Rebels and Brumbies combine? No problem in NZ having a super rugby team shared across multiple cities.

Rugby Australia is back where they hoped they would never return - and their next move could make or break the game

Easy solution- any ball over shoulder height is a no ball. Bowlers only bowl there to intimidate and any hits on the head cause long term damage. Pucovski is a prime example – 11 concussions must have a lasting impact. Unwise for him to continue – especially given the risk that some bowlers will deliberatley target his head given his history.

Little aimless kicking by either side. Most kicks gave their players a chance to regather. Good to see.

Any coincidence that WBs and ABs are the only major rugby nations who still require players to play for domestic franchises to qualify for the national side?
Cant help that players in the national sides have no choice but to develop their skills in a deteriorating super rugby competition.

The Wrap: With Wallabies done and dusted in 15 miserable days, who do we trust to take Australian rugby forward?

Key difference in the end was that the WBs front row was weakened by injuries and replacements and in the later stages the ABs were able to milk penalties by driving over a weaker scrum. From these penalties they scored a try and kicked the match winning goal.

My view is that it is blight on the game that a team can manipulate a penalty against a weaker scrum even though they are not intending to break any rules.

Simple answer would be to only award short arm penalties unless there are deliberate steps taken to take down a scrum?

The Wrap: Wallabies and All Blacks emerge from ‘dead rubber’ with plenty to take to the World Cup

This was the chance for the big 3 to stand up and proves themselves. Big opening stand and a fairly good wicket. But once again Manus was out of form and Smith and Head while batting positively did not have the application to get past a middleling score. But to be fair they obviously all need a break.
The last day illustrated the difference in the bowling- England could get the ball moving off the seam and Australia couldnt. It was unfortunate that Scott Boland couldnt transfer his ability to seam the ball that he has back home to English conditions.

Leaving aside the UK press dross it has to be said our batting was largely pretty bad. Given the tricky conditions where you could get out at any time the tactics of Manus etc of even leaving the bad balls was hard to follow and a tough watch. Much preferred watching the bazballers going at twice the rate. Be interesting to see if any change of approach in the 2nd innings. Here’s hoping.

'Disaster': Wallabies hammered by Boks as Eddie Jones' return falls flat

Pretty difficult to play Bazball or any other style of cricket with both sides defaulting to bodyline bowling.

It may have better to have the 2nd playmaker at 13. Persisting with a crashball player there is not going to help the flow of the backline.

The Reds played such good rugby for 50 minutes but then decided to shut up shop and kick the ball back to the landers.

Depends on your view of resurrecting body line bowling. Wagner seems to have got away with what other bowlers may not consider as cricket because he is slower and shorter than other quicks. But in the end his tactic still relies on relentlessly targeting the body/head.

Neil Wagner: From workhorse to thoroughbred

Would be good if the WBs could have a centre like Dylan Riley – ie someone who does more than run crashball and sets up players around him.

Going forward the WBs also need to find some playmakers in the midfield. After Samu Kerevi was injured there has been a succession of crash ball runners who are not into passing. Good example is Thursday’s game where all the play came form the halves and outside backs.

How do you solve a problem like the Wallabies?

Overall great game by the WBs but what the * was happening with their lineouts?

England favourites next week? In the game i watched they got momentum and 19 points in the first 20 minutes on the back of a heap of penalties. After that the WBs were by far the better team and only fell short of winning because of lack of precision at set pieces towards the end. Unless there is a lopsided penalty count the WBs should win next up.

ANALYSIS: 'Bristling, upbeat and on message' England's back-to-basics campaign brings dividends in Brisbane

The main reason i have stopped watching rugby is abysmal situation with scrums. Most srums are not successfully set and are either reset or penalised. This is an untenable situation with a basic set piece of the game and ruins the whole flow of the game.

This is mainly happening because each side is not trying to set the scrum – they are trying to collapse it to win a penalty. This seems a pointless excercise in itself as the prnalties handed out are largely random.

Other collapsed scrums are not because a team is cheating but because they not as strong.

The simple answer is get rid of full scrum penalties and just have short arms. That will at least get rid of the incentive to cheat.

Just a terrible advertisement for the game of rugby around really. Big contrast with the first game where Ireland at least went out with the intent and ability to play rugby. Surely a game where penalties are being handed out every couple of minutes does not have much of a future?

MATCH REPORT: Brave but bumbling, the Wallabies fall to Eddie for eighth straight time

Its a sad indictment on the game that players with multiple concussions get forced out of the game by bowlers targeting their head. Are we not learning anything from what is becoming increasingly apparent about the long term effects of head injuries in sport? Any bowling above the shoulder should be no balled.

'A setback': Rogers delivers Pucovski Ashes forecast after ruling him out of next Shield game

Quade is a far better pivot with the option of a crash ball runner at 12. Keeps them guessing on when he will throw the wide ball. Apart from Kerevi are there no other options?

MATCH REPORT: Wallabies secure fifth straight win in hard-fought contest with Japan

Exciting finish but 5 penalties in the last 5 minutes show what is wrong with the game. Despite both sides trying their best not to infringe the ref put everything under a microscope to find infringements – and still got some wrong like when Mckenzie got stripped but still got the penalty. This is why the game will continue to struggle to spread beyond enthusiast countries/fans who even then can only vaguely follow what is going on and find a random penalty fest entertaining.

MATCH REPORT: Springboks edge All Blacks in one of the GREATEST Tests

Thanks for explaining the cheating techniques in a scrum which have been a mystery to me as a back. All just goes to reinforce my view that the best way to stop this rubbish is to short arm all scrum infringements.

Coach’s Corner Issue 26: Is Dave Rennie thinking outside the 'Boks?

The breaks in play were more than an issue they were driving me mental. That sort of pedantic referring is the reason why the Boks are world champions despite the fact their whole game is centred around milking penalties – especially at scrum time – and then kicking goals or driving mauls. It is killing the game. First thing to do to fix it is make all scrum penalties short arm – then you will see that pro players do actually know how to set a scrum.
