why omicron will determine who wins this year's flag

Max is the better racer, for him to be challenging the Mercedes at all proves that. Mercedes has by far the best car on the grid. Dont believe me? Bottas isnt the most gifted driver on the grid but still manages to pull off 10 wins in the car. How many would Russell, LeClerc, Sainz, Norris, Ricciardo, Kimi, Seb, Fernando have won in that same car?

No, Hamilton’s not sooking. Much. He just didnt want to go to the annual drivers dinner for a change and the big Austrian (who also didnt go – # istandbyLewis – also indulged him by saying he hope he doesnt quit F1 now. Seriously? If he quits now, it will be because he sees the writing on the wall with Russell next year.
Nah, Im no huge Verstappen fan and Im hopeful there will be more even racing next year between more teams, but Hamilton had a chance to shine after that race and let the team deal with the ugly protests et al. He didn’t.

MUST WATCH: Unbelievable drama as Max Verstappen wins F1 title on last lap

What a great season, definitely the best since I started watching in 1979 perhaps only 1986 comes close. Max deserved this. Hamilton has the better car but Max is the better racer. The latter was stiff in T1 when they didnt award a penalty to Hamilton but glad he went on to win. For Mercedes to appeal against the FIA now their ludicrous protest has been dismissed says so much about them. And Hamilton sooking and refusing to turn up to the usual presser says a fair bit about him. Other point of interest was Hamilton Mini-me (Norris) another bleating pom, saying the safety car and restart was done just for TV. Seriously ? There was nothing different than they had done all year and Hamilton had exactly the same opportunity as Verstappen in terms of pitting for a final sprint.

One thing Im looking forward to in 22 apart from the new cars is whether Russell takes it to Hamilton as I believe he can and we may find this may have been Hamilton’s last chance to win a WC. Hamilton may well know this too, hence the BS we are seeing now.

No.

Growing up following AFL there is no football sport that compares with it in my view. I do love going to the Rugby especially when the Wallabies are playing (well – ha ha) but League not so much, mainly SOO. I also follow the NFL closely and enjoy it immensely watching 3 or 4 games a week. I read up on the EPL and ALeague and even listen to one or two EPL games a week on radio (BBC) but tbh often fall asleep.

So yeah while I appreciate these five codes pretty well, for pure spectator enjoyment, excitement and involvement together with the requirements for execution of player skills, toughness and endurance especially under pressure, soccer ranks a lowly fifth in my view.

Dear AFL and NRL fans: Will we be seeing you at the A-Leagues this season?

Why is it heart breaking? Norris made the call and he stuffed it. Then he blames others when he clearly got told a few times he should be coming in. Over him, little brat. Very happy to see him blow his chance, has a lot of growing up to do. Eg after the hysterical little boy interview with a female Sky Sports presenter (cant recall if it was Rachel or Natalie) after the race a couple back.

Zempilas just loves the sound of his own voice and being in the spotlight. Simple as that.

'Basil cooked that': Footy world outraged over incredible grand final presentation oversight

You’re right Don as always…Why would we aspire to the abhorrent values of mateship, selflessness and humility displayed by players such as Shai & Dusty when we clearly have the AFL standout FIGJAM Fyfe to inspire us!

What were we thinking?

Unlike Freo’s premiership players and champion Norm Smith medallists.

At least you weren’t ninth: Richmond's 2021 in review

Yes we had injuries but so did others. Frankly the most important events happened in the offseason when we lost Fly and Leppa. Its no co-incidence our rise coincided with the adding of coaches post 2016. Hardwick’s best attribute is his likeability and good bloke persona endearing himself to players but his coaching kitbag is not overly endowed with tactics and leading edge game plans. When his aforementioned persona took a hit during this post season, admittedly difficult to measure, coupled with the loss of bench strength in coaching the 2021 season prospects didn’t look great.

Our 2017 game plan was pretty much forced upon us and Leppa was the one who urged us to take it up, run with it and develop it until its naming as ‘chaos footy’ last year. Fly has been a rock in development and bridge building. There have been others to have an important influence too, but these two were the most critical and stable over the four peak years 2017-2020. Currently the coaching panel looks thin especially when Kingley’s imminent departure is rumoured. Love to get Clarko down at PR somehow but realistically that’s pretty unlikely.

So as we move into 2022, RFC is not one of the teams you’d have pencilled in anywhere on the ladder with certainty Id reckon. So much would have to go right with them and wrong with others for RFC to finish top four, while a bottom four is not out of the question either if the best players cant get on the ground again.

Very droll.

Two early front-runners for Tigers leadership as Trent Cotchin quits captaincy

Good move, forecast a while ago. Dusty is always going to be a leader on field, as will Grimes but it should go to Vlastuin or Graham. Fridge with Tigger as deputy is my hope.

'How long can this go on?': Talking points from yet another Geelong finals failure

How long can this go on? As long as possible please!

Re-sign Chrissie Scott now for 10 more years on the basis that he continues to get a bonus by whinging about not playing at Kardinia Park.

What a lovely game to watch last night for supporters of most other teams. Not even Selwood’s perpetual ducking could spoil the demolition. Only thing better would’ve been had it been a GF.

Also great games by the Geelong powerhouse forwards especially Cameron and Rohan. Terrific gets Geelong! You must be so proud.

But what about Eddie?

'Thank god they've only got it for one year': Eddie keeps firing at WA after grand final snub

Sayers has been on the board since 2012 and frankly given his presser last week I’m not sure how he has survived that long. He is an embarrassment and if he’s representative of the Carlton board its no wonder they’ve been in this position so long.

Hawks assistant to be named new Collingwood coach

Very disappointing appointment by The Collingwoods. It shows far sightedness, depth and intelligence. Also didn’t get duped into going after a particular coach or big fish as Edward would say, but stuck to the process. IMO quite possibly already in the potential best two or three coaches going around in this league, Fly, and there will be a 1:1 bonus when Leppa comes along as well.
Unfortunately the Pies will be back. They must however be prepared to be patient as one or two including Pendles will not be part of the long term plans.

Hawks assistant to be named new Collingwood coach

Cant blame them for trying like they usually do for the Hoops, but the Power were just too good. Yes they tried, they persisted, put pressure on and used every trick in the book and some that weren’t there, but still Port prevailed. Geelong however didn’t try as hard, didn’t persist (except for the usual ducking by Selwood) didn’t put pressure on, and certainly didn’t use any tricks in their book. Yep if the perennial finals pretenders tried half as hard as the umpires to stop Port winning they coulda hadda chance…

You dont want Teague. If you get Fly and Leppa thats a great team right there, others will be dressing.
