Nick Bishop has worked as a rugby analyst and advisor to Graham Henry (1999-2003), Mike Ruddock (2004-2005) and most recently Stuart Lancaster (2011-2015). He also worked on the 2001 British & Irish Lions tour to Australia and produced his first rugby book with Graham Henry at the end of the tour. Three more rugby books have followed, all of which of have either been nominated for or won national sports book awards. Nick’s latest is a biography of Phil Larder, the first top Rugby League coach to successfully transfer over to Union, entitled “The Iron Curtain”. He is currently writing articles for The Roar and The Rugby Site, and working as a strategy consultant to Stuart Lancaster and the Leinster coaching staff for their European and Pro 14 playoff matches. Leinster achieved the double of European Champions Cup and Pro 14 league winners in 2018. They repeated their Pro 14 win in 2019 and finished runners-up to Saracens in Europe.

It’s not new CJ, and it’s often the knee-jerk of new League coaches at this level. Kevin Sinfield had a couple of top on-ballers at Leicester in Tommy Reffell and Julian Montoya and that might be why Jack Willis got the nod. But mostly League coaches prefer to keep the line intact if they have a choice between ruck and line.

He did start picking Courtney Lawes there when previously he’d been seen mostly at lock.

‘Rhodda’ – not one step away from a Welsh valley area, surely 😂
Always find myself wondering why you omit Michael Hooper when he’s so close to McReight in terms of attributes?

Yes I think you’re digging towards the essential diff towards the end there Miz. Ryan is really more of a 6 than a 4, Frost the other way around. Despite the listed weights, NF also looks a lot bigger in the torso. So while I full expect RB to be developed through the back row, I’m not so sure about NF… It might depend on the players around him where he plays!?

All I can say about the Grotto is – DON’T Tom!
Seems like it’s going to be fairly straightforward, then you just hit this 30-40m, uphill wall with no footholds. Keep sliding down as you reach top, then another 2 miles to go with your head spinning 😂

It was good to see Liam Wright back in harness again wasn’t it? I’ve always rated the guy as a 6 and half, as regulars will know. He can add lineout at 6’4 and has that hard nose in the tight work too.

Not as a lineout caller it wouldn’t though C, and he is a long way off that status as yet.

Gleeson + Bobby V would struggle to make it work unless you had two outstanding lineout players in the row, and even then it would be suspect.

Yes lineout calling is very often an underestimated skill Peter. But no longer does the call simply go to front, middle or back with one of the second rows calling a flat throw or a lob! Those days very long gone. More like an NFL playbook now.

Yes if they get the ball they want they are a handful for sure, but BB, RTS and Rieko not the sort to thrive if they don’t.
