No wonder Bailey gave up the T20 caper. I doubt there’d have been any trouble with these guys playing in the current Shield games and still fronting up for the T20 on Wednesday night. But yes, team spirit and the like. For the 3 game, utterly meaningless T20 series against South Africa. Yep.

Aussies want to get ball rolling in T20

Maybe a bit excessive but there is no doubt that there were 60,000+ rather disappointed fans at the MCG on Friday night. Smashed the Poms which is always great and The Bear did well again, but everyone there would have preferred to see B. Hodge batting over G. Bailey. Bailey has come out since and said he wants Hodge there for the World Cup and in a finishing role, so it makes sense that he bat at 5 in that case.

I blame the toss, would definitely rather have batted first and seen everyone have a swing. Regardless, getting to see Hodge back on the MCG (presumably) one last time in Australian colours was brilliant in itself.

Blind Bailey buggers up Brad Hodge’s comeback

There were occasional head high bouncers but most were aimed at the body. Clarke quite often had combinations of short leg, leg slip and leg gully in place and two men out for the hook. I suppose you might call it leg theory then?

Do you also have a problem with the way Broad was bowling to Clarke?

England crumble as Australia seize Ashes momentum

Left or right one?

ASHES: Forget Johnson, Hilfenhaus must play

So did Warne.

My Australian team for the Gabba

Quite true about Smith, you wouldn’t have picked him as being a solid number 5 last summer. Let’s hope Bailey makes a few in the Shield this week to keep his confidence up because there’s not a lot of other options out there right now.

Then again another good knock by Doolan this week could also make a difference…

Bailey unfazed by Chappelli criticism

He out bowled Ahmed by bowling better, in the second innings anyway. He didn’t get to bowl in the first where Ahmed got 6.

Who comes in for Watson if he misses Brisbane?

No, he was bowling well. I suppose I should have pointed out which one of your uninformed comments I was replying to.

Who comes in for Watson if he misses Brisbane?

Yep. I didn’t see Bailey making 209!

Once again though the key problem is not with the players, it’s with the scheduling. How can you not pick someone on 1st class form only when they’re not allowed to play it?

Forget Chappelli, George Bailey must be selected

Probably a bloke trying to avoid skin cancer.

Forget Chappelli, George Bailey must be selected

The one where Shane Watson is a number 3.

Who comes in for Watson if he misses Brisbane?

I’m guessing you weren’t at the MCG on Saturday James?

Who comes in for Watson if he misses Brisbane?

Yes, of course that’s my point. And I have such a history of being a massive BBL fan too.

Time for a remodelling of domestic cricket

No, but they probably also have a gate taking to pay for it.

Time for a remodelling of domestic cricket

Yeah, W.A. will love flying to N.Z.

Time for a remodelling of domestic cricket

+1. Give him a run like Waugh got. Who knows, he may even land a full over on the pitch within 4 years.

Steve Smith is the pick of the young Aussie batsmen

White, Quiney and McGain aren’t terrible cricketers. That is all.

Steve Smith is the pick of the young Aussie batsmen

I wouldn’t be putting Rogers in the same category. Funnily enough, he’s actually been picked on recent form and performances.

We must stick steady with steady Eddy

Or perhaps now that he’s been moved to 3 he should talk to the media for months about how he much prefers opening, agitate within the team, have a falling out with the captain and the coach and wait until he gets moved back to the opening position for some insane reason, only to keep getting out in the same way he always has?

If only he could bowl hey?

So long Ed Cowan and thanks for the memories

Farking oath.

How to increase our chances of winning the Ashes

Indeed.

Buck stops with the chairman of selectors

Outside of Mr Lord you mean?

Buck stops with the chairman of selectors

I’m just reading Malcolm Knox’s book Bradman’s War. If that’s anything to go by then the idea that Bradman was some sort of unflawed genius is a bit of a fantasy. Bradman’s lack of communication skills are already well documented. And of course the same can be said for all of them. Oh it was better in my day, we never had any selection controversies back then. Of course we did! Who could possibly say that some of the selections of the mid 1980s were not desperate and confused?

I’d say one of the key differences now is that they’re so often in the media talking about it. Both Invers and Arthur are constantly contradicting themselves and making themselves look like they have no idea at all. Of course their selections are already doing pretty good job of that without them opening their mouths.

Buck stops with the chairman of selectors

Well he’s hardly going to come out and talk about how terrible he was at his job is he?? A little contrition would be nice though, perhaps he could even admit that by talking about Rogers and Voges in the same breath, despite talking about them playing in England, they possibly didn’t pick the best available XI in India.

CA's contract list and Inverarity's comments an eye to the Ashes

This seems kind of ridiculous and also part of the reason we’ve ended up where we have. Once again, the Argus report suggested rewarding players on performance and once gain someone like Maxwell gets a contract.

Do we even need national contracts? Why not leave the contracts at State (and BBL) level? CA can pay match payments for any national appearance and compensate the State or maybe even subsidise all State contracts. Okay, I obviously haven’t though this through and it would probably introduce issues for Clarke or someone like Siddle who is always picked, but much like the contract upgrade perhaps bonuses could be paid a bonus for playing X number of games. Either way, it definitely puts the onus back on a player like Maxwell to perform! Fringe players wouldn’t then have the automatic expectation of being part of the squad without having to earn it.

Sorry, just some off the cuff frustration at what seems to be the same slightly illogical guff coming from the NSP.
