Eagles will need to play harder than against Bulldogs.
Go the Eagles!

Eagles can't be complacent with struggling Saints

Thank you for resurrecting this column Chucka! …where are the colourful team banners? (See Liam’s old columns for reference) 😛

I hope when you say … It’s not just because they have played what is the best game of the season… you mean the Doggies v Eagles game?

AFL Round 3 power rankings

No Shuey and no Yeo is just so so cruel. Brander should stay, and replace Petch with literally anyone. Ainsworth would be better.

Saints getting Marshall back. He’s an excellent ruck and handy for goals. Hate this timing, but at least Ryder not ready = small win for Eagles.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 4

– Nervous about all these West Coast Tips. St Kilda will be out to redeem themselves, especially after the media beat-up. Hope we can get it done.
– Glad I’m not the only one tipping Lions.
– Pies (but not convinced GWS will roll over. know they’re cooked and depleted, but an against-all-odds upset wouldn’t surprise)
– Freo (again, likely upset. Hawks go ok at Optus) – May re-think this one closer to the time, after team selection

Nah, was definitely deliberate, regardless of the opposition. Rude, but just harmless gloating, IMO.

I think use of the word “belittling” is a stretch from Derm, but I get his point.

Just don’t understand why he has to be “shamed” publicly. A quiet word would do.

Dermott Brereton blasts Dogs young gun for trying to 'humiliate' opponents

Agreed, rude and very noticeable what he did to Shep.

However, a bit harsh to call him out publicly. Radio and newspaper articles? Seriously?Couldn’t they just let the club/coach say something privately to him?

It’s Baz. Give him time to grow, as comes across as a fairly decent kid.

Exactly what I’m dreading. Poor Eagles.

Nick Riewoldt joins list of critics to bag the Saints after woeful effort against Bombers

You’re right, although Brander has yet to prove himself (though showed good signs last weekend).

Waterman (when fit) would probably be the one at risk of being curtailed. Hope we get him back soon – we’re stronger with Waterman in – handy for goals and can help down back if required.

Seven talking points from Round 3 in the AFL

Actually I tipped us. (Only because game was at Optus, and Port can choose not to show up, occasionally. So yes, it was unexpected to many (we weren’t even favourites in betting odds), but I can’t say I was surprised we won).

Wouldn’t tip us against them at AO, at this stage of the season.

Lobb … he just hasn’t been quite right since arriving from GWS. Mostly rotten luck on his part.

With JK close to retiring, still amazed Eagles wouldn’t pick him up as a forward when he offered us that opportunity.

Do … do we dare dream of Power rankings?

Not really pessimism, Freo young kids are going alright. They’re not going to challenge for the flag any time soon, but they’re going ok enough to not be automatic easybeats.

Obviously hope we get it done (and we should), but it’s not a foregone conclusion.

Last rites? Far from it, in fact. This type of game just gives Richmond more ammo, going by the last few years.
Next step in your premiership winning formula is a hoard of injuries to key players, who miss a chunk of games in early-mid season rounds, and then are all fit when it matters towards the end/at the end.

Nevertheless, cannot wait for Tigers v Port. Tipping Port, but should be a fantastic tussle.

Seven talking points from Round 3 in the AFL

IMO, the Western Derby will be much much closer. Freo’s young kids (+ Mundy + Fyfe) go alright on a good day, especially at Optus. Should be a great game, and I anticipate an upset – especially if Freo get some of their backline talls back.

Danger game for Eagles. Hopefully we’ve banked more unexpected wins by then for it not to be too pressurised.

David Noble adamant improvement will come for North Melbourne

I couldn’t be a Lions supporter today and just “live with it”. To have 4 points stolen at the death… that one hurts.

Imagine if they miss out on the 8 based on percentage??. Repercussions of this could be huge.

COVID throws AFL clash into chaos

– Adelaide for the upset.
– Carlton too, but not brave enough to tip against Richmond.

Suns, please don’t upset us!

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 1

Agree he got off lightly… But most likely due to the embarrassing length of time leaving him in limbo. No one deserves to be treated that way, guilty or not.

AFL reaches final decision on Willie Rioli

Early Christmas present really. Cannot wait to see you back Willie!!!

Excellent! Hope the Lions can get it done.

Daniher nominates Brisbane as new club for 2021

I think Cole is best 22, and Nelson has taken a massive leap this year heading towards best 22 in 2021 or 2022.

Ah Chee… will never be best 22, which is a bit sad because he does try hard.

Petrucelle may surprise us yet… when? But if Cripps wants to come home, he should be involved. (Not that we can afford Cripps, but can try).

Kane Farrell’s long kick though… stunning.

That’s about it.

Throw in Josh Bruce and it’s done. 😛

Where to next for the Eagles and Dogs after failed 2020 campaigns?

Ah Chee needs to go… but who would take him? Can’t see any offers. He probably gets another year based on this year’s contribution. Maybe he’ll surprise us with positive development next year? He turns 28 next year, so not expecting any drastic improvements in his game.

– Petch has time – worth another year to develop/prove himself.

– Brander is the type that has shown us bits of good flashes, but not enough to be convincing. Still feel like trading him would come back to bite us, even if he’s not contributing all that much right now. He is/should be possibly the greatest dilemma on the list.

– Hope we don’t lose Jetta. Apparently out of favour, but when fit automatically best 22, and we should get another 1-2 years out of him.

– Reid would be on peanuts, so can stay. Especially as he’s shown more promise than Brayshaw (who needs to go).

– Foley started slowly, but had one or two good kicks in 2nd half. Need to see more.
