I can’t understand everyone’s fascination with GWS’ crowds. Poor as they are, let’s have a look at other Syndey crowds over the weekend:
The Rabbitohs, sitting on top of the ladder, playing other finals aspirant the cowboys got 15 000 (and they boast a membership of 25 000 for all the folks banging on about the 12000 giants members.)
The Sharks and Tigers got under 10 000, two Sydney teams.
The Eels of late have been getting sub 10 000 crowds as well, and the roosters for all of the big names they bought and footy they’re playing can seldom crack 15000.
Meanwhile the Giants, Sydney’s SECOND AFL team, the other of which regular tips the cities average crowds, playing in an area regarded as the most foreign Australian football scene in the country, against an interstate team when it is known before the game even starts that they will get absolutely flogged draw 5000.
And on Mother’s Day too boot.
And all the AFL haters crawl out of the woodworks to stick the boot in.
If and when they are pushing for the top 8 playing good footy and they still are pulling these numbers then by all means get stuck in, but honestly Syndey NRL fans are in absolutely no position to attack crowds.
As for Sheedy’s comments, well they were distasteful at best and will no doubt come back to haunt him. Probably best he moves on soon.
Record low AFL crowd for GWS home match
Been getting into the AFL Kellett?
Good to see mate.
Has the 2013 AFL season been too predictable?
You are one of the biggest trolls on here. Any article penned by yourself regarding Australian football should be taken with a grain of salt. But as it is a free country, please continue to illustrate tall poppy syndrome at its finest, whatever helps you sleep at night I guess.
Lack of accountability now haunts the AFL
Very suss to say the least. I’m sure some money changed hands at some point..
What other choice do you have when you’re staring at 8 series losses in a row.
Souths concerned for Inglis's safety
All soccer is highlighting is the rate at which people are flocking into Australia. Whether you like the game or not is irrelevant, if we have learnt anything over the years it’s that you stick to what you know. The southern states will continue to follow Aussie rules, the northern states with the rugbies. And ethnics will follow the game they were bought up on: soccer. Nothing to do with second rate.
NRL is rock 'n' roll enough without cheap gimmicks, Dave
No doubt that plays a part, but every sport has fans cheering for it. The fact that in soccer (mainly European and South American leagues) the fans are often rioting and lighting flares etc in the stands whilst there is a match taking place says to me that they are compensating for the lack of excitement on the field.

+100
They’ll deny it of course, but that’s always how I’ve seen it.

How’s the weather/crowd looking?

On the contrary, it makes my blood boil.
I live in Brisbane, and sit back and watch as NSW and Sydney run the show, make all the decisions and claim to be the games heartland yet their lazy bandwagon fans can’t even get 20 000 to a game.
Manly crush Bulldogs 20-6 in NRL clash
It’s been raining all week? You poor souls.
Last night the conditions were great, and to pull under 20 000 regardless of the weather in a match between these two is nothing short of atrocious.
Over 50 000 for 2 non-finalist down in Melbourne.

18 000?!
For a game between two local teams that made the top 4 last year?
Absolutely pathetic Sydney.

Great article! I will be there tomorrow hoping the cats make it 10 straight!
Hawthorn and Geelong set to continue AFL's most epic rivalry
Why must Australian citizens show due to respect to but one religion? If you are a Christian then by all means, celebrate, worship etc.
To me personally, I am shocked that in 2013 the whole country must stop for one of the many religions’ days of worship. Shows we still have a long way to go to un-wine religion from politics, sport, and everything else it has no business in.
How can it be "Good" Friday without football?
Ahhh Sydney, fantastic crowd as always..
Socceroos draw 2-2 with Oman, save 2014 World Cup campaign
I understand they put the first game of the season on 7mate in Perth because it was live on subsequently at 4:30 but why on earth was the derby on 7mate?!?
Everything still at stake after a tense third Sydney Derby
