Manu Samoa squad to tour South Africa for June Tests

Thank you nick.. Its good to see a variety of rugby nations news on here to showcase the national outreach of the sport (compared to AFL and NRL) Should definately use this to Rugby’s advantage. It would gain more popularity in the long haul.

Wing and Full Back why do you ask Sailosi?

Good to meet you uso. What’s your name? And good to see another Samoan in the forums commenting in a responsible and orderly manner lol Europe has definitely contributed to the way Samoa has played, Samoa have always had the balance back line flair and defence, but always had forwards who wanted to play as backs but never really stuck into the nitty gritty stuff as you term it the “dark arts” It definitely is a “dark art” only reason why Tonga and Samoa are starting to strive and Fiji are lagging behind.. You know what they say, backs are useless if you don’t have the ball.. Samoa beating SA would be glorious I would drink all weekend lol.. But Samoa beating the ABs? No one can even set a match with them within the next 8-10 years apparently? They say their international schedule is “full”? Yeah full of “sh*t” lol..

Bob Wandstraat I thought you would never bring that one up.. Prime Minister Tuilaepa Aiono Sailele Malielegaoi is very shifty. I don’t like him at all, corruption in Samoa is at an all time high. I remember when Schwalger came out with the story of the missing millions and management binge drinking in hotels. Eliota Fuimaono Sapolu and Mahonri Schwalger addressed the issues which needed to be fixed, now that they have, they have been left in the shadows. A darn shame.

Jack Lam is a worthy replacement for Fa’asavalu at 7 (not the same) but he’s still Super Rugby standard.. If the SRU would get over themselves and select Chiefs and former Manu Samoa captain Mahonri Schwalger it would be a perfect time to return to fill in the huge void left, if Ole Avei and Ti’i Paulo do not return in time.. Census (not so little brother) James is pretty much a clone of Census probably even better in the scrummaging department.. The only REAL big loss to me is Kahn Fotuali’i, he is pretty much the glue which held the team together in every single aspect of the game. Jeremy Sua will be my pick to start although not near the same impact imo I think this is a chance for players to really come out and show some internal competition within the squad for the upcoming Rugby World Cup 2015.

And George Pisi **

Yes. I’ve just found out that Ti’i Paulo and Census Johnston will be playing finals footy. If their respective teams do not make the finals they’ll join with the squad later on. And Maurie Fa’asavalu and Kahn Fotuali’i will be touring with the Barbarians squad playing against England on the 25th of May and the British and Irish Lions on the 1st of June, but will be available for the remaining games. Good news is that Junior Poluleuligaga (Exeter Chiefs – England) and Seilala Mapusua (Kubota Spears – Japan) have been called in as replacements. And Mania are you samoan?? And definately agree with you as I said to biltongbek.. The South Africans who hate Samoa are only hating because they’ve finally got a taste of their own medicine.. I respect South Africa’s play of brutal physicality cause it’s how Samoa likes to play as well..

I think South Africa and Samoa are very alike in their explosive physicality.. As well as their religious nature, that’s the only reason why Samoa and South Africa respect each other so much because of their similarities.. They smash and beat each other up but after the 80 is over they can hug and shake hands like nothing happened.. And biltongbek.. Meyer is a mysterious man why does the SARU persist with someone who does not bring the best out of South African Rugby with dangerous players like Juan De Jongh, Gio Aplon, JP pieterson, Francois Hougarrd, Gerhard Van Heever, Bryan Habana and the whole cheetahs backline. Thoughts?

Yes Will they are not playing in the Pacific Nations Cup this year as they have been promoted to this new quadrangular tournament courtesy of their recent competitive results and the IRB million dollar funding.

Thanks Johnno for the welcome mate.. I have followed the rugby articles on here for quite some time and read a lot of great minds and opinions on rugby such as yourself.. Not only am i passionate about Australian and Samoan rugby but I am also passionate about International Rugby as a whole. (I guess that makes two of us)

Definitely agree with how the tournament format has been set.. South Africa has just set the tournament up to be as competitive, fair and internationally exclusive but also and most importantly for SARU, financially profitable..

Alapati Leiua is a good gain for the Manu Samoa and I’m glad he made that career decision as I don’t think he would have played many tests for the All Blacks.. One example is Lelia Masaga.. Who was the best winger in Super Rugby at one stage but still only remains with one cap?? But with Samoa who knows he probably would have almost 20 caps by the time the next World Cup comes and a guaranteed place in the squad. (Take nothing away from Lelia who should and would still be proud of that All Black jersey and keep chasing that dream)

Eligibility is a controversial topic and it’s one that will continue to intensify in the coming years, Was going to write an article about it but I thought I’d start simple lol

In all fairness and reality, even with their last previous result being agonizingly close. Samoa’s chances against SA (Even against Italy and Scotland) are very very slim, as Tier One nations are never putting out their 2nd string teams (After Wallabies loss) for the simple fact that Samoa are no longer push overs and stand as competitive force in International Rugby. Scotland and Italy would be lucky to have a head start having played Internationals recently so South Africa and Samoa are the ones playing catch up.
