Definitely need to re-watch the Derby to fully appreciate the boys’ valiant efforts… Was both over-excited about the lead, and nervous as hell we’d let it slip, again.

Six talking points from AFL Round 7

Admire your unfailing enthusiasm for the team… but Hurn, Barrass, and McGovern all out for 2-3 more weeks. 😢

Don’t mind this though, given how well Edwards went yesterday – not perfect, but good efforts. Has a lot of potential, the kid. Need to get games into him, and this is the right opportunity.

Cameron went ok in the WAFL yesterday, would love to see him back into the side in place of Langdon. Otherwise, there isn’t really a position for him, as Jamaine Jones and Petrucelle won’t be dropped.

Clarkson loves to conspire against us, and Crows have been playing an exciting brand. Don’t think we have those wins in the bag, although confidence in the team is a lot higher than prior to the Derby. Should win.

Six talking points from AFL Round 7

Have you seen our outs?

Must (should) win game for Freo.

I’m half dreading watching it, and also rather curious how we go about working with what we have….

As long as we’re competitive, that’s the main thing.

Let the wine flow.

Crowds barred for Western Derby after COVID-19 scare

Did I just hear fox footy say no crowds = 1M $$$ loss to West Coast. 😱

Wow. Our season going from bad to worse by the minute, with a very likely loss to Freo coming up for the cherry on top.

Hang in there boys.

Crowds barred for Western Derby after COVID-19 scare

😂

Crowds barred for Western Derby after COVID-19 scare

No Barrass, no Hurn, no Gov. We are doomed. I’m equally intrigued/scared to see how we go about it today.
The thought of being thrashed by Freo a very very very real possibility. Yikes.

Duggan better play back. We need him there.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 7

NTFL is fantastic to watch.

The "damned spot" on the Port Adelaide prison bar guernsey

Oh my goodness, now Barrass in doubt.

May have to change tip if he doesn’t play.

Freo’s Derby to lose.

How Fremantle have made the Western Derby relevant once again

Nah. During the last game, perhaps it upset mentality and structure, as he was in the game-plan. However, won’t be the case this week.

Barrass currently greater than McGovern.
If we lose Barrass, the backline is RIP.
Plus Barrass always plays better without Gov.

But yeah, I’d be tipping freo too, as a neutral.

Hopefully we’re in for a great match!

How Fremantle have made the Western Derby relevant once again

Currently on 37 (West Coast loyalty smh)
– Doggies
– Suns
– Crows
– Hawks
– Swans
– Lions
– Dees
– Bombers (what am I thinking?!??)
– Eagles (against many odds, plus potentially Hurn and JK back… Come on boys!)

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 7

We also faded against Suns and Port. We were lucky with the Suns, as their comeback was in full swing, and with extra time, would’ve toppled us.

Agree on Simmo coming across as too soft. Love the guy but has he lost the players?

Since the 2018 GF, we seemingly cannot play 4 quarters + injuries to the top half of our best 22, and now it’s almost curtains. Quite worrisome.

Six talking points from AFL Round 6

Loss to Cats I can excuse somewhat – though wish we had lost with some dignity.
We went in with a defeatist attitude and it showed. Saw an interesting comment elsewhere that the WA lockdown announcement the evening before may have got to them… Worried about being able to get back, quarantine, etc. Wouldn’t be the first time an unexpected announcement has derailed this team.

However, the Saints loss, far far far worse, totally inexcusable.

Six talking points from AFL Round 6

Not writing us off, but hard to come out hard without the cattle. Strike while the iron’s hot, Freo. May be a one-off. 😛

Six talking points from AFL Round 6

– Rioli won’t be back till round 22/23 if fit… so not going to help us for now, or potentially even this season…
– Ryan out for 6-8 weeks – probably 8
– Yeo – unlikely to return this season (read between the lines of Vozzo’s tip-toeing pressers)

Midfielders and small forwards will become a real issue very soon – in 2 years or less. Especially Midfielders. Hopefully we can attract an established midfielder? Oh wait, we have no currency or salary cap- unless we move on JK/Hurn etc..

