Why the Queensland Reds are skating on thin ice
yep, Nick Berry is a shocker with his signals so it would be very easy for the ground clock and the Stan clock to miss his time on call
The Wrap: Reds twist the knife for epic win over ailing Brumbies
Thanks for another great article Nic! Valentini is a monster in contact, I was Assistant Referee for a club game in 2019 where he was playing. The opposition had a breakdown the wing with the outside centre running a blocking line for the winger (about 3ms inside him) so Rob hit the blocker into the winger and took them both into touch. He hit them both hard enough the there was a travel of nearly 10 metres after contact. The centre looked at me and said “I didn’t have the ball” my reply was “don’t run a blocking line.” ahahahahahaha
Battle of the blindside enforcers: Why the power lies in Canberra
Agreed, a looong time ago the Referee would have a “be a good boy” chat to the returning player. As player understanding and referee communication has improved this doesn’t happen as there is no need for this anymore.

Great article mate, “Oh, and stay on your feet while your eyes are open too.” tickled me immensley
Cleanouts for dummies: How to avoid the dreaded red
Hey Jacko, I think I can answer that one. The scrum was the only “stoppage” there and it occurred b4 the time was up (the resets don’t count). PK is still live until it goes into to touch/ through the sticks/dead ball line.

fair point and your right other than that dire period when the card was in play the game was a joy to watch
The ripple effect is a wonderful thing for rugby union (Part 2)
Lander, thanks great reads both. The policing every law has a very large potential to kill the game without interpretation (think NFL style of start-stop), there are players offside at every play, if they don’t have an effect eg on the other side of play never blocked an option would you want them penalised?

A promising Wallabies start leaves us with the same unanswered questions
Tooly, I’m a Brumbies fan and I like Miller he WAS a good Super Rugby 7 that played off the bench for quite a few of his games not to mention the fact he has announced his retirement…
Tupou promoted as Dave Rennie makes five changes to Wallabies team for Argentina clash
*Noah Lolesio, I would suggest that Irae Simone is as much a second pivot if not more than Hunter P, most of the ball play was off Nick White at #9 …
The Wallabies revert to dual pivots and claim a narrow win
Thanks Mary, another fantastic article cover and under-covered aspect of our sport. I had the pleasure of watching the Womens XV Grand Final in Canberra and it was amazing to see the massive jump in technique and skill just from last year. The Colts players were discussing how impressive some of the tackles and passing were.

3 penalties, two entry at maul, one not roll at Tackle/Ruck. The second entry to the Maul was the dumb one it was less than a minute after the first…
Caleb Clarke's performance to the Wallabies' defensive wobbles: Four talking points from Bledisloe 2
Hi Don,
I can categorically tell you that this is not the case with the Brumbies maul. The team of 4 officials were looking at long places instead of the rip, lifters illegally blocking access to the carrier before initial contact and ball carrier “drifting” back through the maul throughout SRAU. I think the bind to the elbow is one of those “offences” that are played away from as like a myriad of others or otherwise Rugby would be as stop start as American football.
How the Brumbies had the nous to get home by a nose

Super Rugby AU Round 10 teams: Haylett-Petty back for Rebels, Brumbies stock up for blockbuster
@RahRah, perception is funny thing isn’t it as an unabashed Brumbies fan I felt the Reds were very lucky not to have someone in the naughty chair after the sheer weight of PKs against them and the warnings from Berry

definitely more strongly policed if there is an opposition jump. If the opposition don’t go up they will usually only pick the outside shoulder throw.