Aging AA*-LIST Stars:
– Darling – 29 in June
– Gov – recently 29
– Shep – 30 in May
– Shuey – 31 in June
– Nic Nat – 31 in May
– JK – 34 in August
– Hurn – 34 in Sept

Aging good players
– Gaff – 29 in June
– Cripps – recently 29
– Redden – recently 30

Middle aged stars
– TK – 27 in Jul (still needs to prove himself in this midfield – has been unlucky with a chunk of them out)
– Barrass – 26 in Oct
– Sheed – recently 26 (deceptively slow but very good)

AA* coming through (luckily)
– Allen – recently 22 (thank goodness for Oscar Allen!!!!)
– Ryan – 25 in Oct
– Rioli – 26 in June
– Duggan – 25 in Dec

Potentially good coming through:
– Brander – just turned 22
– Cameron – 21 in May ( probably trade-bait – that we will regret when he finds form elsewhere)
– Witherden – 23 in Sept
– Waterman – 23 in May
– Petrucelle – recently 22 (50:50 on this guy has a long way to go…)
– XON – 21 in Aug
– Honourable mention to Brayden Ainsworth – 22 in Nov – has a good tank and could become a very effective tagger, with the right development. (Our other previously very effective tagger Mark Hutchings – 30 in May and very out of form through injury)

Six talking points from AFL Round 6

If I were a neutral, would be tipping Freo this weekend.
Things looking pretty dire for us in the short-term. (And also near future, when you consider the age of our list, and the level of quality facing imminent retirement, with not may banging down the door to replace them).

Lean times ahead.

Six talking points from AFL Round 6

😱 😱 😱
Bad enough they can’t tell Brander and Rotham apart, but now poor Josh can’t even get his name spelled right in the be all and end all of footy rankings…. Poor wee soul. 😢

AFL Round 5 power rankings

On loop, as it should be played .

"I have no desperation in me": Buckley still uncommitted on Collingwood future

1st year Cameron was very good. OP derailed him. But if he can recapture that 2019 form, solves our small forward stock issues. (Hoping OP doesn’t do the same to Yeo).

Cripps just isn’t the same these days. Although he still does a lot of good things around the ground and we need him (no replacement for him), just seems to have lost his goal sense.

Five talking points from the AFL Round 5

Blasphemy to forget Hurn. Especially on his AA form so far this year.

Five talking points from the AFL Round 5

Sorry to sound one-eyed, but wouldn’t rule out the Eagles just yet. We are playing a fairly depleted team ATM.

We are missing (and likely to regain mid-end season):
– Liam Ryan
– Luke Shuey
– Jarrod Cameron
– Eliott Yeo ** (maybe)
– Willie Rioli**** (double maybe)

Add any in-form 3 of those 5 listed above and we’re genuine contenders. Just need to hold on and bank as many wins as possible till the cavalry arrives.

Our only bad game so far has been against Saints – when we inexcusably fell asleep at the wheel. Red hot Doggies beat us by 7 points, at Marvel.

Will be very curious to see how we go in Geelong, especially with J Cameron back. Will give us a better indication of where we are, given both teams are evenly matched currently – i.e. old, depleted.

Five talking points from the AFL Round 5

Bona fide superstar. Just wait till round 23….. 😛

The Pies were lost at sea against West Coast

Brisbane are most definitely in the top 8. Fantastic side. (if only they could kick straight). IMO the remaining spot is a toss-up between Sydney, Adelaide, St Kilda.

The Pies were lost at sea against West Coast

And no Liam Ryan for 2 months. 😢

The Pies were lost at sea against West Coast

Hate to say, but in the last 2 years, I trust Brarass way more than Guv. (Less injury prone too).

Your club's underrated performer: Round 4

We love Barass. Absolutely critical to Eagles going anywhere.

Midfield void will be/ is our greatest challenge. Somehow feels like turning Duggan into a midfielder is going too slow… not really slow, just that bad timing for him to learn with our with 2 best mids out, and we don’t really have an option…
especially when he’s a premiership defender.

No easy answers for Eagles. We have lots of elite talent, and also massive gaps.
